More condemnation for the vacation trip to Cuba indulged by rapper Jay Z and gal-pal singer Beyonce, this time from Hollywood director Phil Lord–himself the son of a Cuban refugee. Lord thinks that the entertainers were “dupes” of the oppressive Cuban military, that they “don’t care” about the political gulags Cuban dictator Castro built, that they essentially mocked the thousands of Cubans that have been imprisoned and lost their lives in those prisons, and says the pair represent little else but “nihilism with a beat.”
Beyonce and Jay Z celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary in Havana, Cuba, apparently with the blessing of Barack Obama’s administration quite despite that the U.S. still has an official prohibition against Americans visiting the Island nation turned political prison.
Lord told the media that at first he thought that Jay Z and Beyonce just weren’t aware of the oppression of Cuban people. He gave them the benefit of the doubt that they just weren’t aware of the many artists that had been imprisoned and their art banned. But after Jay Z released his song that taunted people opposing Cuba, Lord realized that Shawn Corey “Jay Z” Carter knew exactly what he was doing that that made it all the worse.
The director of such films as 21 Jump Street and Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs is not alone in his condemnation of the Island hopping Carters. AJ Delgado also slammed Jay Z for the trip saying, “Beyoncé and Jay-Z not only legitimize and support the repressive regime, with both their presence and their cash, but turn a blind eye, cruelly, to the perils and languishing of the Cuban people.”

‘Unbearable, Rambling, Tedious’: Daily Beast Slams Sean Penn’s ‘Journalism’

Right of center Americans have been ridiculing the vacuity of Sean Penn for years but he’s had his critics on the left as well and the Daily Beast recently joined that small group of left-wing sources critical of Penn with a devastating piece lambasting Penn’s pretensions at being a social commentator and journalist.
There is no doubt that Penn is a skilled actor. He’s turned out some wonderful performances over the years and deserves acclaim for it. But his penchant to support murderers, oppressors, and dictators makes of him a clown of the first order in his off-screen life.
For the left-leaning Daily Beast, Michael Moynihan was sharply critical of both Penn’s self-assigned label of journalist and his cozying up to oppressive dictators and did so in no uncertain terms at that.
Of Penn’s bloviating as a self-proclaimed journalist, Moynihan was unsparing.

Why are a pair of foreign terrorists sitting in a jail in Kentucky? That’s what Senate GOP Minority Leader Mitch McConnell wants to know. He wants them sent to the facilities at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where they belong.
Why is the Justice Department doing this? Why expose our heartland to these monsters?

In letter to Skelton, Schilling opposes new provision in House defense bill that could bring terrorists to our soil
EAST MOLINE, IL–Congressman-elect Bobby Schilling has released the following statement in regard to a new provision in the House defense bill that could bring terrorists to the United States:
“Ike Skelton and Nancy Pelosi have buried a provision in the Defense Authorization Bill that could bring al-Qaeda terrorists to the United States. This is unacceptable. The American people fired Ike Skelton and Nancy Pelosi for these radical, out of touch policies that put Americans in danger. I strongly oppose transferring Guantanamo detainees to The United States and especially any attempt to place them in Illinois, as has been proposed. I support Senator Mark Kirk’s decision to put this bill on hold if it reaches the Senate with the terrorist transfer provision. And, once I assume my position on the House Armed Services Committee, I will fight any attempt to house terrorists on American soil.”

From the office of Congressman-Elect Joe Walsh (8th District)…
Today Rep.-elect Joe Walsh made the following statement regarding the Obama Administration’s plans to import Guantanamo Bay terrorists to Illinois:
“It is imperative that terrorists from Guantanamo Bay not be brought to Illinois. Such action would pose a grave national security threat and create unnecessary challenges in the war against Al Qaeda. As the only member from Illinois serving on the Committee on Homeland Security, I will make this one of my top priorities on the committee.”

About that first woman executed in US in 5 years…

OK, the story is all over the Old Media edifice: forty-one-year-old Teresa Lewis has become “the first woman to be executed in the U.S. in five years.”
Every news outlet from TV and cable, to newspapers, to radio, to the Internet is using this line, this “the first woman to be executed in the U.S. in five years” line. They are all playing the same narrative.
So, here’s the question I have. How exactly can anyone be the “first” anything “in five years”? Doesn’t the whole “in five years” presuppose that someone else came first? See, the one “five years” ago was at the very least the real first one, not the one that came today. And in this case, the real “fist” woman executed came over a hundred years ago.
See that woman was Lincoln assassination conspirator Mary Surratt. And that is only the “official” version of events because one could easily count those women hanged for being witches in the famed Salem Witch Trials way back in the 1600s (though this country wasn’t quite “the United States” yet, granted).
Why, then, is this language being used? Why so that this murderer’s execution somehow sounds like a bad thing, that’s why. If we say “the first one in five years,” we make it all seem so outrageous, so shocking. And that heightened emotion is applied to the execution making many people feel that it is somehow untoward.

Congress Says There’ll Be No Illinois Gitmo

In an interesting development the House Armed Services Committee unanimously approved of legislation that would block Gitmo, Illinois from coming to fruition. In fact, they’ve blocked any Gitmo terrorist from being transferred anywhere into the interior of the USA. This is a blow to Obama’s desires to shut Gitmo down and to bring terrorists to a prison near you.
Wednesday the committee approved a defense bill for 2011 that includes language to prevent moving detainees into any US facility inside our borders and also blocked any funding to even study the possibility.

Actress Maria Conchita Alonso Smacks Down Useful Idiot, Sean Penn

Sean Penn is a bona fide useful idiot, we all know. He doesn’t have two synapses to rub together, it is obvious. Unfortunately, though, his every utterance is reported widely by the star-struck media no matter how stupid he is. Lately his foolishness has turned toward supporting one of the worst dictators in the world, Hugo Chavez. While sentient people understand that Penn is a grad “A” moron, the fact that he has such a public platform his blather does need to be countered effectively.
In pursuit of countering a useful Hollyweird idiot, a level-headed celebrity actress has come forward to slap down this infant tyro, Penn. Actress Maria Conchita Alonso has penned an open letter to the king of idiots and it’s a good one.
Dear Sean, WHY?
Even though I have great respect for your artistic talent, I was appalled by a recent television interview where you vigorously showed support for the regime of Hugo Chavez. Therefore, I’ve decided to set the record straight for you regarding the Chavez regime, supporting my case based not only on my political ideologies, but on proven facts you choose to ignore. Otherwise, I believe your position would be different.
Being born in Cuba, a country where freedom of speech is non-existent, it’s startling to observe how Venezuela, where I was happily raised, is fast becoming Cuba’s mirror image: Dismantling of fundamental democratic rights deserved by its people and citizens of the world.
Here’s A Deal With Cuba I Endorse

There hasn’t been much news about it in the U.S. but an American citizen has been arrested by Cuban authorities and has been placed in one of Cuba’s most secure facilities.
Cuba has yet to announce what charges they are leveling against the man but he was arrested after he gave out laptop computers, cellphones and other communication equipment to Cuba’s beleaguered citizens. The Cuban government claims these items are against the law for its citizens to own because it “subverts” government authority.
The American was a contractor for Development Alternatives, Inc. a company that has worked for the State Department since 2008 and is part of a Cuban democracy project that has received some $40 million in federal aid.
U.S. officials have been quiet on the matter and have yet to make too many demands of the Cuban government for this man’s release. They aren’t even releasing his name to us.
