Union Places Own Interests Above That of Members

When one thinks about unions, one usually assumes that it is an organization geared toward guarding the interests of its members, the average, every day worker. But in Michigan that notion seems almost quaint. No, in Michigan, the unions are guarding the interests of union bigwigs and actually dealing away the benefits of members to keep the unions toughs in clover.

Union thugs in the Wyoming Public Schools district near Grand Rapids, Michigan, has negotiated away up to $12,700 in annual salary and benefits for teachers just so it can try and keep a provision in the contract that allows the union to forcibly withhold dues money out of teachers paychecks as a mandatory condition of employment–a provision that now stands contrary to state law, by the way.

Environmental Shakedown Through Bastardized Application of Science, Policy and Education

Over a three-year period, 2009-2012, Department of Justice data shows American taxpayers footed the bill for more than $53 million in so-called environmental groups’ legal fees–and the actual number could be much higher. The real motivation behind the Endangered Species Act (ESA) litigation, perhaps, could have more to do with vengeance and penance than with a real desire to protect flora and fauna.

On May 7, I spoke at the Four Corners Oil and Gas Conference in Farmington, New Mexico. During the two-day event, I sat in on many of the other sessions and had conversations with dozens of attendees. I left the event with the distinct impression that the current implementation of the ESA is a major impediment to the economic growth, tax revenue, and job creation that comes with oil-and-gas development. I have written on ESA issues many times, most recently I wrote about the lesser prairie chicken’s proposed “threatened” listing (which the Fish and Wildlife Service [FWS] listed on March 27) and the Oklahoma Attorney General’s lawsuit against the federal government over the “sue and settle” tactics of FWS and the Department of the Interior.

While at the conference, I received an email announcing that FWS has asked a federal court for a six-month delay in making a final determination on whether to list the Gunnison sage grouse as an endangered species–moving the decision past the November elections. Up for re-election, Senator Mark Udall (D-CO) “cheered” the extension request. The E & E report states: Colorado elected leaders “fear the listing could have significant economic impacts.”

The superintendent of Greenburgh Central School District in Westchester County, New York has had a lawsuit filed against him in federal court charging that he racially and sexually harassed employees. This is interesting in that this same superintendent was once lauded as a “model for racial harmony” by The New York Times.

Superintendent Ronald O. Ross is accused of calling staff members “Oreo,” “white devil,” and “dyke,” as well as disparaging Jews and other races, often right to the faces of his employees.

The lawsuit was brought by a principal, four teachers, and three other school employees.

Florida School Banning Kids from Reading Bible During ‘Free Reading’ Time

A Broward County, Florida public school teacher sought to ban an elementary school student from reading the Bible or any religious book during an independent reading time where kids are required to pick their own books to read.

The teacher, an African American teacher named Mrs. Thomas, called the parents of fifth-grade Park Lakes Elementary School student Giovanni Rubeo demanding that they agree with her that religious books are banned from public schools and hinting that they need to punish their child.

This teacher also made a big show out of scolding the child in the classroom, too. When she saw that the child was reading the Bible she made him put the book down on the desk right there in the classroom and then immediately demanded he get his parents on the phone.

This teacher’s actions were obviously meant as a warning to the other kids, too.

When the teacher called the parents she left a message:

The Anti-Intellectualism, Ignorance, and Intolerance at Our American Universities

Since the 1960s the American University as an institution has ceased to be geared for education. It has, instead, become an institution geared to the indoctrination of an anti-American leftism that is wholly anti-intellectual. This is something that a member of the American Enterprise Institute recently saw first hand, but he isn’t the only one.

Murray, a libertarian political scientist, author, columnist, and a fellow at AEI, had for months been scheduled to speak at Azusa Pacific University about his new book, The Curmudgeon’s Guide to Getting Ahead, but only a day before his scheduled appearance, the university sudden revoked his invitation.

Azusa President Jon Wallace sent Murray, who may be best known as the co-author of the controversial book The Bell Curve, an email with one of the most absurd and convoluted excuses to cancel a speaker imaginable.

KMOX CBS Manufactures Journalism to Create ‘Outrage’ Over Confederate Flag

The Confederate flag has a very long and controversial history, to be sure. But a recent CBS report on a flag dustup in a school in Missouri shows just how slipshod journalism is today.

So, as the story goes, some kids at a Kansas City suburban high school have been playing with the Confederate battle flag lately and despite that there is no real news in the incident, the story made the news. Naturally the agenda journalists at CBS radio, KMOX, St. Louis tried their hardest to make it a story about “RAAAAAAAACISM!” despite that there doesn’t seem to be any proof at all that race is really a part of the story.

The report quotes a girl who noted that “some boy” was wearing a 3X5 sized C.S. flag as a cape and parading around “as if he was Superman or something.”

The assistant principal, as kill-joy officials are wont to do, took the flag away from the kid for whatever reason… not that school officials ever think they need a reason to take things away from kids, of course.

Racist: Illinois Democrat Calls Bi-Racial Republican a ‘Half’ of a Minority

Aurora’s Democrat State Representative, Linda Chapa LaVia, decided to let her racist flag fly on the floor of the House earlier this week when she called a bi-racial Republican a”half” of a minority during a debate on her failed teachers union-backed attempt to harm Illinois’ charter schools.

Chapa LaVia was pleading with the minorities in the chamber telling them that only they really care about education in Illinois when she turned toward her right where Rep. John D. Anthony (R, Morris) was sitting whereupon she slammed him as only “half” a minority.

Of course, even by any measure of the left’s ideas of what a “minority” is ancestors wise Anthony fits the bill. He is part Africa and part Hispanic having a Puerto Rican background. He was a policeman and was elected as a Republican in 2013.

Ah, but there is Chapa LaVia’s racist clap trap coming into play, isn’t it? You see, merely being a Republican is enough for Chapa LaVia to claim that Anthony is only “half” a minority.

Brandeis University Now Supporting Terrorism and Female Mutilation

Brandeis University withdrew its offer of an honorary degree to women’s rights activist Ayaan Hirsi Ali this month, sparking criticism for bowing to anti-American pressure brought against the university by Muslim groups.

Ayaan Hirsi Ali is a well known women’s rights advocate who has been fighting against the excesses of radical Islam were its constant violation concerns women’s rights and specifically against the brutal, inhuman practice of ritual female mutilation.

These are very worthy activities to celebrate and apparently Brandeis thought so, too… at least for a while. That is, until Muslims who celebrate the mutilation and oppression of women objected to the offer of the honorary degree to Miss Ali and demanded that the university withdraw its offer.

Sadly, 85 of the universities ignorant “professors” agreed with the mutilators and signed a petition demanding that their employers remove Ali from the honorary list.

In its reversal, the university said of Ali, “She is a compelling public figure and advocate for women’s rights, and we respect and appreciate her work to protect and defend the rights of women and girls throughout the world. That said, we cannot overlook certain of her past statements that are inconsistent with Brandeis University’s core values.”

Remember, liberals say that we need to be “tolerant” of Muslims in the U.S. because, gosh darn it, they are Americans just like you and me. While you are remembering that, Muslims in Dearborn, Michigan are trying to oppress a local Christian Church because it is hosting an Easter egg hunt. Proof that Muslims are just as American and tolerant as you and me.

As it happens, Cherry Hill Presbyterian Church sent a bunch of fliers about their secular Easter egg hunt to a local school district as an out reach effort into the community. The church says that the event is just a community event and does not feature any religious content.

The flier features images of Easter eggs and an Easter bunny. Naturally Muslims in Dearborn are furious and want to behead someone over the matter. OK, maybe just figuratively–for now–as they want to know who in the school district allowed the Church’s flier to be handed out to kids.

They will wait until they get in charge to begin the literal beheadings, of course.

Anyway, the Muslims claim that handing out the fliers is some sort of violation of Church and State–says people who want their church to become the state.

Common Core Worksheet Tells Kids to Chose 2 Amendments to Remove from Constitution

Controversy has erupted over a Common Core team assignment at a middle school in Arkansas requiring students to decide which two amendments to remove from the Bill of Rights in the U.S. Constitution.

The assignment from the Bryant School District in Bryant, Ark., titled an “Assessment over The Bill of Rights,” tasked kids with deciding which two amendments in the Bill of Rights have become “outdated,” or have outlived their usefulness and should be removed from the law of the land.

The worksheet presents kids with the premise that there “has been a lot of controversy lately surrounding the War on Terror” and that many Americans feel the Patriot Act is a threat to our privacy and liberty while others feel it helps protect us. Therefore, the worksheet notes, the “government of the United States” has “determined that [The Bill of Rights] is outdated.”

Students are then informed that they have been appointed as a member of the “National Revised Bill of Rights Task Force” and they need to decide which amendments should be eliminated to modify the Constitution to better fit into a new era of massive government surveillance.

Did you think that math was a subject that is by its very nature free of political ideology? Did you think that math was just, well, math? Maybe it won’t surprise you that Chicago teachers union chief, Karen Lewis, disagrees with you and thinks that math isn’t just math but should also be a platform to push left-wing “social justice” propaganda on students.

The rotund Lewis made her pronouncements at an education conference called the Network for Public Education conference held on March 1, 2014 in Austin, Texas.

During her remarks Lewis praised the efforts of extremist left-winger Bob Peterson who is unfortunately in charge of the Milwaukee, Wisconsin teachers union. Peterson wrote a book that is used in the classroom to push left-wing ideology on kids and Lewis thinks everyone should emulate that.

“You want to talk about organizing? You want to talk about social justice?” Lewis bellowed.

Illinois School: Gun Rights Only What Government Allows Them to Be

The U.S. Constitution says that our Second Amendment rights shall not be infringed. That’s pretty straightforward. But a middle school in Illinois has decided that shall not really means that you have no rights unless government says you are allowed to have them.

According to a workbook handout from Grant Middle School in Springfield, Illinois–that happens to be the capital city of the most corrupt state in America–Americans only have Second Amendment rights if they go and “register” with government and if government has decided they are worthy of being allowed those rights. Where I am Quoted in a Book on Islam

March 23, 2014 | Filed Under Books, Education, Islam, Koran, Religion, Warner Todd Huston | Comments Off

-By Warner Todd Huston

OK, here is something odd. I just found out I was quoted in the book “Islam without Extremes: a Muslim case for liberty” by Mustafa Akyol published a few years ago. (Norton Press, 2011)

The book is apparently an attempt to reconcile Islam with western ideals of liberty and freedom.

I found the quote through a review of the book by Gamal Nkrumah of Al-Ahram Weekly, a newspaper from Cairo, Egypt. Nkrumah notes that Akyol quoted me saying this: “We need to understand just how brutal Islam is in how it treats its most vulnerable members: girls and women.” (In Akyol’s book on page 31)

This quote of mine is from an article in which I was discussing the criminal act of female circumcision practiced by Muslims. (Muslim mutilation of little girl in Atlanta, Georgia)

Akyol said I was wrong to put female circumcision on Islam proper because, he says, it is a cultural idea not one prescribed by the Koran. Me, I don’t see a difference because practitioners say they are doing it in the name of Islam and until the practice is stopped (by Muslims) it is a integral part of their religious practices.

Anyway, I found it interesting that I was quoted in this book and that I was wholly unaware of it until now.

I know that I have had my work printed in two college textbooks, but it makes me wonder how many other books I appear in out there?

Not bragging. More like it amuses me.

This story updated HERE.

Yesterday I wrote about how Democrats in Cincinnati threw a big welcome home party for a criminal convicted of vote fraud. Even MSNBC’s Al Sharpton, a man guilty of inciting to murder, came on down to Cincy to celebrate this criminal. Well, now, with the tale of a “queer theory” professor from the U of California who has been charged of physically assaulting a teenaged girl who was protesting abortion, I have yet another story that shows that to be a Democrat/liberal/communist is to be a supporter and promulgator of crime.

To recap, the Cincy story was that of vote fraud criminal Melowese Richardson who was convicted of voting six times in the 2012 elections. Race agitators convinced the state to release this criminal after only a few months in jail because RAAAAAAAACISM. Upon release, local Democrats and national headliners threw a big party for her celebrating her criminality and urging everyone to be juuuuuust like her.

I was noting that even though Democrats are criminals as a matter of course, at least they had the decency in days past to be ashamed of being convicted of some crime or another and acted duly chastised. These days they have no shame whatsoever and actually celebrate their criminal behavior as is obvious by the gala celebration given the Cincy criminal.

Well, this week we se yet another example of this criminality celebrated as all things good and right.

Michigan Teachers Union Wants NO Christian Teachers

The Michigan teachers union apparently doesn’t want any Christian teachers as “non-Christian” teachers are given special consideration for new positions.

The union contract in Ferndale Public Schools in Oakland County, Michigan, specifically stipulates that Christian candidates will be given less consideration than minorities and teachers of other religious convictions.

As Michigan’s Mackinac Center reports, the state’s Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act prohibits discrimination in employment and public services on the basis of religion but the teachers union is essentially breaking that law while pretending to follow it.

The Michigan Education Association is essentially breaking that law with its rules on which teachers will be given consideration for open jobs.

Here is how the MEA’s rule reads:

NY Teachers/Social Workers Save Class From Evil Lego Gun Wielding Kid

The geniuses in the State of New York educational establishment have made schools safe from gun wielding crazies once again by persecuting an evil child who waved a gun in class. What kind of super dangerous gun did the boy have? A one-inch-long Lego toy, naturally.

This is, of course, more stupidity sponsored by one of those pointless “zero tolerance” policies that holds that any “weapon” in class is grounds for severe prosecution of the student violating the policy.

In this case, an 8-year-old boy at an upstate New York grade school was persecuted by officials for wielding the tiny piece of plastic shaped like a gun used for characters in the Lego line of toys. Officials claimed the boy threatened to “shoot” his classmates… with a one-inch-long piece of plastic.

The boy’s “teacher” called both the school principal and the social worker because of this dangerous, dangerous gun.

Despite Leftist Handwringing, Bicycles More Dangerous to Kids Than Guns

Liberals are still wailing about the “danger” our kids face in schools due to guns in the classroom and mass shootings. But even as Bloomberg’s absurd anti-gun group and others act as if we have some national crisis, the reality of it is that bicycles hurt more kids every year than guns, and not by just a little.

Certainly it is appalling if even one child is hurt in school and outrageous if he is hurt with a gun, but before we get all crazed over the “crisis” of guns in school, we need a bit of perspective.

For instance, left-wing Slate magazine noted just after the crime at Sandy Hook Elementary in 2012 that 297 kids had been killed in school shooting between 1980 and 2012.

Again, it is horrid that even one child should be killed at school, but let’s look at just a few other statistics to which to compare that three decades of school shootings.

Fetid Chicago Schools: 11-Year-Old Suspended for Broken Toy Gun

Once again we see the stupidity of the so-called “zero tolerance” policy in our fetid schools with an 11-year-old boy in Chicago who was suspended for voluntarily turning in a broken toy gun to school officials after he remembered he had it in his coat pocket when he got to school.

Chicago’s Frederick Funston Elementary School recently introduced random pat downs of students entering the school with an eye toward stopping weapons from coming into the classroom. So, when sixth grader Caden Cook was waiting in line to get into the school he remembered he had the broken toy gun in his coat pocket and voluntarily turned it in to school authorities.

Being honest was the student’s big mistake. Instead of school officials just taking the little toy and tossing it in the garbage like a sensible adult would do, the boy’s life was turned upside down from multiple attacks at the hands of school administrators incensed that the child dare to break their foolish, illogical “zero tolerance” policy.

In an important decision striking down the votes of the people of Virginia, a Federal Judge proved she didn’t known the difference between the Constitution of the United States and the Declaration of Independence. Thank you liberal educational establishment.

When U.S. District Judge Arenda L. Wright Allen issued her ruling taking away the vote of the people of Virginia and maintaining that the state’s affirmation of traditional, one man-one woman marriage was unconstitutional, she insisted that it was because the U.S. Constitution said that all men were created equal.

Of course, anyone with a fourth grade education knows that it is the not the U.S. Constitution that makes this declaration but is instead the more aptly named Declaration of Independence.

Here is how this “educated” judge began her cliché-laden opinion.

This morning, Senator Kirk Dillard was “especially proud” to accept the endorsement of the Illinois Education Association (IEA) for the GOP nomination for Illinois Governor.

According to IEA president Cinda Klickna Dillard has shown that he values the expertise and opinions of the IEA.

“Sen. Dillard supports our fight for adequate funding for public education and he stood up to tremendous pressure and voted against the unfair and unconstitutional pension bill, Senate Bill 1,” Klickna said during this morning’s press conference.

“Illinois needs a fighter who believes in public schools and that is why IEA is proud to recommend Senator Kirk Dillard for the Republican nomination for governor,” she added.

The IEA is the largest education union in the state with some 130,000 members.

Dillard focused his comments on “the teachers” and education in general, but steered clear of talking about the union itself or the political abuses perpetrated public employees unions in general.

Dwayne Ferguson an African American community activist and vehement anti-gun campaigner who worked tirelessly for New York’s gun grabbing SAFE Act was arrested last week for carrying a concealed weapon into a grade school. He said he “forgot” he had the gun on him and wants to be given a pass on the violation.

Last week, Ferguson, the leader of the extremist anti-gun group MAD DADS, was the cause of a lockdown of Harvey Austin Elementary, in Buffalo, New York. Police responded to a call about a man with a gun on school grounds with their search ending when they found Ferguson’s handgun.

The activist, who helps run an after-school program, was arrested and charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, including having a loaded weapon on school grounds–charges now enhanced by the anti-gun SAFE Act. He could be sentenced to up to four years in prison for the violation.

He pleaded not guilty to the crime saying he should be given a pass because he merely “forgot” that he had his pistol on him and since he has a legal concealed carry permit he thinks he should be let off the hook.

Time to Stop Supporting the Girl Scouts

For a few years now I have been seeing stories about how the Girl Scouts are pushing abortion harder and harder. At first the references to the organization’s campaign in favor of abortion was disparate and isolated. But now that they are pushing for Texas candidate Wendy Davis, it’s finally all too much. It is time to stop supporting the Girl Scouts.

For me, in years past I maintained that you shouldn’t hold the national organization to task for what local groups did. But as the connections mounted year in and year out, it all became too much to ignore. Now, despite what the national organization claims, it is simply impossible to believe that the GS doesn’t materially support abortion quite despite what they claim as an official policy.

Several national pro-life groups have banded together this year to officially boycott the Girl Scouts over its support of abortion, most especially its ties to the baby-killing group Planned Parenthood.

Granted the Girl Scouts claim that their official position on abortion is to have no position on abortion. But the GS’s actions speak to the opposite.

In fact, the GS denies that they have any ties at all to Planned Parenthood. However, they have recently come to tout Texas abortion pusher Wendy Davis as an important “role model” for their girls and have in the past pushed Planned Parenthood leaders and operatives as “role models” for girls to look up to. The GS has also frequently pushed Planned Parenthood resources on their girls.

But to have “no position” would mean to avoid connecting with it pro or con in order to avoid a defacto position through support, yet the GS is thoroughly connected to Planned Parenthood despite the “no position” claim.

America’s Top Colleges Have Done Away With Teaching U.S. History

A new report from Fox News on the trend among liberal arts colleges to drop any requirement that students take U.S. history classes to earn a degree is to me a mixed bag. Sure it is outrageous that our schools are telling students that U.S. history isn’t important, yet, it’s probably good kids aren’t learning the skewed version of U.S. history they’ll likely get from our extremist, left-wing professors who hate this country.

For Fox News, Joshua Rhett Miller notes that U.S. history “doesn’t make the grade” at most of America’s liberal arts colleges. One school even allows students to replace U.S. history with a class called “The Rhetoric of Alien Abduction.”

Of the 29 top-ranked liberal arts colleges, only the United States Air Force Academy, the United States Military Academy, and the United States Naval Academy requires a survey course in American history. One school, Claremont McKenna in California, requires U.S. history or economics but not both. Just two of those institutions require an economics course, and five require a survey course in literature, according to the report.

The report also pointed out that a poll of Americans found that 70 percent feel that colleges should require basic courses in math, science, economics, and U.S. history, yet many don’t.

Five Houston, Texas school bus drivers have been disciplined for supposedly “misusing school equipment” by using bus radios to pray for a co-worker whose daughter was killed by a car as she walked to school.

The five Houston Independent School District bus drivers had “disciplinary letters” placed in their employment files for using a back channel to pray together after another driver’s 12-year-old daughter was run down while walking home from school on December 16, the media reported.

In response to this unfair disciplinary action, several drivers, their union representatives, and local ministers gathered in front of the Houston schools administration building to publicly protest the move and also to publicly pray for a resolution to the situation.

This from a “closeted” gay student in West Monroe, Louisiana who wrote an essay saying how unsafe he feels because of what Robertson said about gays.

After an interview with Robertson went viral, the old media establishment went wild calling his comments “hate speech,” and “anti-gay” and ramping up pressure on the A&E cable network to fire him from his reality show. The mom, Anne Tabat, said she did it to try and reach out to neighbors and be friendly.

Much to Sharpton’s dismay, the nearly 100% African American audience at Sharpton’s townhall roused a protest against former Obama operative and current Chicago Rahm Emanuel and the Democrat aldermen of City Hall for their decades of constant failure.

One 82-year-old area preacher even went so far as to call for tea party-styled meetings in the neighborhoods to address all going wrong in the black neighborhoods of Chicago.
