Feds File ‘Hate Crime’ Charges Citing Suspect’s Confederate Flag Tattoo as Evidence of Race Hate

-By Warner Todd Huston

Federal prosecutors filed “hate crime” charges against an Ohio man for beating a black man citing the suspect’s Confederate flag tattoo as evidence of his racial animus towards blacks, a report says.

The federal complaint filed in Toledo, Ohio, charges 33-year-old Charles Butler with a hate crime in the beating of African American Adrian Williams, 46. Butler, the filing says, is a racist who hates blacks because he has numerous tattoos of Nazi symbols and Confederate flags, according to TheSmokingGun website.

Vanita Gupta, head of the Justice Department’s civil rights division, said in the court filing that Butler and his accomplice, 25-year-old Robert Paschalis, were “white supremacists” and cited Butler’s Nazi-image-strewn Facebook page as evidence. She also pointed to Butler’s many tattoos to prove his racist intentions in the attack.

One Day Before More Officers Killed, New Black Panther Party Started Baton Rouge Chapter

-By Warner Todd Huston

Only a day before three police officers were shot and killed in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, reports circulated that the militant New Black Panther Party started up a new chapter in the city.

On Saturday, July 16, members of the militant group arrived in Baton Rouge to help lead a Black Lives Matter protest against police officers over the video taped shooting death of Alton Sterling. While in the town Panther representatives announced that local African American activists had asked to form a new chapter there.

“It is time for new leadership and a new organization to step forward in Baton Rouge,” local activist Edwin Smith said according to WBRZ. “I feel like the New Black Panther Party is the organization that can bring new leadership to Baton Rouge.”

Jerald Justice, one of the NBPP who arrived in Baton Rough to lead the protest affirmed that the group was working with Smith and other locals to launch the new chapter.

Black Males More Likely to Kill Police Than to be Killed By Police

Black Males More Likely to Kill Police Than to be Killed By Police

-By Warner Todd Huston

The nation awoke to the murder of five police officers by sniper fire during a Black Lives Matter protest in Dallas, Texas, after President Obama spoke out on the earlier shootings of two black men by police in two different states. With these incidents in the news attention is once again turned to the strained relations between police and the community. But the evidence shows that police have far more to fear from African American males than the reverse.

In her new book, “The War On Cops,” author Heather MacDonald reveals FBI data showing that police officers are 18.5 times more likely to be killed by a black man than black men are of being killed by a cop. MacDonald also reports that 40 percent of all cop killers are black men. These statistics seem to prove that police have far more to fear from black males than black males have to fear at the hands of police

To be sure MacDonald’s findings are at odds with the Black Lives Matter movement and even recent comments by President Obama.

In the afternoon of July 7 after news engulfed America that two young black men were killed by police, one in Louisiana and another in Minnesota, President Obama released a statement lamenting the shootings saying “all Americans should be troubled” by the two shootings.

NOT a Victim: The Story of the Armed Black Man Stopped by Cops and WHY He DIDN’T Go to Jail

NOT a Victim: The Story of the Armed Black Man Stopped by Cops and WHY He DIDN’T Go to Jail

-By Warner Todd Huston

Everyday the liberal, old media establishment search for stories of black men illicitly accosted by our “raaaaacist” law enforcement community. So, you probably won’t hear this story of the armed African American who had an out-of-date driver’s license and other violations and was stopped by police but wasn’t arrested, or beaten up, or killed.

The story comes from the Facebook posting of a fellow named Steven Hildreth, Jr., an African American who wanted to tell the whole world about his encounter with the Tucson, Arizona police department.

But, unlike so many others looking to score big in the racebaiting industry, Mr. Hildreth didn’t post his story to call raaaacism, or attack our men in blue. In fact, Hildreth not only had the opposite message, but he even had a moral to pass on for why he wasn’t beaten up or harassed by police even though he was an armed black man who had some registration violations.

In fact, I’m not going to even rewrite his story. Here it is as he posted it on October 27:

So, I’m driving to my office to turn in my weekly paperwork. A headlight is out. I see a Tucson Police Department squad vehicle turn around and follow me. I’m already preparing for the stop.

The lights go on and I pull over. The officer asks me how I’m doing, and then asks if I have any weapons.

“Yes, sir. I’m a concealed carry permit holder and my weapon is located on my right hip. My wallet is in my back-right pocket.”

The officer explains for his safety and mine, he needs to disarm me for the stop. I understand, and I unlock the vehicle. I explain that I’m running a 7TS ALS holster but from the angle, the second officer can’t unholster it. Lead officer asks me to step out, and I do so slowly. Officer relieves me of my Glock and compliments the X300U I’m running on it. He also sees my military ID and I tell him I’m with the National Guard.

There Is No Reason The Environmental Protection Agency Needs Military Weaponry

-By Warner Todd Huston

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is a perfect example of an agency that needs to be cut back, defunded, and dis-empowered. A recent examination of its budget shows that it has spent tens of millions on assembling its own private army replete with aircraft, machine guns, body armor, and tanks not to mention money wasted helping foreigners push “global warming” and unnecessary “grants” given to partisan, left-wing groups to push so-called “environmental justice.”

Open the Books, a watchdog group out of Illinois run by Adam Andrzejewski, has released an oversight report showing the waste, fraud, and abuse endemic in the EPA and proves that this agency is ripe for reform.

“Our report discovered that when the EPA comes knocking they are armed with a thousand lawyers, arrest/criminal data, credit, business and property histories, plus a ‘Special Agent’ with the latest in weaponry and technology,” Open The Books notes.

Each of these so-called “special agents” cost the American Taxpayer $216,000 per year, the report finds.

Now, before we get further into the utter waste and illicit spending on itself, we need to also point out the money the EPA wastes by throwing it out at unworthy private entities in “grants.” Open The Books (OTB) discovered that the agency spent over $72 billion giving grants to outside groups and non-governmental organizations for their partisan, left-wing causes.

As Media Worries Over Trump, Hillary Clinton Ignored for Saying All Cops and Judges are Racists

-By Warner Todd Huston

As the media continues to lose its tiny collective, hive mind about every little utterance made by Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton has come out to proclaim that every cop and judge is a racist.

Hillary Clinton went on criminal Al Sharpton’s radio show late last week and insisted that all cops are racist toward black men. She also said that the judicial system is inherently racist and can’t properly judge blacks.

During the conversation, Clinton told Sharpton, “I believe we need to end the era of mass incarceration. If you compare arrest records in, you know, in charging of crimes, in convicting of crimes, in sentencing for crimes, you compare African-America men to white men, it is as unfortunately clear as it could be that there is a bias in favor of white men.”

She goes on to praise Obama’s task force on policing “roadmap for reforms.”

So, Clinton just proclaimed all cops, all judges, all lawyers, the whole judicial system, to be a racist system inherently aligned against black people.

New Mexico Just moved Toward Restoring Private Property Rights Crimping Seizure Laws

-By Warner Todd Huston

Decades ago when civil asset forfeiture laws were first proposed they seemed like a good idea. But at this point they’ve become a corrupting influence and just an excuse to steal from citizens. Now New Mexico has made a move to reverse the damage.

The corrupt law in question, here, is the civil asset forfeiture law, a rule that was created to give cops the ability to quickly seize property and assets so that drug dealers won’t have the cash on hand–or the ability to liquidate assets–to help them get away with drug dealing.

With this law cops can seize your property and assets even if they never charge you with a crime. Worse, they often never return the money and property even if you are eventually proven innocent in a court of law.

Unfortunately, once these laws spread across the country what ended up happening in practice is that cops simply started stealing the money and property of nearly everyone they came in contact with making a mockery of both the Constitution and the whole purpose the law was created for in the first place.

In essence, forfeiture laws ended up turning police into outright criminals.

City Being Forced to ‘Negotiate’ With Union Despite That No Employees Belong

-By Warner Todd Huston

Here we have yet another example of why unions should never, ever be allowed for government workers. A union that claims to represent police officers in Moriarty, New Mexico, is attempting to force the city to negotiate raises for officers quite despite the fact that the union doesn’t count a single member of the force as a member.

You read that right. A union with no members is claiming that it has the power to force a city to give police officers raises courtesy of the taxpayer.

Back in 2010 the city’s officers did vote to invite a union to represent them but when all was said and done only two officers joined the union. The majority refused. And since 2010 the two officers that did belong to the union have since left the force leaving the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) without even a single member on the force.

Yet, AFSCME is insisting that they have the right to negotiate raises despite not having a single member for which to negotiate.

Attny Gen Eric Holder Finally Did Something Right, Halts Local Cops from Using Asset Seizure Laws

-By Warner Todd Huston

Obama’s Attorney General, Eric Holder, has been the single worst AG in American history. His every move has been about politics, not justice, he has abused his position of authority to punish Obama’s political enemies and has forcefully advanced an extremist left-wing agenda. But finally, as he has one foot out the door, Eric Holder has done something right. He’s put an end to local police using federal law to seize property.

The single biggest misdeed perpetrated by police forces across the nation has been the outright theft under color of law of the property of citizens cops claim are suspects in some crime, real or imaginary. This law is entirely un-American as it declares all suspects guilty before a trial is even scheduled.

The civil asset forfeiture program called Equitable Sharing was initially meant as a way to instantly seize the assets and property of drug dealers to prevent them from shifting or hiding drug income from investigators as any arrest wound its way slowly through the criminal justice system.

But, this sweeping power proved to be too much of a temptation for agencies that hungered for money in an era when politicians have been cutting budgets from coast to coast.

Tulsa Police Capt. Suspended for Refusing to Attended Ordered Muslims Mosque Services

-By Warner Todd Huston

A Tulsa police officer who was suspended and punished for refusing to attend Muslim religious services at a local mosque that has ties to the Muslim Brotherhood is suing his employer for ordering him to attend over his religious objections.

Even worse, the mosque the officer was order to attend is connected to an Imam who is an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing and has been recorded proudly making numerous anti-American statements over the years.

In yet another example of the self-immolation marking the end of western culture, Captain Paul Fields of the Tulsa, Oklahoma police force was suspended and later punished further for refusing to attend the mosque as well as refusing to order any of the officers under him to do so against their religious beliefs.

Of course, we all know that if the Tulsa police had tried to force its officers to attend Christian indoctrination services, the media and the militant atheists who pretend to be against religion–but who are really only against Christianity–would have been all over this case. But because the department was forcing Islam down the throats of its officers, all those nice, liberal groups are silent as a graveyard.

Note the Difference Between Bundy Ranch Protest and Ferguson Riots

-By Warner Todd Huston

A comparison between the Bundy ranch protests from April of this year to what is going on in Ferguson is telling. It is also very, very instructive on just how to stand up for your rights in the era of a thoroughly militarized government.

Early in 2014 a rancher in Nevada named Cliven Bundy became the focus of an anti-government protest when the Bureau of Land Management swooped in with a paramilitary attack on Bundy’s ranch killing his cattle and claiming he was going to be arrested for supposedly refusing to pay a grazing tax, a dispute over which rancher Bundy and the government had been embroiled since 1993.

As the government swooped in with a militarized retinue of shock troops featuring armored vehicles, fully automatic machine guns, body armor, and hundreds of officers, people around the country began to perk up and take notice. Within a matter of days hundreds of American citizens made their way to the Bundy ranch in Nevada to stand up to the overreaction of the federal government.

Glenn Greenwald, the columnist famed for coming to the support of NSA leaker Edward Snowden, has chimed in on the unrest in Ferguson, Missouri, by hinting that Israel is to blame for influencing the police there.

This is nothing but anti-Semitic paranoia, plain and simple.

Greenwald cited an Iranian activist named Trita Parsi who claimed that “excessive police violence” in Ferguson can be blamed on the fact that the county police chief took a fact-finding trip to Israel in 2011.

POLICE STATE: Feds Still Buying Tons of Ammunition

-By Warner Todd Huston

“Where the people fear the government you have tyranny. Where the government fears the people you have liberty.”–John Basil Barnhill, 1914

If liberals want to get rid of guns in society, apparently the first place they should start is the federal government. For some unexplainable reason, nearly every federal agency has its own armed, para-military police force. From the Post Office, to the Bureau of Land Management, to even the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration they are all armed to the teeth! Why do these agencies need their own police forces? They don’t… except for the fact that they want to force their will on the American people and it’s easier to do that when you can kill anyone in your way.

You read that right, above. The U.S. Post Office has it’s own armed police force (It has for decades, by the way). So does the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Seriously. NOAA has a SWAT team that claims it needs 46,000 rounds of ammunition! It is beyond insensible.

Last year the Post Office had announced that it was going to buy thousands of rounds of ammunition and not long ago the Social Security Administration ordered 174,000 rounds of “.357 Sig 125 grain bonded jacketed hollow-point” bullets.

US Army Builds Fake American Town to Practice War on Americans

-By Warner Todd Huston

In Virginia, the U.S. Army has built an American city, replete with a church, a mosque, an embassy building, a bank and a working subway system, in order to practice assaulting American cities. Welcome to Obama’s America, folks.

The town took six years to complete, is built on a 300-acre plot of government-owned land in Virginia and cost taxpayers $96 million. It is designed to, “replicate complex operational environments and develop solutions.”

The “training” facility was completed and opened in January of this year and is operated by the U.S. Army’s Asymmetric Warfare Group.

Unveiling the new facility, Colonel John P. Petkosek, the commander of the group, said:

California Police Dept. Asks Postmen, Garbage Collectors to Help Spot Crime

-By Warner Todd Huston

The police department in Antioch, California is so short handed it has taken the unusual step of asking mail carriers and garbage men to help them fight crime by becoming their eyes and ears on the street.

In the small town, employees of the local garbage collection service, Republic Services Inc., and letter carriers of the U.S. Postal Service have been given special tips on how to spot crime on the streets. Police have dubbed the program, “We’re Looking Out For You,” and hope to add more eyes to their force to keep the town’s 105,000 residents safe

Workers in the two separate fields will be given training and laminated cards with a list of questions intended to sharpen their powers of observation. The cards also have the department’s non-emergency phone number on them so that garbage collectors and mailmen can report anything they might see as they go about their daily business.

I am now an eyewitness in a police shooting death.

There are six police officers and a sheriff’s deputy who will stand trial for violation of civil rights under color of law and battery leading to wrongful death.

The plaintiff seeks $1 million apiece from each defendant.

Here is my testimony:

I am not allowed to speak or to give testimony in this matter.

The State of Missouri [under Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster] has determined that there is no manner of limitation to the extent of crimes of violence [pursuant to 18 USC 924(c)(3)] that persons acting under color of state law are permitted to enact on a witness in a federal matter for the sole purpose of influencing or preventing testimony in a pending federal judicial proceeding.

Actually, it goes even further than that.

Indiana Law Gives Citizens Legal Right to Shoot Out-Of-Control Cops

-By Warner Todd Huston

Apparently the State of Indiana has passed a law allowing citizens to use deadly force against out of control officers of the state, including police officers, who unlawfully enter their home. This is a very touchy subject, especially for conservatives. Can we as law and order types agree that such a deadly force law is a good idea? Or should we defer to the police at every instance?

Well, I can’t speak for all conservatives, of course, but for me, I can’t agree with this law more.

Now, before you get all crazy about how I just don’t understand law “enforcement,” let me warn you that my father, a man I dearly love and respect, was in police work for most of his adult life. I am proud of his service. For the most part I respect and sympathize with our officers of the law. So,l et’s get beyond that.

So, while I most certainly sympathize with our law officials, I sympathize with our founders’ vision and the natural rights they invoked more than I do the expectation that officers of the law can act with impunity. That is why I put “enforcement” in quotes. Properly constituted our law officials don’t “enforce” anything. They really only investigate crime, they don’t and shouldn’t proactively try to “enforce” anything as that implies the power to stop something that has yet to occur.

The Movie Script and My Testimony before Congress

—by Paleo-Skeptic

I will be interviewed for Lawless America— The Movie, and give testimony to Congress as a part of that project coordinated by Government Reform & Integrity Now.

Here I would like to note that it was the Office of Senator Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) that first got me to writing all of this stuff down. His Office has requested a full report with supporting documentation for the purpose of de-funding the illicit 501(c)(3) organization headed by an elected official. For many years, Sen. Blunt has been on the front lines of reducing wasteful spending, and restoring integrity in our government.

I had to come up with a three-minute script to submit to the producer. This is what I have, though it takes 324 seconds for me to read through it. They can edit it how they want for the movie, but my testimony before Congress will likely include all of the following (not blockquoted due to length):

I was awarded press credentials for NATO’s 2012 Summit in Chicago and, having no idea what to expect, what I found on day one was a study in contrasts. What occurred was sometimes amusing, often mundane, and sometimes even violent. But it was all democracy in action.

Early on the morning of day one, Sunday, May 20, I boarded a western Metra train under threat of having my equipment bags confiscated or at least me prevented from boarding the train with them. I was not ruffed up the “the man,” though and downtown I went riding high on the rails. Literally. I took a seat on the top tier of the train.

The Summit didn’t start well as the NATO advance video called Chicago the Illinois Capital (It isn’t) and the place where Obama grew up (Again, it isn’t).

Upon reaching the gathering point for the press in beautiful downtown Chicago I boarded the super, double, secret press shuttle bus that took us down the service streets, steering well clear of the surface roads, straight to Chicago’s McCormick Place convention center, site of the NATO Summit.

Of course, before I was allowed on the super, double, secret press bus, bomb-sniffing dogs were loosed to make sure I had no underwear-bomb on my person or in my equipment bags. After I was officially cleared, I boarded the bus with local Chicago TV newsreader Jay Levine.

Everywhere I went there were knots of security personnel. A LOT of security personnel. The last time I saw that many security people I was in Cancun, Mexico during the 2010 UN Climate Conference.

There were members of the FBI, Homeland Security, Chicago Police, the U.S. Marshals as well as U.S. Airmen and Army officers all there on duty to make sure our tender media people were safe and secure.

I was later to learn that out on the streets of Chicago the number of security of all sorts made the way to McCormick Place seem like it was lightly guarded!

Birmingham News Drops the Ball on Black-on-white Crime

-By Selwyn Duke

Recently I reported on the stabbing of white truck driver Nick Stokes by members of a black motorcycle gang called the Outcasts of Alabama. It’s not merely a scary story but also an unusual one, mostly because of the behavior of law enforcement. The Adamsville, AL police department not only failed to question or detain any of the gangsters, but, outrageously, also told Stokes that they “don’t mess” with the Outcasts.

What isn’t at all unusual about the story is the mainstream media’s reluctance to cover a case of black-on-white crime. In particular, I cited the Birmingham News (BN), whose crime-beat reporter, Carol Robinson, had brusquely dismissed the incident as not newsworthy. After my article was published in American Thinker, however, she finally treated it – no doubt as a result of pressure – but in a manner so incomplete that it reflects a grudging attitude. More on that in a moment.

The BN’s dereliction of duty didn’t escape its readers, some of whom savaged the paper in the comments section under Robinson’s piece. One wrote, “Wow. Birmingham News finally prints this story. Only after being shamed into it by the American Thinker….” Another quipped, “Hey Birmingham news, if you don’t watch out someone is gonna start a newspaper around here.” We can only hope.

The Motion, text

-By Paleo Skeptic

As stated elsewhere, this is the text of the motion in the US District Court of Western Missouri from an advance copy. There are a few things that I want to note before we get to the text of the motion itself.

One of the big ones is the complicity of the Missouri Attorney General, Chris Koster (D-Cass). Koster is well-known for only taking on cases which are politically significant to him; most recently being the big tobacco settlement, whose funds went to shore up the failing state university system. This makes liberals happy when one of their primary indoctrination mechanisms remains intact. But it should be noted that selective enforcement of the law, and especially when a political opponent is an opposing party, is quite the norm for Koster’s office.

Secondly, it should be noted that the incidents described in this motion are by no means isolated. There are at least two occasions involving different persons that the prosecutor’s office of Platte County, under Eric Zahnd, has relied on the statements of mentally ill persons in a questionable fashion, not to mention the occasions disclosed by commenters at this site.

And third, let me state that I have seen the documentation in question, and studied it in depth. The claims made in this motion are true and verifiable.

Redacted text of the motion below the fold:

Police to White Victim: We ‘Don’t Mess’ with Black Gang

-By Selwyn Duke

Most of us have heard about how the media won’t report on black-on-white crime. We also may know that authorities sometimes sweep it under the rug due to political pressure, usually with a wink and a nod. But not so in rural Alabama, where the police actually told a white crime victim that they “don’t mess” with a local black motorcycle gang.

The tragic event that led to this shocking admission occurred on March 28, as truck driver Nick Stokes and neighbor Johnathan Cooper were heading out of Birmingham hauling a portable cabin. While rounding a curve, one of Stokes’ tires slipped and kicked up some gravel, which angered a black motorcycle-gang member who was in close proximity. The gangster – part of the notorious “Outcasts of Alabama” – gave chase and tried to force Stokes to pull over to the side of the road. Here’s what happened next, as reported by the Macon Beacon’s Scott Boyd, whose piece has been published online by J. Christian Adams:

The Motion

-By Paleo-Skeptic

I’ve stated elsewhere that I would publish this here at the time that it is completed. The full text will be forthcoming later.

I’m still working on it, touching up a few things before it’s filed. This motion is to be ruled on by US District Judge David Gregory Kays.

Most of it is establishing that I am, in fact, an integral witness in this case. The rest just pretty much states that I am not at liberty to disclose to the Court the exact nature of the incredible amount of tampering with a federal witness under color of law which has already occurred, causing this federal witness to make numerous public statements as early as March of 2011 regarding having fled the State of Missouri in fear of his life.

Here is the first page of the motion:

Berkeley Storm Troopers: Don’t Write What The Police Don’t Like or Else

-By Warner Todd Huston

If police chiefs send armed officers to a journalist’s door because he didn’t like what was written abut him, would you feel just a tad uncomfortable as an American at the audacity? This is no academic discussion because it really happened. Not in what liberals may claim is the dangerous, intolerant south but instead in the heart of liberal land itself, Berkeley, California.

Worse, one of the reasons this whole situation arose is because police were too distracted by an Occupy Berkeley protest to respond to an incident that ended up in the murder of a 67-year-old resident.

But first, on Friday, Feb. 9, Berkeley Police Chief Michael Meehan sent an armed officer to the door of Bay Area News Group reporter Doug Oakley at nearly one in the morning to demand that he publish a correction about something the reporter had written about the Berkeley police department.

Radical Islamic Nut Killed by Georgia Police

In another case of sudden jihad syndrome one more nut has bitten the dust here in the good ol’ USA. But this one won’t be enjoying the traditional 72 virgins, well, unless she is a very uncommon Muslim, that is. Jameela Cecila Barnette was killed by a Cobb County, Georgia Police Officer on Christmas morning, no less, when she attacked him with a knife. Merry Christmas, indeed.

Barnette, 53, apparently a recent convert to Islam, was under indictment for threatening several lawmakers, one of whom is New York State Senator Greg Ball whom Barnette sent a rambling, threatening letter in a box with a stuffed monkey with Stars of David pinned to it.

The letter read in part:

it is apparent that you are the proud, dirty-white, goose-stepping, cross-bearing, flag-draped, Muslim-hating Christian ghoul marching to your own destruction,” agents said Barnette wrote in the letter. “I have included a gift for you, your own miniature Jew that you can worship in the privacy of your own home. I will be scanning the obituaries to read the end of your saga. Enjoy your brief and evil life of fairy tales and hokum your evil Jew masters created for you because the Hell-fire is your final destination and the final destination of all of your colleagues.

NYPD Police Union: Another Example of Why Public Employee Unions Need to be Outlawed

NYPD Police Union: Another Example of Why Public Employee Unions Need to be Outlawed

-By Warner Todd Huston

Last week 16 dirty New York cops went on trial for all sorts of criminal behavior. From dealing drugs, to assault and grand larceny, and “unrelated corruption,” these cops are proving to be some very crooked characters. But fellow officers don’t care about that. They have ginned themselves up to act like the punks and scumbags they are supposed to be putting behind bars all due to their police union and its agitation over the trials.

Even The New York Times seemed shocked by the venomous treatment these union thugs cops were delivering to the District Attorneys handling the case. Certainly these crooked cops are innocent until the prosecution proves its case, but these union toughs don’t care to let the law take its course. They want to storm the gates like the barbarians they are.

These so-called police officers even began to accost the media as the defendants left the courtroom. Says the Times, “The assembled police officers blocked cameras from filming their colleagues, in one instance grabbing lenses and shoving television camera operators backward.”

Don’t Film Me Bro: Getting Arrested for Filming People in Public Places

The law has not caught up with cell phone cameras, Flip Cameras, compact video cameras, and the electronic age. Two stories being reported last weekend prove out how the ubiquity of video capture devices are often a gray area in the law.

In one case a woman in Rochester, New York, pulled out her video camera to record the actions of a local policeman as he arrested a neighbor. As it happens, this woman was standing on her own front lawn, no where near the policeman who was going about his duties, yet this cop got incensed and arrested her anyway. He claimed she was guilty of obstruction of justice.

How this woman’s actions was interfering with the police officer is impossible to figure, but she was detained nonetheless.
