The ‘Fairness’ of the US Supreme Court

In the aftermath of oral arguments in both the Patient Protection & Affordability Care Act and Arizona SB1070 cases at the United States Supreme Court, many in the mainstream media, as well as the many so-called political strategists of the Left, are setting the stage for a political inoculation. Progressive and Democrat pundits and operatives alike are declaring that should Obamacare be rendered impotent, and should the SCOTUS uphold Arizona’s immigration and border protection law, it would all be the doing of Right-Wing judicial activism. While this rhetoric may be a winning strategy politically, it is, nonetheless, what Progressives and committed Liberals believe.
The idea that the Supreme Court might be “fair” or “unfair” in establishing the constitutionality or unconstitutionality of any given case is a matter of perception. The frailty of the human ego – along with the pomposity of ignorance and the intellectual limitations of the constitutionally illiterate mind, sadly, facilitate the belief, by some of the more ardently political that should the Supreme Court rule in a way that does not run in lockstep with their political belief system, somehow the ruling is “activist.” And while I freely admit that the scourge of judicial activism does indeed exist, at the level of the US Supreme Court the action (or inaction) is quite rare.
Granted, each Supreme Court Justice possesses his or her own political ideology, but such is the nature of deliberative bodies stewarded by human beings. It is for this reason that great care needs to be taken by Presidents in making nominations to the United States Supreme Court. It is for this reason that pure ideologues and special interest operatives should be resolutely rejected from consideration for the bench by the United States Senate and not “rubber-stamped” as giving the President his due. And it is for this reason that both past Presidents and members of the Senate have failed the American people by allowing ideologues and special interest nominees to have reached the bench.
Abortion-Supporting Obama Makes Pregnant WH Visitors Register Unborn Baby as Separate Visitor

It is interesting that the Obama White House, a place where everyone thinks a pre-born baby is just a lump of “unviable cells” and not really a person, is now insisting that pregnant mothers must register themselves and their unborn baby on the visitor log when they visit the White House.
As noted by Steven Ertelt,
The Director of the White House Visitor’s Office, Ellie Shafer, today distributed an email newsletter to members of Congress and others providing detailed instructions on how to register an unborn child (“a baby that has not yet been born,” as Shafer puts it) into the security system the White House uses to arrange group tours.
“We have received a number of calls regarding how to enter security information for a baby that has not yet been born,” Shafer wrote. “Crazy as it may sound, you MUST include the baby in the overall count of guests in the tour. It’s an easy process.”
My guess is these abortion-supporters don’t even get the irony of a White House that on one hand wants to devalue a fetus as not worth anything, a “lump of unlivable cells” that could be destroyed at will, yet want expecting mothers to register their unborn babies as a separate “person” when they visit the People’s House.

NBC has created an entire phalanx of videos centered on environmental issues to show its fealty to the religion of greenism. There are celebrities, trite slogans, and all sorts of absurd promises on what going green can do for us all. But are these “solutions” really any good? Let’s look at one of NBC’s claims to see if it makes much sense, shall we?
The subject happens to be one of green fascism’s favorites: light bulbs. The ad, you see, claims that if every American household gets rid of incandescent light bulbs to be replaced with an energy savers, why… well, here is the voice over of the ad:
If every home changes one of these (image of an incandescent light bulb) for one of these (an energy saving light bulb), we’d save enough power to light up New York City for a year. Broadway, Wall Street, Central Park. Just one light bulb. You don’t have to do a lot to do a lot.
But let’s think about this.

The Left’s National Vote Fraud Strategy Exposed

Jim Simpson has penned an extensive investigation into the left’s upcoming efforts for massive vote fraud in 2012. The report reveals the Left’s vote fraud strategy for the 2012 elections. Like a KGB operation, it is thorough, multi-faceted and redundant. It has overt and covert, illegal and legal elements, the latter of which are designed, at least in part, to facilitate illegal activities later. It is a deliberate, premeditated, comprehensive plan to win the 2012 presidential election at all costs, and is in keeping with the organizational methods, associations and ethics of the Community-Organizer-in-Chief, Barack Obama.

Aborting Born Babies: Are Only Liberals Truly ‘Human’?

In February of 2012, a pair of left-wing “philosophers” wrote a paper that claimed that babies aren’t human until they can become cognizant of themselves, aware that if they were to be “aborted” or killed they’d be losing something valuable, their lives. This, they claimed, justified abortion as well as post birth infanticide. Naturally they had elaborate justifications for their stance and what they wrote is chilling indeed, for it essentially states that only people that think like them are really worth the status of “human,” worth having their lives considered sacrosanct.
The pair, Alberto Giubilini of Milan, Italy, and Francesca Minerva of Australia, held as a central thesis that since abortion is so commonly accepted there had to be a more expansive use for it. That use, the pair decided, should be to cover killing babies born with developmental problems. After all, they said, neither fetuses or newborns “have the same moral status as actual persons,” so this certainly must mean that newborns with catastrophic birth defects could be killed without any moral reservations.
Here is how they justified the non-human status of both a fetus and a born baby.

The Tragic Consequences of Social Justice Education

The president of the National Education Association continues to promote ideas that are anti-American and are turning our kids into progressive, anti-wealth, equality-obsessed robots.
Last week, the drone-like National Education Association President Dennis Van Roekel gave a talk at the annual gathering of the Nebraska State Education Association. He unleashed the same tired old class warfare hogwash that teacher union leaders have been yammering about for years. The latest version of this old whine stresses closing corporate tax loopholes. As I wrote last week, the NEA claims the U.S. can recoup $1.5 trillion in taxes if those greedy corporate types would just pay their “fair share.” Van Roekel conveniently omits the fact that NEA took in $400,000,000 in 2010-2011, mostly in dues forcibly taken from its members, and didn’t pay one red cent in taxes.
Van Roekel then reprised another union mantra – claiming that NEA must pursue “social justice.” He said,

Bridge Bomber’s Name Appears on Occupy Cleveland Bldg. Lease, Occupiers Mad at FBI Instead

In another story that should surprise no one, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reveals that the name of one of the Ohio bridge bombers nabbed by the FBI is so closely involved with Occupy Cleveland that his name appears on the lease of the rented warehouse they use for a headquarters. Instead of being ashamed, though, the Occupiers are mad at the FBI, apparently.
When stories about the late April arrest of five Ohio men who had formed a plot to bomb some key bridges in Ohio first surfaced, the Old Media called them merely “anarchists.”
It wasn’t long, though, before the New Media began to find out that they weren’t just any amorphous “anarchists,” but members of the Occupy Wall Street movement in Cleveland (Occupy Cleveland). No Old Media outlets reported this in the beginning despite how easy it was to find the facts.

If education reformers stick to principle and don’t back down, all other obstacles to victory can be overcome.
Recently, Andrew Rotherham wrote a short piece in The Atlantic in which he describes “The 3 Main Obstacles in the Way of Education Reform.” The first obstacle he mentions is that currently “We buy reform.”
Or at least we try to. Some politicians really think that throwing money at the problem will help and the less principled ones do it because they are trying to pay back certain political allies. The result is that untold billions are taken from taxpayers to support giant bureaucracies on the federal and state levels and to prop up programs that do little or nothing to help the students who desperately need it. Rotherham writes:

When Diocletian came to the throne, the Roman Empire was gasping for breath. Inflation was rampant, so like most incompetent politicians, he instituted wage and price controls that have never worked! Of course, shortages immediately resulted. As the economy began to collapse, Diocletian persecuted the Christians, trying to divert the peoples’ attention from the sick and dying economy. Then, in 305, he abdicated, the first emperor to do so.
In 312, Constantine became the emperor, and he soon made Christianity a lawful religion. I am convinced that he was a hypocrite, and was one of the worse things that happened to the Christians.
Yes, things started going better for the suffering Christians, but from our present perspective, Constantine was not a blessing but a curse. The Christians settled down and relaxed, and began to prosper. They built church buildings (the first in the Third Century), and began to amass silver and gold. Slowly, a state church began to take shape in Rome, and by 381, Theodosius I made Christianity the official state religion.

We teach children to acknowledge and accept blame when they do something wrong. It is an important and useful trait in life. Those who do not learn this remain emotionally stunted children their entire life. I am, of course, speaking of President Barack Hussein Obama and I shudder to think of the continued damage he can do to the nation during his remaining months in office.
As Fox News’ Doug McKelway wrote in August 2011, “Obama has suggested that blame for the stagnant U.S. economy lies in places other than the Oval office. The latest example occurred Monday when the President said, “There will always be economic factors that we can’t control, earthquakes, spikes in oil prices, slowdowns in other parts of the world.”
The greatest slowdown has been at home, the national economy, is the only one of concern to Americans. Three and a half years into his first (and hopefully last term), Obama is still blaming it on former President Bush.

It is perfectly natural for a wife to be proud of her husband in those situations where such praise is warranted. In Michelle Obama’s case, well, we can certainly agree that his great success is something she can be proud of. But, pride does not excuse idiotic hyperbole and that is what she gave us on May first.
In fact, Michelle indulged not just hyperbole, but outright lies in that she tried to convince her audience that Barrack “knows” what its like to be poor.
Barack knows what it means when a family struggles. He knows what it means when someone doesn’t have the chance to fulfill their potential. And today as a father, he knows what it means to want something better for your kids.
You see, those are the experiences that have made him the man and the President he is today. And we are blessed to have him.

Apparently Obama and his administration operate under that old, underhanded adage that if you tell a lie long enough and loud enough it becomes “truth” because Obama has done it again by lying about how his jobs bill was to have been instrumental in the repairs of bridges that span the Ohio River.
Back in September President Obama had another one of his campaign rallies disguised as a press conference in downtown Cincinnati in front of the Brent Spence Bridge, a span that connects Ohio and Kentucky. At that time he claimed that his jobs bill and stimulus money was to pay for much needed repairs on the bridge. Afterward, newspaper fact-checkers in Cincy as well as Washington DC noted that Obama’s claims were simply untrue, no stimulus money was going to any of the bridges over the Ohio river, much less the Brent Spence.
The scolding of the media doesn’t seem to have deterred Obama, however, for this week he’s done it again. Lied about how his stimulus money and jobs bill cash was to go to repair bridges across the river.

In America We Elect presidents, we don’t worship them. But the Weekly Standard blog offered a headline on April 17, 2012 that could be filed under ‘seeing it is still too hard to believe.’
In a short piece by Daniel Halper the headline was “Michelle Obama: ‘This President Has Brought Us Out of the Dark and Into the Light’ If it were not a direct quote taken from Michelle Obama’s rally speech at a campaign event in Nashville, Tennessee earlier the same day, we could only imagine that some virulent anti-Obama politico went too far and just made up a false and despiteful headline to hurt the Obama campaign. But the headline is quite true.
Here is what is apparent. The Weekly Standard is no religious website and Daniel Harper is no dialectical theological giant like Karl Barth or a great expositor of the scriptures like Charles Haddon Spurgeon, but it is also apparent that he wasn’t trying to be.

Grease is the Word for ‘Emergency’ Increase in Government Powers

Democrat State Representative Kathy Webb of Arkansas is so alarmed that she says she needs “emergency powers” to make sure her stupid, thoughtless citizens do the right thing. Nanny Webb, you see, is upset at sink grease and wants those nitwit citizens to make sure they don’t wash it down their sink drains and she wants to use the iron boot heel of government to make sure they obey her will.
James Taylor, the writer not the singer, of Forbes magazine tells us of Nanny Webb who wants “to declare an emergency” over the offending goop, noting that “Frying hamburgers is now The People’s Business of the Highest Order” in the razorback’s state. Webb has introduced a bill to make sure her serfs toe her line.
Webb’s bill claims food grease presents an emergency risk of sewer overflows that threatens the environment. “It is in the public interest to establish a Fat, Oil, and Grease Advisory Committee to study the recommended measures to better ensure that the collection, transportation, disposal, and recycling of fat, oil, and grease are done in a manner that is protective of the environment,” reads the bill.
Oh, but this isn’t just a bill meant to punish the stupid, stupid people. It’s also a jobs bill. Why, 14 of Webb’s closest pals will get a nice cushy state job on the 14 member panel she intends to create with her new law, not to mention the “adequate staff and facilities” she wants to afford them… at the expense of those stupid, grease-dumping taxpayers, of course.

After four years of a celebrity president, is your life any better?
Obama is the “cool president,” we are told. Obama slow jams with Jimmy Fallon and calls Kanye West a “jackass.” He goes on late-night TV every other week. He plays basketball and spends more time on vacations and golf courses than he does in the White House. He also owns an economy where 50% of recent college grads are unemployed or underemployed, and 85% have to move in with their parents.
Has four years of a pop culture POTUS made anyone’s life any better?

Leadership, it turns out, does matter. In fact, it is absolutely critical to the efforts of an organization and to the ultimate outcome of those efforts. Correspondingly, lack of leadership is also very telling. All the symptoms of a lack of leadership are glaringly evident in the current occupant of the White House and his crew.
This past couple of weeks has provided ample opportunity for us to judge the quality of leadership provided by this administration since coming into office. The General Services Administration’s (GSA) conference in Las Vegas (paid for by you), followed by the U.S. Secret Service Advance Team in Colombia bringing prostitutes back to their hotel (where they were lodged at your expense) have sharpened the focus on the style of leadership being practiced since January, 2009.

Last week comedian Jon Lovitz appeared on a podcast to talk about his years on NBC’s Saturday Night Live. The conversation, though, veered toward politics and to many left-wingers it veered too to the right! On the pocast, Mr. Lovitz went on a tirade about what he feels are the tax lies Obama is unleashing on America causing Lovitz’ fair weather fans to take to their Twitter accounts in merciless attack on the funnyman.
We can call this episode a case of being mugged by reality. In fact a double dose of it, yeah, that’s the ticket.
Lovitz lambasted Obama as a “jackass” for constantly saying that the “rich” in America don’t pay their fair share. He also noted that despite what the liberals say, “the rich” don’t pay low tax rates. In fact, he feels they pay at least 50% of their income in taxes when all taxes of all sorts are added up. He also pointed out that he considers himself a liberal and he voted for Obama. Of course, as most comedians do today, Lovitz went for the blue language, but his rant was extremely heartfelt and passionate and it became the rant heard ’round the Internet — well, at least the rant du jour of last week, anyway.
Still, it is quite an event when a self-described liberal launches into such a discussion and carves out for himself an opinion from what most would imagine is right-wing territory. But there you have it. Lovitz was mugged by reality.

No according to dolphin watchers in California, dolphins are victims of those mean, mean, dolphin bullies. As the self-proclaimed political strategists pontificate the minutia of the many issues to be debated in this General Election cycle, it isn’t hard to understand that there are so many issues to be debated; so many scandals, instances of inaction and examples of ideologically-based activism disguised as government, that we could very well run out of time debating them before any definitive case was presented to the American people about whether the current President’s Administration has been a success or failure. This is an old strategy of the political Left, run out the clock. And, as the race heats up, you will see myriad examples of Progressive and Democrat operatives moving from the many topics of debate to by-product issues and arguments based on semantics.
But as the twenty- and thirty-something, green-behind-the-ears Conservative “strategists” respond to the well choreographed tactics of diversion executed at the hands of David Axelrod, David Plouffe, Valerie Jarrett and the “smirk crew,” with what they believe are witty and potent retorts, I put it to you that the case for this administration’s dismissal is easy to make if one adheres to the K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple, Stupid) strategy for political gamesmanship.
The question to be focused on is not whether Mr. Obama kept any campaign promises or not. That question is easily answered by conferring with his base supporter special interest groups. Ask the Latino voters if he fulfilled his promise to establish comprehensive immigration reform. Ask the members of the anti-war movement if Mr. Obama has increased or decreased the number of theaters of engagement during his tenure. And ask all the peoples of the nation if Mr. Obama has united or divided us, given that he promised to be “a uniter” and “a post-racial president.” No, it is easy to see that Mr. Obama didn’t keep many – or any – of his campaign promises. In fact, given that Progressives Chicago politicians will say and do anything to attain power, I’d say there is a pretty good chance he never really meant to keep those promises anyway.

I write against what I consider the outrages of the left every day. But occasionally someone on my own side, someone I otherwise support, will cast a boneheaded vote, or say something stupid, or advocate for a wrongheaded policy. I have to address such situations when they occur and this week the Rockford Tea Party is under my microscope for advocating that voters in the newly reconfigured 16th District should undervote (as in not vote) for Congressman Adam Kinzinger in the upcoming general election.
Many Tea Party folks in the district west of Chicago and running down the western side of the state are furious that Kinzinger loped over from his 11th District to primary Congressman Don Manzullo, the current 16th District Representative.
Many of these longtime 16th District residents felt Kinzinger was an interloper and in the analysis of voting records it was without a doubt that Manzullo’s was more conservative than Kinznger’s.
But, let’s face it, since the Illinois Republican Party has over the last 10 years failed so miserably to make any headway in this state and since the Democrats have a deadlock on power it was the Dems that got to control the redistricting and they made a map guaranteed to eliminate some GOP congressman or another. As it happens, Don Manzullo’s number came up this year.
This is galling most especially because the reason we had to redistrict in the first place is because we lost population in this Census and that means we lost a seat in Congress. The reason our population fell is because of the failed policies of the Democrats, yet the Illinois GOP is so feckless that it cannot even make the Dems pay for their failures and the Dems ended up being rewarded with control of redistricting, a control that will safeguard their own political power thereby assuring that Illinois will fall even further into the abyss! Nice going Illinois GOP.
Anyway, back to Kinzinger. As you all know, Kinzinger won his primary challenge against long-time Congressman Manzullo. Kinzinger will now appear on the ballot in November to take office in the newly jigured 16th District.

Tax Freedom Day is April 17th. Freedom from teacher union extortion? To be announced.
The National Education Association has thrown itself full force into the “corporate loophole” demagoguery campaign. According to the NEA, children are being victimized by avaricious corporate types who don’t pay their fair share of taxes. The NEA exhorts the American people to “stand up for the middle class and support closing corporate tax loopholes at the federal and state level, so that additional resources can be invested in public education and other services that build our communities.” In a message oozing with class warfare, we learn that “Corporate tax loopholes are costing our schools and communities resources that would help the next generation achieve the American Dream.” (Cue the violins.)
They then post a list of programs that would thrive if the greedy corporate bastards would just pay their fair share – Title 1, Pre-K education, etc. NEA of course fails to mention that these programs, though popular, are essentially federal boondoggles. They don’t really do what they purport to do. They do make work for unionized adults, however, which if you haven’t been paying attention, is all NEA really cares about. But I digress….
Using Citizens for Tax Justice as their source, NEA claims that closing the seven largest corporate tax loopholes would provide an estimated $1.487 trillion in additional revenues over the next ten years. Coincidentally, CTJ just happens to be the union founded and funded lobbying wing of something called the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy.

Earlier in the week a video surfaced on Youtube of Al Armendariz, head of the EPA office in Dallas, saying that he and his agency planned to “crucify” any business that crosses them. The video caused a lot of consternation on Capitol Hill as well as recriminations for the EPA. But by Friday the video had been pulled by Youtube because of complaints from the man that originally made the video. Turns out he’s an extreme environut connected with the gay community.
To quickly recap the video, Armendariz noted that his job as an EPA enforcer was like that of the ancient Romans. He joked that the EPA’s philosophy was like the Roman’s who, when mollifying a populace, would “find the first five guys they saw and they’d crucify them.” This, he laughed, would make the town “easy to manage for the next few years.”
So apparently Armendariz felt that the EPA’s job was that of indiscriminate intimidation as opposed to law enforcement.
That said, how does one guy get a video like this pulled and why did it happen?

One of the reasons why liberals think they’re so much smarter than the rest of us is their use of big words. Not big words like “sesquipedalian,” but more ordinary words that liberals have inflated in such a way as to make them include meanings that were never intended.
A favorite Democrat talking point about the pending Supreme Court decision on Obamacare is that, because health care represents one sixth of our nation’s economy, the Commerce Clause must apply. This conclusion rests on their equating “commerce” with “economy,” when in reality, the definition of the former is far narrower than that. “Commerce” is the large-scale trading of commodities, or material goods. It is not just anything that directly or indirectly affects the way a dollar changes hands.
The amendment process is very long and difficult by design. Besides, it relies on the actions of elected representatives, whose constituents may not share the liberals’ utopian ideals. Why not circumvent those obstacles, and simply change the Constitution by expanding the definitions of its terms?
