USA Falls Again on Freedom Scale, Thanks to Increase in the Obama-Led Ending of Rule of Law

USA Falls Again on Freedom Scale, Thanks to Increase in the Obama-Led Ending of Rule of Law

-By Warner Todd Huston

The USA has fallen another few notches on the freedom scale thanks in part to the increasing lawlessness of Obama and his Democrat cohorts according to the latest freedom list put out by the Cato Institute.

Over the last half dozen years or so the USA has slowly lost ground on the Cato Human Freedom Index. This country was once in the top 5 countries with the most freedom but this year the USA slipped several more places to the 20th spot.

Only last year the US was ranked 17th on this yearly list, but this year we’ve fallen to 20.

This slip in the rankings is mostly due to the fact that businesses are being strangled by oppressive regulations and crushed by rampantly greedy unions. But it also due to the end of the rule of law in the US as government ignores laws, re-tooling them and warps them at will in order to feed its rapacious appetite for complete control of our lives. And most especially the sharp rise in abuse of eminent domain rules allowing government to steal private property on a whim has contributed to American’s loss of freedom.

“Since the year 2000, the U.S. has been on a decline in terms of economic freedom,” Co-author of the report Ian Vasquez told The Daily Caller News Foundation on Wednesday.

Springfield Needs to Stop This Unfair Satellite Tax

-By Lisa Volpe

As the Illinois legislature continues to meet in Springfield with no state budget on the books, there are some who want to implement a new tax on satellite television customers. This is a discriminatory tax that’s perpetually suggested. The bottom line is that the cable industry wants to impose a satellite tax to make it less attractive for consumers.

The idea proponents are floating is to place a new 5 percent tax on every subscriber’s bill for no other reason than to suppress the satellite industry’s efforts to compete with cable.

Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle see this tax increase for what it is and have repeatedly rejected it. Since 2009, the cable industry has tried to pass satellite tax bills 53 times in 28 states – and state legislatures across the country have debated and rejected these new consumer taxes time and again. The reason is simple: satellite taxes discriminate against consumers who chose a wireless alternative to cable for their television.

Cable companies in Illinois pay rent – known as a “franchise fee” – to cities and towns for digging up public roads and for hanging wires. The cable industry somehow thinks satellite consumers should pay a tax simply for providing a competing service.

To Recycle or Not to Recycle, Mixed Messages in California

-By Warner Todd Huston

As California looks to initiate a “no waste” policy, a look at the statistics of landfills in and around the San Bernadino area shows that many have either seriously slowed their garbage intake for burial or only increased it slightly. That is, all except the landfills operated by Athens Services, all of which seem to have exceedingly high growth in landfill use. Now some residents are worrying that, unlike the other waste disposal companies, the Athens landfills are burying items that could otherwise be recycled in accordance with state and local laws.

At the same time this is happening, some California counties are aiming at what they call a ”no waste” policy, meaning that practically all garbage will be recycled somehow or another. Despite this far-fetched concept and the unlikely hood of reaching such a goal, most of the state is still slowly edging toward less and less use of landfills.

Certainly, most residents don’t think about garbage after it’s tossed. But, with large tax dollars being spent on waste disposal, residents across the country should look at their service providers.

Here’s why: Athens Services, a West Covina garbage service, seems to be going in the opposite direction of all the others in the area by increasing landfill use and residents want to know why this is happening.

Gun Banning Group Proposes Gov’t Use its Gun Buying ‘Power’ To End Run the Constitution

Gun Banning Group Proposes Gov’t Use its Gun Buying ‘Power’ To End Run the Constitution

-By Warner Todd Huston

On Friday a group of left-wing “ministers” in some little-known “social justice” organization was given the platform of The New York Times to flog their ideas on how to ban guns. Their idea was to use the “buying power” the US government ostensibly has to force gun manufacturers to toe the gun banning line or face a reduction in federal guns and ammo purchases. Essentially, these purported ministers want to use the federal government’s buying status as a way to make an end run around the courts and the Constitution.

For the Metro Industrial Areas Foundation–a group that claims its goal is to “build power for social change”–authors the Rev. David K. Brawley, the Rev. Otis Moss III, the Rev. David Benke and Rabbi Joel Mosbacher had a novel if insidious idea on how to beat the courts, the Constitution, and force their ideas about guns on the country in a totally unaccountable manner.

They want their activist ideas implemented through the back door by having the US government force changes in the gun industry using its billions per year in guns and ammo purchases as a big stick to beat the industry into submission.

This would be no less than the federal government interfering in commerce on a massive scale.

Donald Trump is Jeb Bush’s Fault (Along with the REST Of the GOP Establishment)

-By Warner Todd Huston

Let’s face it, Donald Trump has tapped into a very serious concern that most Americans have and that is illegal immigration. But the fact that he’s become a rising star in this GOP primary race at this time isn’t because he’s so great. It’s because the GOP is so damn bad on the issue. For Trump’s current success, the whole thing is Jeb Bush, John Boehner, and Mitch McConnell’s fault.

First off, let’s be frank. Donald Trump is not a conservative. He is a recent supporter of single payer healthcare, has claimed in the past that he supports blanket amnesty, and has been all over the map on such important topics as guns and abortion. So, please let’s stop pretending he is a conservative. He absolutely has no such track record.

But his denunciation of Obama’s failed–in fact dangerous–immigration policy is exactly what angers and frightens GOP voters along with a fair portion of Democrats.

Likely without doing the requisite research for statistics to prove the matter, Trump innately understands that what we have going on in immigration is a dangerous and wrong headed policy, one that seems to have a twin purpose: to destroy this country and to set up a permanent Democrat majority through creating automatic Democrat voters after a presidential amnesty.

Trump has been absolutely fearless in speaking out against this dangerous policy that is turning America into a third world nation. He has taken the fight straight to Obama on numerous occasions and that is exactly what Republican voters want to see.

5 GOP Governors May Refuse to Obey Obama’s Global Warming Rules

-By Warner Todd Huston

Five Republican Governors are cooperating in a 10th Amendment-styled, states rights bid to defeat Obama’s un-Constitutional global warming power grab. The five are saying that they may simply ignore his edicts and refuse to implement his rules. Is your governor joining them? If not, why not?

Two of the GOP governors rattling their sabers are presidential hopefuls, so this issue just might become a national issue during the upcoming primary season.

The five governors who are warning Obama that they will simply ignore his power grab are Mary Fallin of OK, Greg Abbott of TX, Mike Pence of IN, and presidential candidates Bobby Jindal of LA, and Scott Walker of WS are also part of the group.

‘King v Burwell’ Marks the Official End of the American Republic

-By Warner Todd Huston

As he exited the Constitutional Convention, Benjamin Franklin was supposed to have told a bystander that the founders had given us a Republic, “if we could keep it.” Well this week’s latest Obamacare decision by the U.S. Supreme Court proves that we ultimately couldn’t keep it, Mr. Franklin. America is now a dead letter.

Of course, what Franklin’s possibly apocryphal reply meant was that we only had a United States system if informed citizens kept the government’s feet to the republican fires. We could only keep the system the founders gave us if we made sure the government stayed true to the system as handed down to us.

That system was one of a constitutional republic built on a rule of law, built on generations of tradition as evinced in the Common Law, and laid out with a system that had set parameters that were expected to remain virtually unchanged (though not unchangeable).

That system has been slowly eroded by parties and presidents who have had no fealty to our American way of life. Destroyers such as the Democrat Party, Woodrow Wilson, Franklin Roosevelt, and the mewling fellow travelers of the GOP who have quietly supported the destruction, all have taken their toll on our republic. But it wasn’t until the advent of our most anti-American president yet in Barack Hussein Obama that the nation finally died a death not from revolution, but from neglect.

Thoday’s action by the opportunist Chief Justice John Roberts has thrown the last spade full of dirt over the grave of the American Republic.

It is Now Indisputable That Pope Francis is a Risible Communist

It is Now Indisputable That Pope Francis is a Risible Communist

-By Warner Todd Huston

From now on, Pope Francis should be utterly dismissed as an important leader of the world. His latest global warming “encyclical” has proven he subscribes to a risible, anti-western and anti-capitalist theology and is less a Catholic than a communist.

I have been saying that this disastrous pope is a commie since his first few public addresses, but Catholic apologists who can’t get past their fealty to their “god on earth” have always found little outs, ways to dismiss the criticism of their pope by claiming that Francis is really just badly stating longstanding Catholic doctrine.

But with Francis’ new encyclical On Care For Our Common Home, the pope’s latest paean to the religion of global warming leaves no doubt that he stands against western values in most cases.

In this message–which lays out this terrible pope’s absurd ideas on his new religion of global warming–says that we need to stop buying things and turn the world back several thousand years to a time when life was brutal, uncomfortable, and short. He is essentially calling for an end to capitalism in this rambling paper.

Pope Francis goes on to claim that wealthy countries need to stop being wealthy and give away everything to the supposedly poorer nations but he doesn’t spend a second coming to term with why they are poor. He just assumes that rich nations are greedy and evil and must stop being so wealthy. This is quite a communistic theme.

Francis rails about all sorts of things in this jumble of nonsense. In paragraph 55 Francis even rails about the evils of air conditioning, of all things.

Illinois Still Pushing a Tax on Satellite TV Providers

-By Warner Todd Huston

Last month I noted that the Illinois state legislature is still pushing yet another tax to bedevil its already over taxed citizenry with the plan to push a tax on satellite TV providers. That plan has not abated.Unfortunately, it is just another example of Illinois burdening it citizens because of the failure of the politicians.

Recently Illinois State Representative Art Turner (D-09) floated the idea of in 2012, but was never signed into law.

For Some Reason the Media Goes Ga Ga Over Woman Who Wants to Start an Auto Repair Shop

-By Warner Todd Huston

I must admit that I have some mixed emotions about this story of a woman who saw that other women didn’t have their own auto repair shops, so she decided to start one. There are several ways to think about the tale, granted, but none of them seem to rise to the need for a big splashy national news story on her business proposal.

So, the big deal story is offered to us by ABC News. It is the tale of entrepreneur Patrice Banks who claims that she was “dumbfounded” that there weren’t any auto repair shops run by women in her hometown of Philadelphia. So, she has triumphantly announced that she plans to open one of her own.

The news piece makes a big deal out of the fact that a woman wants to open a car repair shop. Once again it’s that whole women-empowering-women theme we are treated to.

But, after reading about her tale I feel nothing but a big dose of “so what?” coming on.

Firstly, we have to realize that this story is premature. After all, Patrice Banks is only saying she is going to open her chick friendly auto repair shop to empower all those women out there hungry for a woman-owned auto repair shop.

Secondly… well, again, SO WHAT?

Obama Cancels July 4th Celebration in Embassy so as Not to Upset Muslims

-By Warner Todd Huston

So now our first Muslim president is canceling our own national celebrations in order not to upset Muslims, so we’ve got that going for us… which is nice. This week we’ve discovered that Obama’s crew staffing the U.S. embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia cancelled its celebration of Independence Day on July 4th so it won’t make Indonesians mad at us.

The celebration of July 4th was moved to June 4th so it wouldn’t upset Muslims celebrating Ramadan this year.

Obama’s ambassador to the majority Islamic nation, Robert O. Blake (Obama appointed in 2013) also said that the month-early Jakarta celebration of our Independence Day was in part meant to celebrate “green technology.” Because, I guess we separated from England so that we could make solar cells… or something.

So, not only does an Obama appointed ambassador move around out own national holidays in an effort to appease Islamists, but he then uses the re-scheduled event to push greenism.

Yep, that sounds like an Obamaite–America hating and all.

Bill Nye the Liar Guy Claims ‘Science Funding’ Is In The US Constitution

-By Warner Todd Huston

Why, didn’t you know, America, that the Founders were so far reaching that they put global warming funding right in the U.S. Constitution? Well, that is what Bill Nye the not-so-sciencey guy is claiming, anyway.

The guy who plays a scientist on TV, but actually has no science degrees at all, told Vox.com that the U.S. Constitution makes provisions to fund science, so being anti-global warming means you hate the founders… or something.

Here is what Bill Nye the actor guy told Vox:

When you have people denying this basic process, and how we all got here, it’s offensive to me intellectually. And I happen to think it’s unpatriotic. Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution says the government shall “promote the progress of science and useful arts.” So if you’re a politician looking to derail the progress of science, I think you’re not doing your job.

I want voters and taxpayers to recognize this. Do you really want to vote for somebody who doesn’t believe in the scientific method — and doesn’t believe that we defeated smallpox? Do you really want that person running your government?

Of course, this is all built on a lie. The U.S. Constitution says no such thing.

After Loud Support, Now Los Angeles Unions Want Exemption from $15 Minimum Wage Law

-By Warner Todd Huston

Once again wallowing in the hypocrisy that is liberalism, the same unions that went to the mat to support the new $15 per hour minimum wage law in Los Angeles are now demanding that the city exempt unionized companies from being forced to pay a minimum wage of $15 per hour.

The city’s union leaders were some of the loudest supporters of the new minimum wage, but now those same leaders are demanding that the L.A. City Council change the rules and exempt their own special interests from being stuck with the new wage.

Once again we see liberals insisting that everyone but them should be affected by a law they pushed.

Their excuse for the about face is that unionized businesses have already negotiated their deals and that they shouldn’t have to change them to observe the new wage law.

You Can Now Be Fired for Posting a Cartoon Gun Emoji on Twitter

-By Warner Todd Huston

In an idiotic act of PCism run amuck, The Houston Rockets NBA team has fired its social media director because he dared to posted two emoticons (or emojis) of a horse being shot by a gun after the Mavericks lost to the Rockets on Wednesday. The media guy’s bosses said that the gun emoji “wasn’t appropriate” and so fired him over it.

This is the idiocy we’ve arrived at, folks. It seems that all it takes for your career to be over these days is one non-PC action and bingo, bango, it’s the end. And why is a picture of a carttongun a fireable offense, anyway?

After the Houston Rockets beat the Mavericks, the Texans’ social media manager Chad Shanks jumped on Twitter to celebrate the team’s win–as is… or was… his job.

Shanks’ Tweet featured a cartoon gun emoji aimed at a horse invoking the old “dead horse” joke to suggest that the Mavericks were destined to lose.

Liberals Should Celebrate ISIS as Most Perfect Non-Profit Ever Begun

-By Warner Todd Huston

The left should be celebrating the ISIS terrorists as the perfect example of the sort of non-profit enterprise the virtues of which they constantly extol. In fact, led by the Obviator In Chief in Washington, since leftists are refusing to call ISIS what they are, maybe they are celebrating them after all?

Remember back in 2008 when Michelle Obama said that young people should not be so greedy as to get jobs in corporate America? Instead she instead America’s youngsters should find work at a non-profit. At a speech in Zanesville, Ohio, Michelle urged young people to make the choice “to move out of the money-making industry into the helping industry,” and darn it if ISIS didn’t take up on her challenge.

President Obama even once called his job working for a company as “working for the enemy” because of all that icky money and profits.

Illinois’ Slow Start to Fracking Still Faced Stiff Resistance

-By Warner Todd Huston | Watchdog Arena

Hes is my second piece at the Watchdog…

Even as fracking finally came to Illinois, it came at the worst time in the market for oil. This advancement, however, was not made easily. Resistance to the measure was heavy, replete with tough regulations.

In 2013, after then-Governor Pat Quinn signed the bill authorizing fracking, many hoped that the new rules would bring much-needed jobs to a state with one of the worst economies and job climates in the country.

But in recent months the price of oil collapsed, making fracking operations inside the U.S. much less profitable. For Illinois, it has been nearly too late to cash in. Could Illinois have avoided being too late to profit off of fracking?

Things could have gotten off to a better start. The Democrat-led state legislature dragged its feet on regulations and implementation for over a year and a half. By the time regulations were finished, the boom was on the wane….

Gallup Polling Org Rips Obama’s Fake Recovery As Jobless

-By Warner Todd Huston

Jim Clifton, the CEO of the Gallup polling group, recently published a huge slam on Obama’s fake economic recover that he sharply titled, “The Big Lie: 5.6% Unemployment.” In the piece he exposes something that we conservatives have been talking about for years, namely that Obama’s unemployment figures are nothing but lies and that the low, low labor participation rate proves that we have had no increase in jobs.

His piece starts somewhat absurdly saying that even “the smartest and most educated among us” don’t know that Obama’s unemployment rate reports are “extremely misleading.”

We can quibble with that because conservatives have been pointing this out since two years after Obama came to office. But, still, it’s good that the rest of the “educated” are catching up and finally starting to understand the lies that Obama is selling as an economic recovery.

Anyway, that aside, Clifton notes that the number of jobs has not really increased at all because there are millions who have simply stopped trying to find work and are seemingly permanently jobless. This is the labor participation rate and it is shockingly dismal.

Here is how Clifton put it:

Report: Every Business Started by Al Sharpton Closed for Non-Payment of Taxes

-By Warner Todd Huston

It has been discovered that all the businesses that race-baiter and MSNBC talking head Al Sharpton has started has been closed because of non-payment of taxes.

In the report at National Review by Jillian Kay Melchior, it was revealed that every for-profit company Sharpton has started has been forcibly shut down by one tax jurisdiction or another because he never paid his taxes.

Records show that Sharpton’s beleaguered for-profit entities often overlap and intertwine, some sharing ties with the reverend’s nonprofit organization, National Action Network. Their financial records are copious, confusing, and sometimes outright bizarre, and together, they depict persistent financial woes for Sharpton, who also personally owes New York State nearly $596,000, according to active tax warrants.

“He clearly appears — based on the information that’s available to us — to have a history of noncompliance with tax obligations,” says Bernadette Schopfer, the director of taxation at New York’s Maier Markey & Justic, a certified public-accounting firm that has had no dealings with Sharpton or National Action Network. “It appears that [Sharpton] does not file [taxes for his businesses], and then opens up something else. At all the entities we see he has opened up, he has not been compliant with the obligations of the owner of a business. . . . He’s either willful in his behavior, or he’s just sloppy.”

But it is the same with his personal taxes, too. It is well known that he owes at least $4.5 million in back taxes that he still has not paid nor made any provisions to pay.

[VIDEO] America: Don’t Root for the Socialist Seahawks

No it’s not because “Patriots” is more patriotic. No, it’s not even because the Seahawks are from a left-wing state–at least not merely for that reason.

So, why root for the Patriots? Here’s why a free market conservative should oppose the Seahawks…

Obama AG Nominee Insists Illegals Have a ‘Right To Work’ In The USA

-By Warner Todd Huston

On Wednesday Obama’s Attorney General Nominee Loretta Lynch said that all illegals should be allowed to work in the USA despite the fact that they are breaking our immigration laws and are essentially criminals in this country.

Senator Jeff Sessions (R, AL), Chairman of the Senate Immigration Subcommittee, questioned Obama’s Attorney General Nominee Loretta Lynch at the Judiciary hearing to consider her nomination. Sessions asked Lynch about the President’s decision to bypass Congress to order an amnesty, and how this action undermined the rights of disadvantaged American workers.

“The president’s actions,” Sessions said, “would give people who came here unlawfully the right to work, the right to participate in Social Security and Medicare, when Congress has not done that. Allows them to stay for at least a period lawfully. Let me ask you this, in the workplace of American today when we have a high number of unemployed, we’ve had declining wages for many years, we have the lowest percentage of Americans working, who has more right to a job in this country, a lawful immigrant who’s here–a green card holder–or a citizen, or a person who entered the country unlawfully?”

In reply Lynch said that all illegals should be allowed to work in the USA despite our current employment and immigration laws.

Chris Christie’s Appeal to Centrists is Failing to Catch Fire

-By Warner Todd Huston

It is plain that New Jersey Governor Chris Christie thinks that his path to the White House lies in plying the middle ground between conservatives and moderates and presenting himself as the man who can appeal to all political factions. But, so far at least, it seems he is failing to excite much interest in the idea.

Christie already suffers among conservatives. He is knocked by many on the right side of the political equation for not being conservative enough and Christie understands this criticism all too well. In fact, he felt the need to address this perception during his speech this month at Congressman Steve King’s Freedom Summit in Iowa.

Last weekend the New Jersey Governor told the conservative crowd that he is plenty conservative enough to deserve consideration by even the most conservative voter. Then he laid out his bona fides in an attempt to make his case.

Let’s just say he was received with polite applause but not many minds were changed.

Illegals Don’t Want to be Americans, So Keep Them Out

-By Warner Todd Huston

One of the things that the far left always says to excuse lawbreaking illegal immigrants is that they just want to be “like Americans” and attain the American dream just like immigrants to the US always have. This, however, is a lie. Many immigrants no longer have any desire to become Americans and just want our money so they can send it back home.

The old American dream was the promise that a “foreigner” could immigrant to the US, become a citizen, get a job, save their money, and make a life for them and more especially for their children.

For many of these people it was a special mark of pride to learn English and then learn enough about American history and its system of government to pass the citizenship test in order to become an official naturalized American.

This is what Democrats are invoking when they try to excuse lawbreaking illegals today. They claim that immigrants today are exactly the same as those of all our yesteryears.

But even the former president of Mexico is here to disabuse Democrats of this lie.

Illinois’ House Reps Have More Wealth Than Average Member of Their Electorate

(Here is my very first piece over at The Watchdog….)

-By Warner Todd Huston

A recent survey of the wealth of members of Congress revealed that, on average, it would take the combined wealth of 18 American households to equal the wealth of a single member of Congress. While this is an averaged statistic and individual cases vary, a review of the wealth of members of the Illinois delegation to Washington proves the rule rather than the exception.

The January report by OpenSecrets.org found that, “The median net worth of a member of Congress was $1,029,505 in 2013… compared with an average American household’s median net worth of $56,355.”

It is apropos to review what members of Congress are paid as they serve in Washington. Members of the House of Representatives are paid $174,000 a year, a salary that has been frozen in place since 2009. Speakers of the House and majority and minority leaders make a bit more than the average Congressman to befit their higher positions. Members of the House cannot collect a pension until they have served for five years, meaning they’d have to win election three times. Their pensions are never higher than 80 percent of their highest salary and is paid out at retirement age–unless they are still working somewhere in the federal government. In that case, they can’t collect a pension until they are no longer earning a federal salary.

So, what about Illinois? Well, the congressional salary itself certainly puts our representatives in a higher tax bracket than the average citizen of their state. According to information released by the U.S. Census, the median household income of the 13 million some citizens in Illinois is $56,777 annually. That is about 7 percent higher than the national average…

So Far, Obama Has Broken a Whopping 112 Promises From SOTU Speeches

-By Warner Todd Huston

The folks at the Grabien video service has taken the time to track all Obama’s promises made during his past State of the Union speeches and found that 112 of his promises have gone unkept.

From 2009 to 2014, Obama has made scores of promises at his SOTU blatherings, but few of his promises have been fulfilled.

In fact, Obama has the worst record of getting what he wants at the SOTU since Gerald Ford!

Grabien didn’t just create a montage video of the failed promises, but they also took the time to write them all out.

How Al Sharpton Rakes in Millions Not to Call Corporations ‘Racist’

How Al Sharpton Rakes in Millions Not to Call Corporations ‘Racist’

-By Warner Todd Huston

According to a new investigative article, Al Sharpton has spent years shaking down corporations essentially for protection money supplied to him so that he would avoid calling them “racists,” or setting up boycotts, and creating uncomfortable public relations nightmares.

An extensive piece in the New York Post on Sunday traced Sharpton’s practice of taking money in exchange for his silence. The MSNBC host, the Post said, has taken millions not to attack corporations for their purported racism.

“Al Sharpton has enriched himself and NAN for years by threatening companies with bad publicity if they didn’t come to terms with him,” Ken Boehm, chairman of the National Legal Policy Center (NLPC) told the paper. “Put simply, Sharpton specializes in shakedowns.”

Only a few weeks ago, the National Legal & Policy Center published an open letter to Walmart asking the nation’s largest retailer to stop funding Sharpton’s National Action Network.

Differences Between Civil Rights Movement of 1963 and Today’s Illicit Nonsense is Stark

Differences Between Civil Rights Movement of 1963 and Today’s Illicit Nonsense is Stark

-By Warner Todd Huston

Comparing the wholly American and sensible demands issued by the real civil rights movement during the event that saw Martin Luther King deliver his “Dream” speech in August of 1963 to the mishmash of self aggrandizing nonsense belched forth by today’s “BlackLivesMatter “movement” reveals a startling difference and exposes today’s protesters to be disjointed, illogical, filled and with race-hate not to mention insensate and childish.

When King mounted the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in that great American moment to begin to change forever how Americans treated its black citizens he didn’t do so alone. He stepped out to give his soaring “I Have a Dream” speech backed by hundreds of key members of the burgeoning civil rights movement, organizers who themselves were backed by hundreds of thousands of Americans, black and white, spread all across the country.

Before that great rally in Washington in 1963, the civil rights movement had already coalesced into a concerted effort replete with demands that they hoped would bring relief to millions of Americans yearning to be as free as the rest of the country.

Government Workers Should NEVER Be Allowed a Union

Government Workers Should NEVER Be Allowed a Union

-By Warner Todd Huston

What are the best jobs on average in California? Apparently being a government worker. Infuriatingly, government workers live far better, have higher salaries, retire earlier and have better benefits than most in the private sector even though, like leeches, these same government workers live off the taxpayer.

The worst of all worlds for the taxpayer is a government union. Government unions do nothing whatever for the very people paying the bills. They do not improve services, they don’t professionalize workers, and they wildly grow the waste of tax dollars. Worse, government unions give public servants higher salaries, richer benefits, and earlier retirement dates than the taxpayers footing the bills.

Even the patron Saint of the liberal left, President Franklin D. Roosevelt, was adamant that government workers should never be allowed to unionize. FDR thought it was “unthinkable and intolerable” to have a government workers union.

It’s for good reason, too. Government workers do not create the profits that might help enrich benefits. Whenever government unions get raises it simply means that taxpayers have to pay more to make up the difference.

Time to Pressure the Corporations That Donate to Cop-Murdering Al Sharpton’s National Action Network

Time to Pressure the Corporations That Donate to Cop-Murdering Al Sharpton’s National Action Network

-By Warner Todd Huston

Al Sharpton is able to fly around the country advocating for violent protests and the murder of cops because many of the nation’s top corporations have fallen for his shakedown efforts and give him millions to fund his activities. It is time to pressure these corporations to stop finding this charlatan’s efforts.

Did you know that Walmart gives Sharpton’s National Action Network (NAN) millions every year? So does beer giant Anheuser-Busch. And so do Macy’s and drug company Pfizer. And it’s time they all stop doing so.

These companies have all been afraid of seeming like “racists” for any refusal to donate millions to NAN, but now that Sharpton has become a part of the murder of several cops, isn’t it time that these same corporations fear being linked to a pusher of violence?

A recent article in The New York Post listed a series of large national companies that donate money to Sharpton’s NAN.

VIDEO: Fox News’ Shep Smith Laments How America Will ‘Ruin Cuba’

VIDEO: Fox News’ Shep Smith Laments How America Will ‘Ruin Cuba’

-By Warner Todd Huston

Shep Smith is at it again, this time he was heard on his Fox News show lamenting how America will “ruin” Cuba now that Obama is opening up diplomatic relations with that island nation. No, seriously. That is exactly what he said. This idiot really needs to go work for the commies at MSNBC.

So, we have a nation that has been oppressed for 50 years, a nation where even toothpaste and toilet paper is a luxury that most there can’t afford. We have a nation where any questioning of the government results in torture and murder. But with the possibility of the US initiating closer relations with that beleaguered nation, Shep Smith is now worried that contact with the USA will be bad for the Cuban people? Really, Shep?!

After sonorously noting how he paid $4 for a liter of his favorite Cuban booze last time he visited there, Shep’s cohost noted that there will be an “onrush” of American businesses that will want to get down into the Cuban market… though I don’t know why anyone would assume there even is a Cuban market or that Cubans have money to spend.

The New Budget Bill: Still Funds Obamacare, Still Bans Abortion Spending, Still Bans Internet Taxes

The New Budget Bill: Still Funds Obamacare, Still Bans Abortion Spending, Still Bans Internet Taxes

-By Warner Todd Huston

The New nine-month budget bill called the CR/Omnibus spending bill is a $1.01 trillion spending bill that is over one thousand pages thick. But it takes care of spending for most of 2015 and one has to wonder why the Republicans pushed a spending bill that will prevent them from affecting spending for most of the entire first year they will be in control?

It is absurd that the GOP didn’t push a continuing resolution that only tides the government over for a few short months because next year the GOP will be in full control of both houses of Congress. Yet, the GOP was not just *sighing* and agreeing with this nine-month spending bill, GOP leadership was pushing it. This is a bill that will cut the GOP out from having any influence on spending for most of their first year they are in control.

Still, many of the hundreds of policy riders–little bits of instruction that affects spending–are good for the conservatives. Of course, some will upset Democrats and some Republicans.

Anyway, here are some of the riders of interest in the new budget bill (in no particular order):

Obamacare Fully Funded

The bill fully funds Obamacare, though it does put a limit to any growth in spending and cuts the budget by $10 million for the “death panel” board called the Independent Payment Advisory Board. It also does not give the IRS any new funding so that the taxing agency can implement the Affordable Care Act.

Clean Water Act

In a victory for farmers, the spending bill will prevent the EPA from taking upon itself the power to regulate farm ponds and ditch water. This is also a victory for Republicans–not to mention the country!

EPA Funding Cut

Speaking of the EPA, its budget was cut by $60 million over last year’s budget. The EPA will get $8.1 billion. This is another decrease. Since 2010 the agency has lost 21 percent of its budget.

No Pot Legalization for Washington DC

The City Council of the District of Columbia will be prohibited from legalizing marijuana and will be forced to hew to the federal ban on pot. On the other hand, federal drug enforcement agencies and law groups will be prevented from interfering in state-based pot industries.
