Statistician Nate Silver to Leave New York Times for ESPN

For the last six years Nate Silver made himself a household name among political wonks for correctly predicting the 2008 and 2012 election cycles in The New York Times, but now Silver is reportedly preparing to leave the Times for ESPN to pursue more sports-related work.

A July 19 report in the paper reveals that insider information indicates that Silver will be announcing a switch to the sports cable TV network maybe as soon as next week.

The Times speculates that Silver will be a recurring commentator on the new sports show that Keith Olbermann will host on Disney-owned ESPN2. Silver is also expected to have an on-air role during upcoming election cycles on ABC News, also owned by Disney.

Neither ESPN nor Mr. Silver have commented on the possible move but insiders requesting anonymity told the Times that Silver’s new arrangement could be announced as early as July 22.

The move would not be surprising. After the 2012 election cycle, Silver was blessed with a multitude job offers and his three-year contract with the paper expires in August.

Nancy Graceless: George Zimmerman was ‘Out on Bond, at Taco Bell Every Night, Having a Churro’

All during the George Zimmerman trial, HLN host Nancy Grace has indulged some pretty profane rhetoric–at least shocking for a supposedly serious news program. In one outrageous case, the “news” person complained that Zimmerman was “out on bond, driving through Taco Bell every night, having a churro.”

This wasn’t the case, of course, but let’s not let truth get in the way of Nancy Grace’s good racist, anti-Hispanic rant, shall we? (Maybe we call her “Graceless” from here on out?)

I am amused how Britain’s Daily Mail reported the incident, though. Note how the Mail characterized Grace’s show:

“But during a little-watched and little-noted broadcast on Friday, Grace used her own racial stereotype to refer to Zimmerman during her reaction to the closing statement from Zimmerman attorney Mark O’Mara.”

“Little-watched and little-noted broadcast”! OUCH!

No one celebrates at another’s death, but upon some passings it is well and proper to note the evils they perpetrated during their lives and the passing of Helen Thomas presents us with an opportunity to reflect upon the hateful, disgusting, perverted life this woman led. It is instructive to note upon her passing that she presents a great negative example of how a human being should live a life.

Many on the extreme left (by that we mean all “journalists”) today are celebrating Helen Thomas’ life. Granted she achieved quite a lot for a woman in the 50s and 60s becoming a prolific White House journalist. It was quite a feat to break into that “man’s world” of the day.

But succeeding in one area does not erase the hate she evinced during that rise. She was always, always a reliable hater of the Joooos, for sure. She was also a reflexive, unfair, and unthinking hater of everything right of the Stalinist left and used her high perch in the world of journalism to attack every Republican she could.

Naturally her pals in the Old Media establishment are using the mild descriptive “controversial” to describe this odious woman, but let’s just run down some of Thomas’ greatest hits, shall we?

Cincinnati Skywalk: The Folly of Government Writ Large

The folly of government planners is writ large in Cincinnati, Ohio. In the late 1960s the city fathers of The Queen City decided that the only way to revitalize its downtown businesses and to compete with the large shopping malls then just starting to spread across the nation was to create a “skywalk” system–a series of pedestrian bridges that loomed over the city streets connecting buildings one to the other. But, now the same city is saying getting rid of those same skywalks will revitalize the downtown area.

So, in one decade, city planners said that it was important to spend millions of tax dollars to create dozens of bridges across city streets because it was the only way to revitalize a declining city center, yet but a few decades later city planners reversed themselves saying that spending millions of tax dollars to dismantle that same bridge system is the only way to revitalize a declining city center.

Either way, the taxpayers are stuck with the bills.

Illinois State Representative Monique Davis is blaming the Chicago Police Department for the high number of killings in the Windy City. She’s not just blaming the CPD for bad policing, though. She wonders if it is the police themselves doing some of the killing.

Davis, a House member from a district on Chicago’s South Side, uttered the accusation in a “some say so” manner on Detroit’s WCHB-AM radio on July 16.

Well, the bills have come due and Detroit has gone from Motor City to Tap City declaring bankruptcy, the largest U.S. city to ever do so. This is what Barack Obama wants to turn the whole country into, folks.

Not long ago the state of Michigan passed a law to give power over troubled city budgets to what is called “an emergency financial manager” and Detroit had been under the guidance of EFM Kevyn Orr for some time. But Orr has essentially admitted defeat by recommending that the former auto-making powerhouse file for Chapter 9 protection.

Orr reported to the state legislature that the city was upwards to $20 billion (yeah, “billion” with a “b”) in debt and that it wasn’t possible to make good on that debt.

(Meanwhile, our bailed out auto industry is now outsourcing to China! Nice, eh?)

In a letter appended to the filing, Michigan Governor Rick Snyder said, “The citizens of Detroit need and deserve a clear road out of the cycle of ever-decreasing services.”

The cover of the August issue of Rolling Stone magazine won’t feature a rock star or actor. Instead, on August 3, fans will find a full cover photo of Boston marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

The full cover image is the well-known self-taken portrait of the bombing suspect that shows the youth with a mane of tousled black hair surrounding a face studded with sparse fuzz and featuring a sly, partial grin floating above a headline that simply says “The Bomber.”

A subhead reads, “How a popular, promising student was failed by his family, fell into radical Islam and became a monster.”

The cover story is written by Rolling Stone contributing editor Janet Reitman. In the story she reveals that “Jahar,” as his friends called him, once said that the attacks on America by Islamist terrorists on 9/11/2001 were justified.

Chicago’s Father Pfleger: Trayvon Martin ‘Just Like’ Civil Rights Icon Emmett Till

Chicago’s activist Catholic Priest, Father Michael Pfleger, took the occasion of the George Zimmerman trial to race to the streets to stir his flock, preparing them for “civil disobedience,” and leading a rally to decry the not guilty verdict reached in the Florida case. Pfleger also claimed that teen Trayvon Martin is somehow just like civil rights icon Emmett Till.

Pfleger, a long-time left-wing activist in the city, took to the streets of Chicago holding a sign that read “I Am Trayvon Martin,” and announced to the media that on Sunday he was going to urge his flock of mostly African Americans at St. Sabina Church to “civil disobedience.”

Before the verdict was announced on July 13, Pfleger took to his Facebook page and in an all caps post asked God for a conviction of Zimmerman.

David Axelrod Uses Zimmerman Verdict to Push Gun Control

On July 14, close Obama adviser David Axelrod quickly resorted to Twitter to use the not guilty verdict in the George Zimmerman trial as a call for stricter gun control.

In one Tweet, Axelrod issued the inflammatory claim that George Zimmerman “stalked” Trayvon Martin. The presidential confidant also claimed that Martin was “minding his own business” when he was shot. This is undermined by evidence of the beating that Zimmerman suffered at the hands of Martin.

In a second Tweet, Axelrod criticized Zimmerman for having a gun that night, as if blaming the gun itself for the incident.

New York Times Attacking Messenger Over Anti-Obamacare Ads

All the mud-slinging that’s fit to print is apparently The New York Times’ revised motto if a recent editorial attacking a pair of video ads that raise questions about Obamacare is any indication as the Times decides to spend half its editorial attacking the character of some donors to the group that put out the ads instead of sticking to the issues.

The ads were put out by Americans for Prosperity, a group that counts as donors a pair of famous conservative brothers that serve as the left’s biggest boogiemen: the Koch brothers.

The Times spends its first four paragraphs attacking the Kochs on a personal level. Calling them liars, employing class warfare against them, and saying–get out your tinfoil hat, here–they hide their real agenda because it is just soooo evil.

In fact, I almost feel compelled to spell Koch Brothers with a capital “B” in brothers as the phrase has become a noun to the left in their effort to demonize the pair. And, interestingly, as the Times spends so much energy on excoriating the conservative philanthropists it must be noted that the pair are not in control of the ads or their content. The ads were put out by Americans for Prosperity, a group to which the Kochs are but donors–major donors, sure, but not wholly controlling donors.

Oh, the paper does finally get to refuting some of the points in the two AFP ads, but even there they unleash liberal trope instead of cogent analysis.

But as the “paper of record” falls all over itself to take Obamacare’s promises at face value without spending much effort to really looking at the facts, even President Obama’s own administration has lost confidence in the federal takeover of our healthcare system.

Associated Press now Retweeting Activists’ Hashtags

With its recent Tweet about Texas Democrat Wendy Davis, the Associated Press seems to have given up all pretense of the journalist’s “nonpartisan” creed by tweeting the hashtag of left-wing activists along with the news.

Democrat State Senator Davis made a name for herself at the end of June by holding a new Texas abortion bill hostage by launching a filibuster that thrilled the hearts of pro-abortion activists in Texas and across the country. Her supporters began to use the Twitter hashtag #StandWithWendy to support her on that social media outlet.

A hashtag is a short code meant to help Twitter users search for Tweets with a specific message. It can be used for humor, advertising or political activism. Activists of all sorts use hashtags to spur like-minded Twitterers to action. But it is an activist’s tool, to be sure.

Yet now the AP is using that activist’s tool appearing to throw its support behind the left-wingers supporting Davis.

Al Jazeera Employees Resign Over Network Siding with Muslim Brotherhood

Just as Al Jazeera America prepares for its national debut, employees of Al Jazeera’s parent network are resigning in anger over the network’s blatant bias in favor of Egyptian President Mursi and the Muslim Brotherhood. Many in Egypt feel that Al Jazeera is clearly promoting the agenda of the extremist Islamist organization and working to thwart those that stand against it.

MEMRI.org, a website dedicated to translating into English news sources from the Middle East, reports that one well-known female presenter, Fatma Nabil, resigned early in July because Al Jazeera was reporting stories from the Muslim Brotherhood’s point of view not to mention that Mursi was supported heavily by network executives and programmers.

The Middle East-watching website quoted Fatma Nabil as criticizing the network’s coverage of the current unrest in Egypt. “We had the feeling that the channel is partisan in favor of political Islam, and in most cases selectivity is exercised in broadcasting the text messages [of the viewers] on the channel, and even more so in the selection of guests and interviewees,” she said.

Up to 22 other employees have also resigned in protest over the obvious bias that Al Jazeera indulges in favor of Mursi and the Muslim Brotherhood.

“This tilt by the channel has many facets,” Memri points out.

Zimmerman’s Lawyer Going After NBC News ‘ASAP’

Now that the trial to determine whether or not he was guilty of a malicious murder is over, George Zimmerman’s lawyers are stepping up their lawsuit against NBC News for airing edited audio that allegedly made their client look like a racist.

Last December, Zimmerman filed the lawsuit against NBC for airing what many outlets described as deceptively edited audio on the March 27 broadcast of the Today show.

On the morning show, NBC spliced together two lines spoken by Zimmerman as he talked to a 911 operator to report Trayvon Martin as a suspicious character wandering his neighborhood.

On the NBC version of the call, Zimmerman is heard to say: “This guy looks like he’s up to no good. He looks black.”

Two Hero Teens Save Kidnapped Girl

Temar Boggs and his friend Chris Garcia deserve to be recognized for saving a five-year-old girl from a kidnapper in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Boggs and Garcia mounted their bicycles and began to look for a little girl that had turned up missing in their Lancaster neighborhood.

After riding around for an hour or so, the two boys saw a suspicious car and began to follow it. Boggs caught up with the car and saw a little girl in the car with an unknown man. The driver then got scared and pushed the girl out of the car.

The little girl turned out to be the missing 5-year-old Jocelyn Rojas.

Police are still looking for the suspect described as:

Police are still looking for the alleged kidnapper. Cops described him as a white man, between 50 and 70 years old, who walks with a limp. The car was described as a red or maroon-purple Chevy.

Boggs and Garcia certainly saved this little girl from a grisly fate.

On the July 14 broadcast of Fox & Friends Sunday, Tucker Carlson said out loud what everyone already knows: neither Al Sharpton nor Jesse Jackson are real civil rights leaders and both are little else but hustlers and pimps.

Carlson was talking to Fox correspondent Geraldo Rivera about the George Zimmerman trial and the pair were talking about the threatened protests that Jack$on and $harpton are planning to protest the acquittal of Zimmerman.

After Geraldo reiterated his “if you dress like a thug be ready to be treated like a thug” comment, Carlson went on to properly characterize the two rabble rousers who claim to be civil rights leaders.

I don’t know how I feel about George Zimmerman but I am positive that people like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton do not deserve to be called civil rights leaders. They are not. They are hustlers and pimps who make a living off inflaming racial tensions. They know nothing about this. They’re not residents of Florida. They don t represent anybody, they’re not elected to anything, they don’t have constituencies. The only reason they are allowed to do this is because we in the press enable them by calling them civil rights leaders. Why do we do that?

Exactly right, Tucker. These two ripoff artists have no interest at all in real civil rights. They just want cash in their pockets. They are sham activists only interested in who they can next shakedown.

African Americans in Oakland Attack White Man Asking About Reaction to Zimmerman Trial

On the night that the George Zimmerman trial verdict was released, Cyrus Massoumi got a little more than he bargained for when he asked a group of African Americans in Oakland, California what they thought of the results from Florida.

Massoumi was out and about on Saturday evening after the verdict was read and asked a few people on the streets in San Francisco for their reaction to the trial. In every case Massoumi found engagement, not anger, and certainly not violence.

But in Oakland that all changed when he came across a group of three or four African Americans standing on the street.

Massoumi and a friend (who was recording the encounters) asked the men what they thought of the trial. All were very negative about the outcome. Massoumi then tried to engage further noting that Zimmerman had the “stand your ground” rule on his side.

But instead of further discussion, the men immediately began to throw punches getting Massoumi on the ground before running off.

In an exclusive interview with me, Massoumi says that the video shows nearly all of his encounter with the men. Only a few seconds before was missed by the videographer.

“There was no earlier confrontation, we just asked the question and they suddenly started swinging,” Massoumi said. “We weren’t even trying to be confrontational. We were just looking for people’s honest reactions.”

MSNBC is drawing fire for having aired a still photograph of Florida youth Trayvon Martin lying dead on the grass in the aftermath of his altercation with accused killer George Zimmerman in February of last year.

During MSNBC’s Thursday afternoon, July 11 wall-to-wall coverage of the George Zimmerman trial, during Tamron Hall’s News Nation show, an image of Martin lying dead on the grass aired for about one second included as a slide show of photos from the trial feed.

Hall Tweeted that it was an “awful mistake.”

Greg Sargent of The Washington Post is very concerned that if the Republicans don’t rush through an amnesty bill, it might cause the “Hispanic media” to get mad at least he says so in his latest entry at The Plum Line blog. There, Sargent warns that the “GOP will get a beatdown by the Hispanic media” by slowing immigration reform.

Sargent sourly notes that Republicans in the House are putting the brakes on any forward momentum in favor of amnesty and “see no urgency whatsoever about acting this summer on immigration reform.”

Of course, many of these Republicans, the Post writer says, “won’t feel any pressure to act on reform” because they are in safe, conservative districts.

AP Reporter Tweets ‘So We Can All Kill Teenagers Now’ After Zimmerman Verdict–Then Deletes Tweet

A reporter from the Associated Press immediately jumped to Twitter as soon as the George Zimmerman verdict was read and fanned the flames of racism and stirred would-be rioter’s passions by saying that now it is legal to “kill teenagers now.”

AP reporter Cristina Silva took to her Twitter account to decry the Zimmerman verdict, saying, “So we can all kill teenagers now? Just checking.” (Hat Tip Tony Lee of Breibart.)

Of course, as soon as people began to notice that an AP reporter was fanning the flames of racial tension, she deleted her entire Twitter account.

In the meantime, many voices have been calling for riots should Zimmerman walk free. For instance, the New Black Panther Party has been agitating for riots during this trial. Others have also threatened riots.

It is now being reported that billionaire liberal activist George Soros is the bankroll behind the “nonpartisan” attacks on Kansas Governor Sam Brownback’s new judicial selection plan.

Two organizations in Kansas have led the charge against the Republican Governor’s proposal and both claim to be nonpartisan. But the two groups, Justice at Stake and the Kansas chapter of the League of Women Voters, are receiving hundreds of thousands of dollars from two of extremist Sorros’ liberal organizations in a similar way that Colorado’s liberal organizations implemented the “Colorado model.”

Brownback has been supporting changes in the state’s process of appointing judges. Previously Kansas judges were chosen by a commission made up of lawyers who are unaccountable to voters but Brownback has been pushing the adoption of the federal model where judges are appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the State Senate.

New Phone Ap Exposes Home Addresses of Legal Gun Owners

Are you an evil gun owner whose “gun religion” requires “live child sacrifices” to appease your gun god? Well now there is a smart phone ap to expose your home address to the world.

Gun Geo Marker is now available for anti-gun smart phone users to upload the home address of gun owners to a database created to mark “dangerous guns and gun owners.”

The ap was developed by University of California San Diego lecturer and anti-gun hobbyist Brett Stalbaum who claims that his project is meant to track “irresponsible” gun owners. But reading his ap website tends to affirm that Stalbaum thinks all gun owners are irresponsible–as with the “gun religion” comment.

As Stalbaum explains on the ap’s webpage, “Yes, I guess this is the same as ‘publicly geotag[ing] homes of people believed to belong to a particular religion.’ True enough, if your religion requires live child sacrifices to appease a cold, tubular god.”

Rep. Bachmann: Finish Border Fence Before Immigration Reform

USA Today recently put a negative spin on Minnesota Republican Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann’s position about the so-called “Gang of Eight’s” immigration reform bill, characterizing her point as a mere attempt to “kill the immigration overhaul,” yet her points were more nuanced than that.

The paper claims that Bachmann “contends immigrants who came to the United States illegally shouldn’t be rewarded with legal status” and went on to note that she opposes any of the current ideas being floated for immigration reform.

But Bachmann has not said that she doesn’t ever want to deal with the millions of illegal immigrants in the U.S., but that she simply wants to secure the border before any further discussion on what to do with those immigrants is had.

Mich Rep. Conyers Staffer Arrested for Carrying Gun in Courthouse

A staffer for Michigan Congressman, Democrat John Conyers, was arrested for bringing a concealed gun into a federal courthouse in Detroit but faced little by way of sanction or punishment as a result.

Rep. John Conyers’ office manager, Betty Petrenz, had the pistol in her purse as she entered the court building and told police that she simply forgot she had it in there.

She faced no prosecution and was given what one prosecutor called “a gift” for a penalty. She received a ticket for having a gun on federal property and got what is called “pretrial diversion,” a sentence that involves neither jail time nor a fine. It merely requires the person to be on good behavior for a specified period of time after which the ticket is dismissed.

Tresa Baldas of the Detroit Free Press found that three other people who also accidentally brought their guns into the courthouse were treated a bit differently.

Neighbor: Zimmerman’s ‘Nose was Very Disfigured’ After Run-In with Martin

On Tuesday, Eloise Dilligard, a neighbor of Accused shooter George Zimmerman, testified that after the encounter with teen Trayvon Martin, Zimmerman’s “nose was very disfigured” and his face was covered in blood immediately after of the incident.

Dilligard’s testimony was brought to the courtroom via the Internet due to her unspecified illness, but the neighbor supported Zimmerman’s claim that he was assaulted by Martin before the teen was shot.

The woman said she had arrived at the scene of the incident only moments after it was over and was asked by a police officer to identify those involved.

The Chicago Sun-Times has apologized for a headline pun reporting on the Asiana 214 airliner crash that seemed racist to some Asians.


The Sunday Sun-Times Front Page

Asiana flight 214 crashed in San Francisco on Saturday, June 6, but in its front page report on the crash, the Chicago Sunday Sun-Times blared a headline that read “FRIGHT 214.”

The Asian American Journalists Association was not amused by the play on words wondering if the Sun-Times understood that changing the “L” in “FLIGHT” to an “R” could easily be perceived as a play on the stereotypical difficulty of some Asians to pronounce the letter “L.”

“While we at the Asian American Journalists Association are willing to give the Sun-Times the benefit of the doubt, the headline used to accompany the paper’s coverage was certainly unfortunate. An editor should have caught the racially tinged wording,” said AAJA’s Bobby Calvan in a public post on the organization’s website.

Al Jazeera America has landed another member of the American media as Soledad O’Brien joins the foreign-owned cable network that is set to debut later this year.

The Soon to launch Al Jazeera America, owned by the Oil-rich, Muslim country of Qatar, has snapped up O’Brien since she was fired by CNN for low ratings last March.

Politico reported that Ehab Al Shihabi, executive director of Al Jazeera’s international operations and the senior executive, praised the hire saying, “O’Brien’s career producing and reporting on the human side of many of the most important stories of the past decade will fit in perfectly with what Al Jazeera America will be covering every day.”

“Her dedication to that type of journalism is what makes it so exciting to announce that she and her production company are joining the Al Jazeera America team,” Al Shihabi said.

237 Independence Days and Counting, But What Does it all Mean?

Today America enjoys the celebration of 237 years of existence as a nation by noting the day we declared our independence from our Mother nation, England. Sadly, that celebration has, for too many, become the “July Fourth” holiday, a day of picnics, rote parades, “white sales,” and for some a day off work. Of course, we should not and don’t celebrate any “July Fourth.” We celebrate Independence Day, the day we formally separated from our parent nation and took those first unsure steps into the world as a nation of our own.

So, what is this Independence Day all about? Well, for one thing we celebrate the gifts that our Creator has given us. That’s right, our Founding Fathers started this nation celebrating the gifts of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and those natural rights given to us by God, rights that no man can tax away from us, rights no man can legitimately take by force.

Contrary to the God averse America we have stumbled into, the Declaration mentions God, the Creator, or the divine multiple times and the Founders rested their entire claim of liberty and freedom on the claim that no government can legitimately take away the natural rights that mankind should and must enjoy.

The fact is the Founders did not want a nation free from religion (there is no such founding principle as a “wall of separation” as many think of it today, but that is another story for another day). This is not a Godless nation, but a nation based on Christian ideals.

Secondly, the Declaration of Independence is also a list of the wrongs and slights that England perpetrated against us. In the list of crimes against us that the English Crown and Parliament perpetrated against us is detailed many of the rights that free men must enjoy to truly be free men. This list of slights is not just stuffy old history but are timeless principles which should guide all men even today.

And lastly, to that “all men” point just noted. Our Founders did not write a Declaration that only pertained to their situation in their focused pint in history. Instead they wrote a document to inspire every people to take up freedom and liberty as their own. The Declaration of Independence is not just a document for America. It is one that should inspire all men everywhere to throw off the shackles of government-imposed slavery. It is a document that is not just for the nascent American people, but one that insists, “all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”

The Declaration of Independence is for humanity. Not just America.

And so that is also our charge. Freedom is a cause for all men, not just Americans. The United States should not shrink from the charge to aid and encourage freedom and liberty for all men.
