Press release from the Put-Back Amendment campaign:
The Put-Back Amendment is the only amendment that will bring real reform to Springfield. It enacts 8 year term limits so we no longer will have lifetime politicians who hold a death grip over the state. It ensures fair elections by ending gerrymandering, reforms ballot access laws and allows independents full access to the ballot. It promotes real legislative reform by requiring 7-day public viewing of all legislation and 25 of 177 legislators can force an up or down vote on any legislation so leaders can no longer exercise complete control of the legislative process.
You can learn more about the amendment here. To get this on the ballot, we need 500,000 signatures and we need your help to gather them after the New Year.
Jim Oberweis, Other Political and Civic Leaders Endorse Put-Back Amendment!
Tomorrow at the State Capitol at 1pm, the principal author of the Put-Back Amendment, John Bambenek, will announce that individuals representing all points on the political spectrum have endorsed the Put-Back Amendment including former Republican Congressional and Gubernatorial Candidate Jim Oberweis has endorsed the Put-Back Amendment. In announcing his endorsement, Jim said:
We can all argue about whether 2 year terms or 4 year terms are better and whether term limits should be 8 years or 12 years but we must all agree that term limits and sensible electoral districts are critical in ending the culture of corruption so prevalent in Illinois politics. This Amendment takes real steps in addressing and potentially solving this problem instead of just arguing about it for many years more. I hope we can get this on the ballot and let voters make an intelligent decision.
In addition to Jim Oberweis, the following announced their endorsements to the Put-Back Amendment:
William “Dock” Walls, Democratic Party Candidate for Governor
Dan Proft, Republican Candidate for Governor
Lex Green, Libertarian Party Candidate for Governor
Randy Stufflebeam, Constitution Party Candidate for Governor
Dan Kairis, Green Party Candidate for US Congress (IL-14)
Jim Purcell, Former Republican Candidate for US Congress (IL-14)
Alton Franklin, Independent Candidate for US Senate
That is in addition to the other endorsements we have already received. People who are looking for real reform are signing on the make the Put-Back Amendment a reality. You can see our list of endorsements here.
