Mark Vargas: Is a decision on Afghanistan above President Obama’s pay-grade?

The President said that his decision on Afghanistan could take weeks. Mark Vargas, candidate for the 14th District Congressional seat, recently asked the President to make the decision based facts and the observations of commanders on the ground, not politics. Instead of bending to the whims of special interest groups, the President needs to honor his promise to win the war in Afghanistan or bring our troops home. The year of 2009 has already been the bloodiest year of the Afghanistan operation.
“The President is playing a game with our soldier’s lives.” Mark Vargas noted to supporters. While the President is procrastinating in Washington, the job market in towns like Dixon, Aurora, Elgin, and Sycamore is getting worse. Rep. Foster and the Democrat agenda of hidden taxation, regulation, and nationalizing companies are hurting American’s here and abroad.
Mark Vargas proposes to put pressure on the President and House leadership to follow the advice of General McCrystal concerning Afghanistan. Vargas also calls for Rep. Foster focus on lowering unemployment here in the 14th. “Jobs will be my number 1 priority as your Congressman.” Mark Vargas plans on launching a Jobs Task Force when elected.

Rasmussen Shows Dems Down in Illinois

A recent Rasmussen poll shows that incumbent accidental Governor Democrat Pat Quinn is not doing so well with Illinois voters. It also shows that Illinois voters favor a generic Republican over a generic Democrat.
Former Lieutenant Governor Pat Quinn, who succeeded to the state’s top office following Blagojevich’s impeachment, is expected to seek a full term as governor next year. Forty-five percent (45%) of Illinois voters approve of the job Quinn has been doing in his short time in office, but 53% disapprove, including 25% who strongly disapprove. In August [LINK], 47% approved of Quinn’s job performance while 49% somewhat or strongly disapproved.
Just 16% of Illinois voters share a very favorable opinion of their governor, while 18% view Quinn very unfavorably. Those numbers are a slight improvement from August, when only 11% viewed Quinn very favorably and 20% shared a very unfavorable opinion.

IL Rep. Mike Quigley is Faking Reform
CHICAGO – October 23, 2009 – Republican challenger for U.S. Congress in Illinois District 5 David Ratowitz released the following statement today with regard to the Countrywide Financial scandal currently under investigation in Congress:
“Once again Mike Quigley fakes a stand on reform. As a member of the House of Representatives, Quigley’s statement on an internal Senate investigation has no force or relevance. Quigley’s refusal to weigh in on similar investigations of House members, such as Charlie Rangel (D-NY), where his voice would make a difference, is a stark demonstration of Mike Quigley’s insincerity when it comes to good government.”
Attorney, Army veteran and conservative activist DAVID RATOWITZ is running for U.S. Congress (IL-5) in February’s Republican primary on a platform of limited government, fiscal discipline and accountability, and individual liberty. Learn more about his campaign at www.ratowitzforcongress.com.

Looks like candidate Patrick Hughes has made a big UhOh when he claimed that former Chicago Bears coach Mike Ditka endorsed him at a fund raiser last month. Hughes put out a press release touting the purported endorsement and featured the announcement on his website, too. In fact, Hughes even claimed that Ditka was ready to serve on the Hughes for Senate finance committee.
As it turns out, Ditka’s office is denying that da coach agreed to serve on any finance committee nor that he even officially endorsed Hughes. A blog called Team America’s 10th District Blog does a good job assembling all the disparate sources and claims of the story.

Don’t Shut Us Out of Healthcare Mr. President

Once again, Obama lies. He castigated Clinton’s attempts to get Hillarycare by saying that she tried to get her healthcare policies passed behind closed doors. He claimed he’d open the debate before the public and get it out from behind those closed doors. Yet, now Obamacare is being created behind the closed doors of the Senate and the House of Representatives.
So, what happened to Obama’s now hoary promise that he’d have a transparent, open government? It’s gone the way of most of his other promises: down the memory hole.
House Speaker Lacks Democrat Votes for ‘Public Option’

Despite assurances to the contrary, Politico.com is reporting that Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D, Calif.) does not have the votes to include the so-called public option in the House version of Obamacare making it more likely that a “trigger” will be included instead.
Politico also reports that Obama himself announced support for the trigger option.
Obama told Senate Democratic leadership at the White House Thursday evening that his preference is for the trigger championed by Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) — a plan that would allow a public plan to kick in if private insurers don’t expand coverage fast enough, a top administration official told POLITICO. It’s also sign Obama is interested in maintaining a sense of bipartisanship around the health reform plan.
Regardless of the Politco report, however, Speaker Pelosi came out today in a press conference and insisted that the public option will, indeed, be in the bill.
Whatever the final outcome will be, however, this shows that Speaker Pelosi is having trouble manhandling her caucus. This also means that voters still have a chance to affect this vote by calling their representatives and urging them to oppose the public option.

Where I call a Bible Thumper a Moron

I believe that Christianity is the single best influence on mankind. It is responsible for Western civilization’s flourishing, it is responsible for the heights of freedom and liberty that untold billions of humans have enjoyed and will enjoy in the future. Certainly the bedrock of that success is the Christian Bible.
So, don’t go calling me a religion hater or a Christian basher. There. That is said.
Now, the story is that a “pastor” in North Carolina is having a book burning event for his fool followers and one of the books he is burning is any copy of the Bible that isn’t the King James version. Why burn any version of the Bible that isn’t a King James version? Why, donthca know it’s because the King James version is the only real Bible, the only one that God ordained… at least according to this ill-educated hick it is, anyway.
All the other editions of the Bible are heretical as far as Marc Grizzard is concerned. All the other editions are “satanic” and are “perversions” of God’s word, says this towering ignoramus.

A Slimy ‘Man,’ a Slimy Network

Last week, on air, Keith Olbermann (a leading personality, if there is such a thing on his network), described columnist Michelle Malkin as “a mashed up bag of meat with lipstick.” Before I discuss all the things wrong with this comment, the “man” who made it, his network, and its corporate owners, here are my prejudices in the matter.
First, I know and respect the journalistic abilities of Michelle Malkin. I was present in D.C. in February when she received an award for her work. On the other hand, I agree with the hundreds of millions of Americans who indicate their opinion of Olbermann’s show on MSNBC by tuning to other channels, any channels.
Olbermann’s previous job, before he got promoted per the Peter Principle, was as a sports reporter. To use a sports analogy, when he appears the stands are packed with people, disguised as empty seats. In short, I respect Malkin; I do not respect Olbermann.
That said, here’s what’s wrong about his false and grossly insulting attack on her: There is a nasty tendency in politics which applies mostly to women. People who oppose political opinions or factual statements made by women in a position to be heard, will often resort to ad hominem attacks. They will go on at length about how ugly the woman is, in various ways. If they are being really sleazy, they will attack the women for her presumed sexual habits.

Project Vote: A twisted branch of the ACORN tree

A strange anomaly occurs whenever the phrase “voter registration fraud” is searched. Who’s responsible for that? Perhaps the players? Search the Internet and you will find dozens of stories on the Association of Community Organizations For Reform Now or ACORN on a never ending stream of Google results. However, Project Vote (Voting for America) is often only listed as an affiliate. Articles posted by the mainstream media tend to downplay Project Vote’s role or is it something else?
In the fall of 2005 I answered an ad posted on Idealist.org similar to the one provided by the Capital Research Center below. It was the beginning of my journey with ACORN. Throughout the interview process I never heard the words Project Vote, only ACORN. The goal was to make sure that I was ideologically aligned with the principles -and I use that term loosely – of ACORN.

When I came to Washington, D.C. to start working for ACORN, it quickly became evident to me that Project Vote did not have a lot of employees and was a part of ACORN. Often we employees wore many hats and worked weekends and late nights with the sense that we were doing it for the “movement.”

Roll Call is reporting that the $250 billion extension to the Medicare physician payment program was defeated in the Senate today. Reid couldn’t even get a simple majority losing in a 47 to 53 vote.
Naturally Democrat Majority Leader Harry Reid (Nev) blames the Republicans. Reid complained that the loss was a result of “activities and actions by the Republican-dominated Washington.” Seriously. A “Republican dominated Washington”? Did Harry Reid miss the fact that the Democrats have majorities in both the House and the Senate as well as holding the White House? How could Washington be “Republican dominated” when the GOP has little capability to affect the debate through the power of majority control?
Roll Call pinpoints the most salient question here, though. If Reid can’t even get this one through with a Democrat majority how is he going to get the rest of Obamacare passed? The GOP, for its part, was ecstatic.

New York’s Dede Scozzafava MUST Withdraw

In July liberal Republican DeDe Scozzafava was tapped by the 11 Republican county chairmen of New York’s 23rd Congressional District to run for the seat being vacated by John McHugh, who resigned to take Obama’s offer to become Secretary of the Army.
The NY GOP made a huge mistake with this smoke-filled-room choice. Scozzafava has made a hash of this campaign and should withdraw her candidacy immediately and allow Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman to take her place.
Her lousy campaign aside, the prime reason we want to Dump Dede is because she doesn’t seem to be much of a Republican in a District that could elect a Republican candidate (and traditionally has). Scozzafava has all the wrong positions for a Republican. She is an abortion supporter, supports same-sex marriage and her hubby is a bigtime union leader. Even worse, groups associated with the criminal, left-wing organization ACORN have endorsed her candidacy — not the sort of company a Republican should keep.
Her primary opponent is New York Conservative Party Candidate Doug Hoffman who is most certainly far more like a Republican than Dede. Hoffman has picked up the support of several high profile Republicans such as former GOP Sen. Fred Thompson, Campaign for Working Families founder Gary Bauer, and the Washington D.C. based Club for Growth. It also looks like Former Congressman Dick Armey is coming out for Hoffman, too.
Hoffman is a small government supporter he is against raising taxes and opposes both the stimulus and Obamacare. Hoffman’s message suits the mood of a tea party going nation that is sick of insider politics and big spending liberals.
As I mentioned, Scozzafava is proving an inept candidate. One of the absurd incidents of this campaign happened this week when Dede’s Hubby called the cops on a correspondent from the conservative magazine Weekly Standard. Apparently the candidate did not appreciate writer John McCormack’s questions and decided that his efforts to get the candidate to answer them constituted “harassment.”

On Tuesday, October 20, 2009, in a teleconference for bloggers hosted by Andrew Breitbart of Breitbart TV and BigGovernment.com and ACORN whistle-blower, Anita MonCrief, the launch of Ms MonCrief’s defense fund website, Fight for Anita, (http://fightforanita.com/) was announced.
A brief description of Anita’s website, which was included in the invitation, read, “ACORN is doing everything it can to intimidate Anita and others like her from telling the public what they know about ACORN. In June 2009, Project Vote and ACORN filed a lawsuit against Anita to try to get her to stop talking. The defense fund, Fight for Anita was created to help Anita with her very expensive legal fees during this crucial battle for Anita’s First Amendment rights so that she may continue to tell her brave story.”
The Fight for Anita site is as direct and as straightforward as the lady is herself. Anita never wanted the publicity, legal persecution or notoriety of whistle blowing on ACORN, Project Vote and ultimately President Obama himself. However, her innate honesty, patriotism and the very same idealism that led her to work for ACORN in the first place, also gave her the strength and courage to reject and expose the corruption, voter fraud and thuggery she saw around her.

Sheila Weinberg, Institute for Truth in Accounting founder & CEO, joined WTTW-TV’s Chicago Tonight reporter Elizabeth Bracken on an October 15th panel to discuss the proposed 2011 $32 billion budget, which includes a possible $12 billion deficit. When asked about the exact size of Illinois budget shortfall, Ms. Weinberg stated, “There are a lot of numbers floating around. We want transparency, and they want to continue the accounting gimmicks. “One gimmick identified is when the state “borrows $2 billion and then claims it as revenues.”
Ms. Weinberg’s recommendation is for Illinois to switch from cash based to FACT based, or accrual accounting methods. “Cash based accounting worked when Illinois was each year paying for current services, but when longer-term services such as government employee pensions were added, the accounting became an absolute mess.”

- Ethan Hastert, son of former Speaker Dennis Hastert – Campaign website, FaceBook page.
- Randy Hultgren, current 48th District State rep- Campaign website, FaceBook page.

According to McClatchy news, in the Democrat’s 2006 campaign book, in the “integrity” section, the Democratic leadership vowed that legislation would be posted online for 24 hours before consideration of the final versions of any bill. That promise coupled with their president’s claims that he’d post all bills online for five whole days — that’s 120 hours in case anyone’s counting — not to mention his now hoary claim that he’d put all debates on C-Span so that we the people could keep tabs on what Congress is doing makes for a facade of a deep interest in government transparency. And facade it has turned out to be for all these promises have been completely forgotten now that Democrats have taken up the reins of power.
Obviously the campaign was “then” and having power is “now.” In the minds of Democrats, the two bear no relationship one to the other showing that campaign promises are so much wind and bombast never meant to be taken seriously. In other words, lies.
In keeping with the light speed at which Democrats are running away from transparency, we find few Congressional Dems supporting the Baird/Walden discharge petition. (I covered this issue last month, and earlier this month) This measure would institute a House rules change and require bills to be posted online for 72 hours before a floor vote.

UN “Special Rapporteur” Martin Scheinin recently filed a report with the UN titled “Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms While Countering Terrorism” in which he states that human gender is not a fixed thing but a mere “social construct” that is “changeable over time.”
In this paper Scheinin, the “Special Rapporteur” — I do get a kick out of the pretentiousness of that grandiose title — and the UN leadership (a word I use advisedly) wants terribly to deny both genetics and simple reality. Page eight of this report asserts that a man is not necessarily a man and a women… well, maybe she’s something else entirely… but what ever they are their gender is but a temporary designation determined at the whim of society.

Now right off the top, this is an idiotic attempt to use legal threats on a blog. Imagine if this proscription became a legal precedent! Imagine a movie reviewer not being able to use a movie title in an article critical of the movie. Imagine a TV news station not being able to use the name of an organization it is investigating. Obviously this is more union thuggery on display, attempting to use the threat of law to stop people from criticizing them.

The Internet as the Post Office?
by Scott Cleland
Why force the private Internet to be as inefficient as the old public post office? For the first time, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) plans to regulate how private companies can deliver the quadrillions of broadband Internet packets that are sent over the Internet every day.
Americans know from experience that private companies competing for customers deliver better service than Government. Who thinks the Government can do a better job than private companies in designing, building, and managing broadband Internet networks? Who thinks the Government can run the Internet better, faster, cheaper, and more innovatively than private networks do now?

Construction drawings released: Flight 93 crescent now points less than 3° from Mecca
From Error Theory:
The original Crescent of Embrace memorial to Flight 93 faced less than 2° from Mecca. That made it a mihrab, the Mecca-direction indicator around which every mosque is built. (Some mihrabs are pointed-arch shaped, but the classic mihrab is crescent shaped.)
The Park Service dismissed concern about the Mecca-oriented crescent on grounds that the construction drawings had not yet been finalized. “Those trees could move fifty feet, or three hundred feet,” said Project Manager Jeff Reinbold in the Spring of 2006, as if this kind of “tweaking” would make any difference (Crescent of Betrayal Ch.8 p.145-6).

U.S. Representative Judy Biggert (R, Hinsdale, IL) introduced legislation last week intended to prevent misuse of federal housing counseling funds.
“It’s abundantly clear that ACORN and its affiliates cannot be trusted as a federally certified entity,” said Biggert, a senior member of the House Financial Services Committee. “Given the group’s clear links to illegal and inappropriate activities, how can we knowingly give them federal certification to divert precious resources from legitimate housing counselors working overtime to help struggling homeowners?”
For years federal funds have flowed into ACORN’s coffers for services given to low-income home buyers across the country. These services are intended to counsel low-income buyers on how to go about the mortgage process, to inform them of subsides and government services, and to assist the purchase.

I suppose it makes it easier for Obama to claim that his healthcare policies are “revenue neutral” when the federal government just makes rules and expands healthcare services that it doesn’t fund then turns around and forces the states to pay for much of it out of groaning state budgets, but that seems like what is happening.
The Congressional Budget Office has reported that the costs of Obamacare’s mandates will fall heavily on the states . Obamacare will increase Medicaid coverage to one in five Americans, a growth from 50 million to 60 million Americans covered.
According to the CBO these unfunded mandates will cost the states an estimated $33 billion. Naturally, this estimate is likely low and costs to state budgets will be much higher in reality.

The L.A. Times published a story that was probably meant solely as a bash on insurance companies, but still the report brings up several issues that Obamacare will only make worse if passed. The problem raised in the headline, “Healthcare bills lack protections against treatment denials, experts say,” isn’t the only problem the story touches upon — not that the L.A. Times dwells on them.
The headline problem is important, of course though the Times tries to phrase the problem as an evil failing of insurance companies. The fact is it is really but a common-sense inevitability. The Times reports that Obamacare will force an increase in denials of services to patients because of cost overruns.

If CBS News has it right, the majority of in-home healthcare workers in Illinois voted not to join a union despite the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and Governor Quinn’s best efforts to force the issue.
Earlier in the year, Governor Quinn signed Executive Order 09-15 that gave away the private information of every in-home healthcare worker in the state to several unions so that they might begin a campaign to cajole these workers into joining a union by calling them on the phone and visiting them at their homes.
In-home healthcare workers receive a stipend from the state in order to help them care for developmentally disabled or medically at risk family members.

On his 10/8/09 broadcast, Albert Mohler was in a tizzy wondering why fewer young men are going into missions work than women.
Since we are going to turn this into yet another opportunity to bash men, a pastime increasingly popular in certain Evangelical circles, could it be that as the Bible seems to indicate men might be less prone to the kinds of emotional manipulation many missionaries utilize to whip people up into a frenzy.
Just because someone in the pulpit is in a froth as to why we should do something does not mean by default that we have to go out and do it if it is not an explicit Biblical command but rather an individual interpretation.
One must also ask, if in these circles women are suppose to be keepers at home, who is suppose to go out and work in order to put something in the hands of these mendicants every time they come knocking?

President Barack Obama is putting the finishing touches on making a mockery out of the unsupportable claim that Democrats care about women’s rights by his signal to the Afghan Taliban, warlords, strongmen, militias, and tribal leaders that he’s ready to negotiate with anyone there in order to smooth his efforts in that troubled region.
President Obama is letting it be known that he’s prepared to cut deals with the Taliban in order for Afghan warlords to cut ties with al Qaeda. Obama thinks he can work with the supposedly “moderate” Taliban groups in Afghanistan in a bid to oust al Qaeda. A Taliban moderate. What sort of mythical creature is this?
One thing is sure, however, if Obama turns Afghanistan back over to the Taliban and other Islamic warlords in an effort to make it appear as if he’s had success there, women will be the hardest hit. The possibility that Obama will abandon Afghanistan’s women frightens Wazhma Frogh, an Afghan women’s advocate who received the U.S. State Department’s 2009 International Woman of Courage Award.

ACORN Destroying Republican Voter Registration Forms

Not long ago, Pam Geller told the story of an ACORN office in Florida that had destroyed all the Republican voter registration forms it had gotten during a 2008 voter registration drive.
Geller had a first-hand account of this crime from one Fathiyyah Muhammad, an Obama voter that is a registered Republican. She is also an African-American.
“This is my first experience” with ACORN, Muhammad said. “This was before Obama got the nomination, long before then….I heard about this group that was paying $3.00 per person, to go out and to get people to sign up to vote. So I went over, I thought that well this is a good way to make some money because I know everybody, you know. I went over there and this guy signed me up and everything, and gave me my little pad, all this stuff.”
Muhammad dutifully went out and registered a bunch of Republican voters in Jacksonville and returned to the ACORN office to turn in her results. However, the ACORN representatives were incensed to find out that her registrations were for Republicans and not Democrats.
