It looks like the Sunday morning political shows got the same memo that Immigration is the topic of the day for April 7.

The big three networks and CNN are all hosting guests that certainly lean toward amnesty for illegals if not out right in support of the same.

CBS’ Face the Nation

  • Sen. John McCain (R-AZ)
  • Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY)
  • Madeleine Albright, former Secretary of State

NBC’s Meet the Press

  • Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC)
  • Bill Richardson, former U.N. Ambassador and New Mexico governor (D)
  • Michele Flournoy, former Undersecretary of Defense for Policy

ABC’s Latest Misleading Gun Poll

March 18, 2013 | Filed Under 2nd Amendment, ABC, Constitution, Democrats/Leftists, Ethics, Government, Gun Control, Guns, Journalism, Media, Media Bias, President, Regulation, Warner Todd Huston | 5 Comments

-By Warner Todd Huston

ABC has released the results of another gun poll claiming that support for background checks at gun shows has “vast public support.” But neither the poll nor ABC’s report notes that background checks already routinely occur at gun shows.

The poll focused on the various gun control bills currently coursing through Congress with one question asking whether or not respondents support “requiring background checks on people buying guns at gun shows.”

Pointing out that Congress is considering a bill (S. 436) that would expand background checks, ABC reports that “a nearly unanimous 91 percent favor mandatory background checks on gun show sales.”

This question pertains to the so-called “gun show loophole” and misleads people into imagining that background checks are not required at gun shows simply because they are gun shows. The fact is, though, that every licensed gun dealer is required to perform background checks on every gun sale whether he sells his wares at a gun show or from his own shop.

In other words, the gun show itself has nothing to do with this issue.

Joy Behar Leaves ABC’s ‘The View’

Joy Behar, one of the original couch members of ABC’s late morning gabfest, The View, has confirmed that she is leaving the long-running show.

Billed as a comedienne when she first hit The View’s couch 16 and 1/2 years ago, Behar livened the show with her progressive perspective and sharp tongue.

Aside from Barbra Walters, the show’s originator, Behar is the show’s last remaining original cast member.

Behar will finish out this season before she moves of to “other things” that she has wanted to do.

“You reach a point when you say to yourself, ‘Do I want to keep doing this?’ There are other things on my plate I want to do–I’ve been writing a play, I’ve been neglecting my standup,” Behar said Thursday in an interview posted at Deadline.com.

Minn. TV News Ignores Facts: Muslims Attacked Christian Church Meeting

A Minnesota TV news story perpetrated a perfect example of one-sided “news” coverage especially where it concerns the politically correct treatment of two, innocent, doe-eyed Muslims who, gosh darn it, just want to be loved like you and me. Naturally, the TV station does not report the truth that the two Muslims they laud actually infiltrated a meeting at a Christian church in order to attack a guest and disparage Christians.

An Assembly of God Church in Perham, Minnesota, invited well-known critic of radical Islam, Walid Shoebat, to speak about the evils of radical Islam and two Muslim exchange students decided to attend to confront Mr. Shoebat on his “lies” about Islam.

ABC TV affiliate, WDAY Channel 6 News (in nearby Fargo, ND) reported the incident saying that these innocent young foreigners–here in America on a student foreign exchange program–attended the church merely to hear the speaker and when they asked an innocent question, why these innocent young innocents were cast bodily out of the church by the evil, evil, racist Christians just for daring to ask their innocent questions.

Bashing Benedict: Networks Slam Retiring Pope

A new study by the Culture and Media Institute of Pope Benedict’s retirement reveals constant attacks, ridicule, and repeated allusions to scandals as ABC, CBS, and NBC reported on Benedict’s final days.

The survey reveals that the Catholic Church was repeatedly deemed “troubled,” the Church was attacked for not “modernizing,” the real-world Church was constantly compared to the fictitious world of novelist Dan Brown and his Da Vinci Code series of books, and late night TV hosts turned Benedict into a butt of jokes.

On February 11, Pope Benedict announced his retirement due to ill health setting off the big three networks into attack mode.

“From Benedict’s Feb. 11 resignation through the evening of Feb. 27, the day before it took effect, the networks referred to the Catholic Church as a troubled institution 122 times and aired the word ‘scandal’ 87 times in 112 reports. Anchors and reporters suggested that the Church must modernize (32 times) and pressed for change in issues regarding women (7 times) and gays (13 times). At times, they trivialized the first resignation of a Pope since the 1500s as ‘worthy of a Dan Brown novel’ (ABC’s Harris again.) and sensationalized it by entertaining theories about other reasons Benedict might be stepping down.”

On the lighter side, over the two-week period, network morning shows continuously aired jokes about Benedict staged by late night comedy shows such as Jimmy Fallon, David Letterman and Conan O’Brien.

When Indicted, Networks Barely Mentioned Jesse Jackson, Jr’s Misuse of $750,000 in Campaign Cash

A survey of news coverage by the big three networks of the indictment of former Chicago Democrat Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr. was sparse to non-existent for the first three days after the indictment was made public. Even when his trouble was reported, the fact that he is a Democrat went unmentioned.

Jackson was indicted on Friday, February 15, but as Friday, then the weekend rolled on, the big three networks didn’t seem much interested in covering the story. In fact, a survey of the coverage found that the big nets gave the story scant attention that Friday and, while there were a few ultra short reports on the indictment on Saturday, there was no coverage at all on Sunday.

On Friday, for instance, NBC’s Nightly News gave the story short attention. By Saturday, Good Morning America gave the story a whole 18 seconds. Worse, even when the network news shows did report the story on Saturday evening, Jackson’s party affiliation was never mentioned.

Interestingly, not one of the Sunday morning politics shows mentioned the indictment at all.

Big Three Nets Slant Overwhelmingly For Obama’s Gun Ban Campaign

A new study of coverage by the big three networks of President Obama’s anti-gun crusade shows an overwhelmingly positive slant toward the President’s policy ideas at an 8 to 1 ratio.

The study conducted by the Media Research Center reviewed coverage from December 14 to January 17, or from the day of the crime at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut, to the day after Obama made a speech surrounded by children who purportedly sent him letters pleading for more gun control. MRC reviewed the evening newscasts as well as the three networks’ morning shows.

The results showed that stories that pushed for more gun control vastly outnumbered stories that opposed gun control by 99 to 12, or a ratio of 8 to 1.

ABC Ignores Tim Scott’s Senate Appointment in Dec., By Jan. Hails Mo Cowan’s as ‘History’

In December, ABC’s World News saw no news at all in the historic appointment of African American Tim Scott to the Senate in South Carolina. No mention was made of it during the broadcast.

Only a month later, though, the same program suddenly hailed African American William “Mo” Cowan’s appointment to the Senate as history making.

When Republican Tim Scott was appointed to fill retiring Senator Jim DeMint’s Senate seat he became the first African American from South Carolina to be sent to the Senate since 1881. Further, when he took his seat he was the only black Senator from either party in Washington D.C. But despite all these notable historic facts, ABC’s World News never mentioned Scott’s appointment.

However, this month when the Governor of Massachusetts appointed African American, Democrat Mo Cowan to finish out John Kerry’s term, ABC suddenly found it to be a moment worthy of coverage.

The inordinate praise for now former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has been thick throughout the media, but no other coverage was more obsequious than ABC’s. Cynthia McFadden topped off this praise by comparing Clinton to no less than Thomas Jefferson.

On the January 30 broadcast of Nightline, McFadden spoke to Clinton in what was billed as her “last television interview in office.” The interview was conducted in front of a statue of Thomas Jefferson and at one point in the interview McFadden effusively equated Clinton to Jefferson. Motioning toward the statue of the founder, McFadden said, “As Jefferson looks over our shoulder, who I would only point out, was Secretary of State who went on to become president.”

ABC’s Matthew Dowd: All Solutions are ‘Right Down the Middle’

December 29, 2012 | Filed Under ABC, Anti-Americanism, Budget, Democrats/Leftists, Ethics, Government, Journalism, Liberals, Media, Media Bias, President, Progressives, Taxes, Warner Todd Huston | Comments Off

-By Warner Todd Huston

On ABC’s, This Week With George Stephanopoulos for December 23, ABC political analyst Matthew Dowd uttered one of those phrases that always sounds nice, but is ultimately meaningless. Unfortunately, it is a phrase one hears all the time uttered by those low information-types in our political discussions.

During the panel discussion on the fiscal cliff, Dowd unleashed the rote claim that all good things for the nation are “right down the middle,” essentially claiming that compromise for the sake of compromise is the only real solution to anything in Washington.

The way out ultimately has to be right down the middle, right down the middle where there’s a series of compromises. Every good leadership is about both conservative ideas and progressive ideas we have to move forward we have to move forward in the future and also have to conserve the ideas and thoughts that actually are helpful to the country. Leadership is about both of those ideas.

This is a rote claim that isn’t necessarily a truism. For instance, Congress spent the first 70 years of our existence as a nation trying to go “right down the middle” on slavery. Neither one side nor the other made headway on the issue. It eventually led to civil war and the deaths of some 650,000 Americans! That “right down the middle” effort wasn’t so great for the country, was it Mr. Dowd?

The point is that being “right down the middle” is no panacea. There is a great quote about this sort of thinking. Jules Henri Poincaré once wrote, “To doubt everything or to believe everything are two equally convenient solutions; both dispense with the necessity of reflection.” This bogus claim that the only thing that works is “right down the middle,” dispenses with having to think about what either the left or the right is saying and instead to just assume mere compromise is always the right answer.

Sam Donaldson Speaks for Minorities: ‘It’s OUR Country Now!’

Long-time ABC News correspondent Sam Donaldson has a message for “The Tea Party.” He wants them to know it isn’t their country anymore.

That is what he said on the Chris Matthews Sunday Show on December 23, anyway. Not only did Donaldson tell “The Tea Party” that they should be gotten “rid of,” but it appeared that he was deigning to speak for minorities on top of it. Yes, an old white guy presuming to speak for minorities.

The minorities re-elected president Obama, but I’m going with Katty. It’s the Tea Party and thinking of the Tea Party and people like that that are driving the Republicans out of contention as a national party. You cannot win nationally if you don’t know something about the way the country’s changed, and the Tea Party seems to think the country can go back 25 or 30 years. The greatest slogan that I hated during this last campaign was “We want to take back our country.” Guys, it’s not your country anymore – it’s our country and you’re part of it, but that thinking is going to defeat Republicans nationally if they don’t get rid of it.

So, to recap: Tea Partiers should stop imagining it is their country because it is the minorities’ country and Tea Partiers should be gotten rid of. Isn’t it great when “reporters” don’t pick sides and just report the news?

Merry Christmas and Happy New Years, America.

Donaldson was last in the news for having been arrested for drunk driving in Delaware. Maybe he was still drunk at the taping of the Matthews show?

Appointment of Only African American Senator Unmentioned by ABC, CBS

On Monday, South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley announced that she was appointing U.S. Congressman Tim Scott to the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Jim DeMint. When he is sworn in on January 3, Scott will be the lone African American of either party in the Senate but this historic news didn’t seem to interest ABC or CBS as neither mentioned the news that night.

Unsurprisingly, both ABC and CBS had segments on gun control during their respective Monday, December 17 broadcasts. But not a word about Senator to be Tim Scott was uttered.

One would think that the “diversity” of this story alone would be of interest to the big networks. After all, we have a female Governor who is the daughter of Sikh immigrants appointing the only African American to the Senate. We also have a Senate seat that is famed for having once been occupied by Strom Thurmond, a one-time Dixiecrat, segregationist turned repentant Republican. And we have the first black Senator from a southern state since Blanche Bruce of Mississippi in 1881. This is almost “diversity” overload.

Perhaps one mitigating factor for the old networks is that all of this “diversity” was wrought by Republicans?

Deep Discussion: Barbara Walters Calls Chris Christie Fat, Slams Patraeus, Praises Hillary in Interview ‘Special’

Once again cultural lightweight Barbara Walters splashed across ABC with another one of her year-end Most Fascinating People interview extravaganzas. This time she enriched the public debate by talking about Chris Christie’s weight, tsk tsking David Patreaus and skipping the hard questions to slobber over Hillary Clinton and urge her to run for President. Cutting edge stuff.

In her segment with New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, for instance, Walters spends the interview needling him on getting his own supporters mad for his blubbering embrace of President Obama who’s response to Hurricane Sandy sent the Governor into loving rhetoric just before the late election. Walters also brought up the important issue of Christie’s weight wondering if he was too fat to be a successful politician.

Calling her, “One of the most acclaimed Secretaries of State in modern history,” in her interview with Hillary, Walters skipped all those tough questions about Benghazi and instead star gazed into Hillary’s eyes and dreamily asked if she’ll run for president.

What was another one of Walters’ important questions to Hillary? “Your hair,” Walters said, before launching into and important, in depth discussion about Hillary’s coif. No, really.

Naturally, Walters went into former General David Petraeus and his year end troubles because he had a scandalous end to a once lustrous career. So, Walters spent her whole segment looking down her nose at the General.

Twitter Suggests White House is Just Like Left-Wing Commentators Sullivan, Krugman, Cuomo

Daniel Halper recently discovered that Twitter wanted to help him out. After he chose to follow the Twitter feed of the White House, Twitter sent him a list of other accounts he might enjoy, accounts that the social media giant felt were “similar” to Barak Obama’s White House. Amusingly that list was filled with left-wing media types.

When Mr. Halper decided to follow the Twitter feed of the White House, Twitter quickly sent him an automatically generated email with some loverly suggestions. Now that he was following the White House, Twitter thought he might be interested in the following “similar” Twitter feeds:

  • Left-wing newspaper The Washington Post
  • Leftist Atlantic blogger Andrew Sullivan
  • Far left “economist” Paul Krugman
  • NBC News “First Read” blog
  • ABC News Chief Legal Correspondent Chris Cuomo

Quipped Halper, “Looks like Twitter’s algorithm, which appears to have automatically generated this email, is working perfectly.”

Just so.

As we reported in September, long-time morning host Matt Lauer has seemingly worn out his welcome at NBC’s Today show. TV insiders are saying the $21.5 million-a-year Lauer is soon to be fired.

We noted last September that Lauer’s “Q Score,” an industry popularity rating, had collapsed after NBC’s mishandling of former Today co-host Ann Curry’s firing. Lauer’s off camera treatment of the woman was perceived by many to be one of the reasons Curry was dumped only a year after she took on co-host duties of the once most popular morning show.

Apparently, former ABC News reporter Carol Simpson is a disgruntled debate moderator. In an interview conducted after the recent 2012 debate, Simpson claimed that she was relegated to being the “Oprah” of moderators. Further, she asserted that women are discriminated against as debate moderators. She was even unhappy that they made her wear high-heeled shoes when she moderated the 1992 debates.

In the interview conducted by Chicago Magazine, Simpson rated Candy Crowley’s performance and talked of her own night decades ago as a debate moderator.

Unsurprisingly, Simpson thought Crowley did a “fabulous job.” Amusingly, she almost seemed to say that maybe Crowley was taking her safety into her own hands because Romney and Obama might have “come to blows” on that stage.

George Will: Second Presidential Debate ‘Immeasurably the Best’ In History

George Will made a relatively quixotic proclamation immediately after the second presidential debate held at Hofstra University in New York. First of all, he thought the debate was “immeasurably the best” in American presidential debate history. Just as quixotically, Will declared Obama the big winner of the night.

Will made these statements on ABC News in the wrap up discussion after the debates.

Of course, Will was correct with his opening line. Obama did retake ground that he lost with his base because of his pitiful performance in the first debate. But that arguably did not advance his cause. After all, we are less than 20 days out from the election. If all Obama could do in this debate is begin to bring his base back into the fold, that is bad news for Obama, indeed. This close to Election Day he should be making his best appeal to the middle and the undecided voters. But there he was still trying to reel in his base. How Will could call that a victory is anyone’s guess.

ABC’s George Stephanopoulos is doing his part for team Obama to make sure that Mitt Romney’s performance at Wednesday evening’s debate is a disappointment, one that will surely lead to his losing the election in November.

On Tuesday morning’s Good Morning America Stephy sternly warned that if Romney doesn’t exceed expectations in the debates, he’s finished.

Why? Because Romney is under “huge, huge” pressure, Stephanopoulos says. Also because “he’s behind right now” and, obviously, if he doesn’t over perform, why he’ll be considered a failure.

There is always pressure to perform well at debates, granted, but what George Stephanopoulos is trying to do here is set up expectations of a great, sweeping Romney debate victory, one he couldn’t possibly live up to. Stephy hopes to damage Romney’s performance in the minds of ABC’s viewers before he even steps one foot on the stage on Wednesday.

Apparently, Late-night comedian Conan O’Brien thinks asking the President of the United States a serious question is something to ridicule. Or maybe it wasn’t the question, but just the fact that it was a well-known conservative that posed the rather inoffensive query.

As President Obama has allowed but one puffball interview after another, avoiding all the serious questions he can, he was nonetheless asked a rather mild, but serious question by Elisabeth Hasselbeck of ABC’s The View.

But the gall of someone actually asking a serious question of the President was too much for O’Brien to bear.

Every once in a while the Old Media takes a jab at their most favorite president of all time and Obama’s decision to skip any meetings with the world leaders that are gathering at the UN this week seems to be one of those times.

Just to name a few, Chuck Todd of MSNBC, CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, ABC’s Jake Tapper, and the CBS Evening News all took swipes at the president for doing campaign stops, TV entertainment shows, and softball interviews instead of doing his job as our nation’s chief foreign policy representative by meeting with the world leaders who are this week visiting New York at the United Nations.

CBS slapped Obama saying “diplomacy gets a backseat to campaigning” on Monday in a piece by Nancy Cordes.

Noting that last year Obama conducted “13 one-on-one meetings with major leaders,” this year not so much.

Heartbreak: Obama Disses White House Press Corps

The sycophantic press has once again been given the back of The One’s hand as the President took time out from his busy schedule of golf and fundraisers to give some interviews to the entertainment press, all the while ignoring the White House press corps with whom he hasn’t spoken in more than two months.

Several conservative voices have wondered why the President has been skipping the press for weeks now and finally someone in the world of “real” journalism has begun to carp about the lack of interaction with the President. After Obama took pufball interviews with Entertainment Tonight and People Magazine, ABC’s Jake Tapper could take it no more.

Tapper says the President is “dissing the White House press corps” even while taking non-confrontational interviews with the entertainment press and small local affiliates while on the campaign trail.

The last time Obama gave the WH press corps the opportunity to ask him some questions was when he took a grand total of six questions from them in June.

Big Three Networks Ignoring Lie-Filled Obama Ad Portraying Romney as Murderer

For two straight days, now, neither ABC, CBS, nor NBC have bothered to mention the roiling controversy over the lie-filled ad that Obama’s Super PAC put out intimating that Mitt Romney killed a steel worker’s wife. The ad is being called the nastiest, most misleading ad of this election cycle by newspapers, talk radio and even the cable news stations — CNN and MSNBC both, yet — but thus far the big three are ignoring the whole story.

Despite the growth of the Internet and cable news, more Americans still get their news from the three traditional TV networks and these organizations are run almost exclusively by liberals, so it isn’t too surprising that none of them seem willing to report the truth about this despicable Obama ad. It is, however, still a breach of their responsibilities not to report the news of the day.

The cable stations, on the other hand, have been eviscerating Bill Burton, the spokesman for Obama’s super PAC Priorities USA Action, over the obvious lies in his campaign ad.

ABC News is at it again, misidentifying a mass murder as part of the “right” in America today. And, naturally, it was Brian Ross who did the dirty deed claiming the man responsible for killing several Sikh temple goers in Wisconsin is a member of the “right-wing.”

Ross appeared on ABC on the morning of August 7 to say that shooter Wade Michael Page has “links to these right-wing, neo-Nazi groups.”

The left has succeeded for years linking conservatives and people on the American right to the Nazis by claiming they are all “right-wingers.” But the claim is simply untrue.

It should be remembered that Hitler’s Party was called the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei which in English means the National Socialist German Workers’ Party. Yes, that’s right, socialist.

ABC News Chief: Our Colorado Coverage Was Great… Except for That Brian Ross Business

ABC News President Ben Sherwood held a conference call of staffers on July 24 and told them that he felt his network’s coverage of the shooting at a Colorado theater was topnotch work, well, except for that whole smearing of the Tea Party indulged by ABC News chief investigative reporter Brian Ross, that is.

Only hours after the shooting occurred, Brian Ross took to an ABC news broadcast to announce that he’d found a man with a similar name as the shooter’s on a Colorado Tea Party site thereby illicitly linking this innocent man and the Tea Party to the mass murderer. Calls for Ross to be fired over his lack of journalistic ethics have been heating up the Internet and talk radio airwaves ever since giving ABC a black eye.

But this week, on a daily morning editorial conference call participated in by top staffers across the country, Sherwood praised his team on its coverage of the shooting in Colorado. Even so he was forced to admit that the unproven allegations made by Ross that the murderer *might* be a member of a Colorado Tea Party group hurt the network’s credibility.

After Days Big Networks/CNN Finally Notice Obama’s ‘You Didn’t Build That’ Remarks

Strangely enough it took four to five long days for CNN and the big three networks to notice that Obama told his audience at a Virginia campaign rally that business owners and other successful Americans aren’t responsible for their own success. Worse, it took advisors for Mitt Romney to comment before these news organizations deigned to report on the incident.

In Roanoke, Virginia on Friday, July 13, the President said to business owners, “If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen,” causing an uproar on both sides of the aisle as Republicans expressed shock at Obama’s comments and liberals defended the President’s anti-business remarks.

Obama’s off-script comments, alternately considered a gaffe and his true feelings emerging, quickly became the talk of the Internet and talk radio. But ABC, CBS, NBC, and CNN don’t seem to have uttered a word about the controversy until days later.

From the mouth of Jimmy Kimmel, the late night comedian that said it was impossible to make fun of President Obama because he was too “cool,” comes the hilarity that Sarah Palin is a “crazy moose lady.” This was so hilarious that CBS This Morning had to replay it hours later on its morning show.

Not only did Kimmel slam Palin — who really has not been much in the news of late and is not a factor in this presidential campaign — he also used his joke to slam GOP candidate Mitt Romney as somehow worse than Palin, a claim that no one is making, not even Obama’s people. This shows how extreme Kimmel is, really.

Adding to a news account of Mitt Romney’s release of tax returns during his 2008 run for the GOP nomination, Kimmel joked, “Romney actually did back in 2008. McCain took one look at him and said, you know what? I’m going with the crazy moose lady instead.”

The awful crime in Colorado was only hours old when Brian Ross, a so-called “journalist” from ABC News, immediately began to politicize the shooting attempting to blame the crime on the Tea Party, conservatives, Republicans, and anyone from the right side of the political aisle with whom he disagrees quite despite the fact that he really had no information that might point to his political enemies.

On ABC’s Good Morning America, anchor George Stephanolpoulos took a “report” from ABC’s Chief Investigator Brian Ross who was supposedly investigating the crime. Here is what Ross said,

There’s a Jim Holmes of Aurora, Colorado, page on the Colorado Tea party site as well, talking about him joining the Tea Party last year. Now, we don’t know if this is the same Jim Holmes. But it’s Jim Holmes of Aurora, Colorado.

First of all the name James Holmes is not a very exotic name. Many, many James Holmes live in the Aurora area. A quick search of the White Pages online finds at least five James Holmeses in Aurora and at least a half dozen in Denver and over thirty in the state.

Yet, Brian Ross immediately stampedes to a Colorado Tea Party webpage in hopes of finding the name James Holmes, then, finding one, he runs to the camera to blame the Tea party without taking even a second to ascertain if the James Holmes on the Tea Party website is, or even could be the Colorado theater murderer.

This is how the left-wing, anti-American, anti-truth Old Media works. Lies pass for “facts,” political agendas replace the news, and hate for anything they disagree with guides their every thought and action. You go out, you lie about your enemies allowing the narrative to take hold in order to hurt your political opposites, then, when it inevitably turns out that your supposition is wrong, you put a “correction” somewhere in the back of a newspaper where no one will ever see it. Your lies are now out there and believed by many apparently to spite the truth. That is how Democrats and the left work.

Ratings Smackdown: Savannah Guthrie’s ‘Today’ Debut Beat by ‘GMA’

-By Warner Todd Huston

This week ABC’s morning show, Good Morning America, had it’s best Monday morning ratings in the 25-54 demo since 2006. Significantly, this same Monday was the official debut morning of Savannah Guthrie as the official new co-host of NBC’s Today,

Today is usually the morning ratings powerhouse and Guthrie has had a week already to impress viewers, but apparently she has yet to make the case.

Guthrie had been “filling in” for fired co-host Ann Curry for the past week, but this Monday was her official debut as Matt Lauer’s co-host. Despite the special occasion, Today lost its usual dominance of the morning ratings game.

Colorado County Officials: ABC Took Colorado Fires/Terrorism Comments Out of Context

July 3, 2012 | Filed Under ABC, Colorado, Democrats/Leftists, Ethics, Journalism, Liberals, Media, Media Bias, Warner Todd Huston | Comments Off

-By Warner Todd Huston

On June 28, Undersheriff Paula Presley of El Paso County, Colorado was interviewed by ABC News’ Alex Perez. After that interview aired, government officials say ABC News took comments out of context and falsely made it seem as if the Undersheriff was saying the massive Colorado forest fires were a result of terrorist arsonists.

The segment that appeared on ABC World News with Diane Sawyer, misled viewers into imagining that the fires were started by arsonists when no determination has yet been made about how the fires started.

As Anchor Sawyer opened the segment, she said, “Tonight ABC News has learned that arson could be to blame.”

Reporter Perez then went on to say, “The FBI and local authorities have yet to pinpoint what started the wild fire, but in an exclusive interview the county undersheriff tells us investigators believe this was arson.”

The report then showed Undersheriff Presley walking with reporter Perez and saying, “this in many ways is a type of terrorism where somebody is trying to destroy you know, an entire city, essentially.”
