Nevada Democrat Steven Brooks has become the first elected official ever expelled from the Nevada State Assembly. But in a strange twist, the lawmaker was arrested in California only hours later charged with assaulting police.
The arrest in California isn’t the first time that Steven Brooks (D, N. Las Vegas) has been arrested.
On January 19, Brooks was arrested by North Las Vegas Police for threatening another lawmaker with violence. It was said he waived around a gun while making the threats.
Not long after he was released on the first charge, Books was arrested again for assaulting a family member.
After this behavior, especially the threats to Nevada Assembly Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick, also a Democrat, a committee was convened to consider what to do with Rep. Brooks.

A few weeks ago, Nevada Democratic Assemblyman Steven Brooks, 40, was arrested for threatening to kill the Nevada Speaker of the Assembly. This week he is behind bars again, this time charged with suspicion of domestic battery against a thus far unnamed family member.
Authorities reported that Brooks was arrested on February 11 outside his Las Vegas home after getting combative with police. Officials say that they had “determined Brooks had physically attacked a family member.” Further details have yet to be released on the incident.
This isn’t the first time Assemblyman Brooks mixed it up with police. At the end of January, Democrat Brooks was arrested for “threats of physical violence” lodged against Nevada Assembly Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick, also a Democrat.

Things are getting rough out in Nevada. Democratic Assemblyman Steven Brooks was just arrested for “threats of physical violence” against Nevada Assembly Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick, also a Democrat. Some reports even claim that a weapon was involved, or threatened to be used.
The arrest came on Saturday, January 19, after Brooks made verbal threats against Speaker Kirkpatrick. Early reports had Brooks actually brandishing a weapon but later reports claimed he had just threatened to get his gun that was in his car.
The North Las Vegas Police reports as follows:
North Las Vegas, NV – On January 19, 2013 at about 3:45 p.m. officers responded to a home in the northwestern part of North Las Vegas in reference to a report of threats to an elected public official. It was reported that Assemblyman Steven Brooks (40) of North Las Vegas made threats to harm a fellow State representative.

Right Online 2012: Great Success at the Vegas Venetian

For my final report on the fifth annual Right Online 2012 sponsored by Americans for Prosperity we’ll be talking about the parade of great speakers like NRO writer Jonah Goldberg and environmental apostate (as far as the left is concerned) Ann McElhinney. But first a word about the great hotel and casino in which we stayed.
The Venetian Las Vegas is in many ways a conservative’s dream hotel — well, unless you opposing gambling, and certainly many conservatives do — that aside, as I was saying, The Venetian is the best of Vegas and the best for conservative entrepreneurship. You see, this hotel is the only union free hotel on the strip.
But not only is The Venetian union free, it also has the highest paid staff getting the best benefits in Vegas. This is because conservatives know how to treat their employees!
If you are planning a Vegas get away, even if you aren’t planning on gambling, come stay at the Venetian. Heck, it’s even the biggest single building in the world, now. The suites are incredible, there’s shopping, big time stage shows, swimming, and eating and drinking galore.
Just look at this incredible room:

See the sacrifices I have to make to report these events to you?
Anyway, folks, do yourselves a favor if you’re coming to Las Vegas, book The Venetian.

Duane Lester of All American Blogger caught some video of a great rant by Jim Hoft of Gateway Pundit delivered at one of the breakout panels at Right Online 2012.
Go get ‘em Jim…
He’s exactly right, too. before the New Media finally came about there was practically no way to get the truth.
Remember, we are all Breitbart, now.

This will be a photo blast of some of this morning’s speakers here at Right Online 2012 in sunny Las Vegas, Nevada. I Tweeted most of these AM speakers and you can read those Tweets at http://twitter.com/warnerthuston.

We got to hear once again from Michelle Malkin who impressed upon us how important Twitter has become to pushing the narrative these days. Malkin also talked a bit about our dearly departed Andrew Breitbart.

My friend Mike Chamberlain was a baaad boy last week at the Nevada State Education Association’s annual convention. It seems he was tossed out of the convention on his ear for his blasphemies. It’s no wonder they tossed out this ne’er-do-well, too. He had the temerity to… sit quietly in a corner and take notes on his laptop. How disruptive, eh?
Saturday I was kicked out of the Nevada State Education Association, the state teachers union, convention for, well, for being a conservative at the NSEA convention. Not only did they kick me out of their meeting but, later, one of the directors called me and the others who attended as guests of one of the delegates “enemies” of the organization.
Heck, Mike didn’t even crash the joint. He was properly invited and allowed int the place by a NSEA member, too. I’d say he has a lot to learn about being an obstreperous, party crasher! Being all peaceful and unassuming. The NERVE of him!

Even American ‘Cowboys’ Now Government Teat Suckers

Last month when the current series of budget debates began to heat up, the ineffectual leader of the Democrats in the U.S. Senate thought he had a great little point against proposed tax cuts by crying that the cuts would destroy Nevada’s “Cowboy Poetry.”
Oh, the humanities.
You might recall that last month Reid ambled up to the podium on the floor of the Senate and loosed his six shooters on GOP tax cutters saying that the cuts would kill off the famous cowboy poetry event held every January in Elko, Nevada.
As idiotic as that claim is, there was a paucity of replies to Reid’s claims by the very cowboy poets that he claimed he was wearin’ the white hat for. Well, The New York Times has a piece rectifying that problem by giving speaking space to some of the cowboys involved in this taxpayers funded event.

Nevada Nanny State Nonsense: Banning Your Candles and Air Fresheners

Nevada has a nose for nonsense. This time the stink wafting from the Silver State is not from the back allies of its casinos but from its state house where politicians are sticking their noses in Nevada’s candles and air fresheners. Wallowing in true nanny state stupidity Democrats are considering a bill to ban candles and air fresheners because a tiny fraction of the population is allergic to the scents in them.
Las Vegas Democratic Assemblyman Paul Aizley on Monday presented AB234, which sets restrictions on pesticides, fragrances and candles to accommodate people with chemical sensitivities. Proponents said air fresheners give them migraines or asthma attacks and prevent them from going to the movies or to restaurants. A cocktail waitress at a casino said inhaling the fragrances piped through the ventilation system felt like a concrete slab on her chest.
Someone should consider a bill to ban nosy, buttinski Democrats instead…

Nevada Democrats Avoiding Voters, Hiding Actions From Public, Firing People Without Cause

Once in a while a story of the sort of arrogance in government that should make every fair-minded American sick at heart comes out to show how Democrats act when have a lock on power and when they think no one is looking. This time we find an amazing amount of arrogance in Nevada, one that is obviously a violation of Thomas Jefferson’s axiom that men are not born to be ridden “booted and spurred” by government but are free men. This government arrogance is truly as un-American as can be.
There are many instances of Democrat arrogance, of course. Like when North Carolina Democrat Congressman Bob Etheridge Democrat Al Green hectored a Washington Times reporter about the KKK (when it was Democrats that created the terror group in the first place), or when Congressman Charlie Rangel stormed out of an ethics hearing after being convicted on 11 counts because, well, he was incensed that anyone had the temerity to call him on his perfidy. Well, there are just too many to cover fully.
Chuck Muth of Citizen Outreach has the outrageous story of a lowly legislative aide fired for no reason whatever because a public record email was released to the public. Imagine the people thinking that they have a right to see the official emails of their own government officials! The gall of those voters!

It Begs the Question: The Cowboy Poetry Society

The speech by U.S. Senate Majority Bleater Harry Reid (D, NV) on the Senate floor on March 8th is destined to become a classic in the pantheon of such utterances. In condemning the cutting of funds for the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Sen. Reid decried the ending of an annual festival in Nevada and stated, “Had that program not been around, the tens of thousands of people who come there every year would not exist.” We’ll leave it to a higher authority in the field of Medicine to determine whether the attendees would still exist.
The National Cowboy Poetry Gathering, the actual name of the festival, was held this year from January28th to February 4th. Direct from the festival’s website is the cost of tickets to the events:
“For the 27th National Cowboy Poetry Gathering, if purchased prior to December 22, 2010, a four-day Deluxe Pass was $60 and included the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering program book. After December 22, the cost increased to $75. If not purchased as a part of a Deluxe Pass, the program book sold for $6.00. A single Day Pass for Wednesday, January 26 was $15, and single Day Passes for Thursday, Friday and Saturday, January 27-29 were $25 each.”

Truth in Accounting Issues: Nevada’s ‘Financial State of the State’ – True Tax Burden $4.3 Billion

From the Institute for Truth in Accounting…
Chicago (November 29, 2010) Today, the Institute for Truth in Accounting released Nevada’s “Financial State of the State.” After an intensive review of the State’s 2010 audited financial report the Institute determined the State is in a precarious financial position because it does not have the funds available to pay more than $4.3 billion of the State’s commitments as they come due. Each taxpayer’s share of this financial burden equals $5,000.
Nevada state law requires a balanced budget. “If governors and legislatures had truly balanced the state’s budget, no taxpayer’s financial burden would exist,” said Sheila Weinberg, founder and CEO of the Institute for Truth in Accounting (IFTA). She continued, “A state budget is not balanced if past costs, including those for employees’ retirement benefits, are pushed into the future.”

Now That He’s Won, Reid’s Paying Back Unions

Harry Reid survived his brush with electoral death winning yet another term as Nevada’s Senator. Reid knows what side of his bread is buttered, too. Big Labor gave him millions in campaign donations and Reid knows who he owes — or rather who owns him. Now that he’s fairly won he’s promising his patrons in Big Labor that he intends to push one of their favorite laws.
Reid has said that one of his first priorities will be to push a cloture vote on the Public Safety Employer-Employee Cooperation Act (S.3992) that he ramrodded earlier this year.
This act is focused on the unionization of the nation’s police, firemen and other first responders. It would replace with federal rules all state laws on collective bargaining between state and local governments and their first responder unions and would greatly empower unions to dictate pay scales and benefits on a national level.

Elizabeth Crum has a great report over at National Review detailing a series of emails between the campaign staff of Senator Harry Reid and union members of Harrah’s casino in an effort to coerce workers to vote for Harry Reid.
Crum reveals emails between Reid’s office and the union folks telling them to force their members to get to the polls, setting up bus trips for that purpose, and even sending a spread sheet file identifying workers who had and had not voted and for whom they voted.
This is all clearly illegal.

I just flew in from Las Vegas where I attended Americans For Prosperity’s RightOnLine 2010 conference. As always, it was an uplifting experience, educational, and a whole lot of fun. I caught up with old friends, met with business partners, and made new friends.
For those unaware of what this whole RightOnLine thing is, think of it as an activist’s training program. If you attend you’ll find sessions and panels that range from such introductory programs as “Blogging 101″ ad “podcasting 101,” to more in depth online activities as “Citizen Journalism” and “Global Warming and Energy Policy.” It really is a worthwhile endeavor and if the conference ever comes to a town near you, please do yourself a favor and attend.

Is ‘Journalist’ Another Job Americans Won’t Do?

Whenever criticizing grammar and punctuation, you run the risk of being labeled punctilious. Worse still, since even many good writers involved in Internet journalism disgorge the odd typo, there’s the chance you will come to be regarded as an expert on the glass-house real estate market. Yet there’s no doubt that the much lamented decline in journalism is about style as well as substance. And, just occasionally, you encounter an example of it that demands some attention.
Such is a Channel 13 Action News (ABC) article titled “Las Vegas Mayor Goodman rejects Obama invitation,” a piece that is, you might say, plagiarism proof. It brings to mind that oft-heard journalistic advice that, put loosely, instructs one to write at an eighth-grade level. Only, I didn’t know it referred to the eighth grade in Mexico — when writing in English. That is to say, it’s obvious the piece was not penned by a native English speaker.
The article is so bad that it’s impossible to print all the errors contained therein without running afoul of Fair Use Doctrine. So, since I don’t write for The New York Times and my name isn’t Zachary Kouwe or Jayson Blair, I’ll just say that I counted nine major mistakes (and I’m omitting much) in the 333-word piece and will present the most glaring examples. I won’t provide corrections, however, as these excerpts speak for themselves. And if a reader can’t hear what they say, I suggest that he has a future at ABC News.

Why This Conservative Wants Harry Reid to Stay Right Now

Of course it would serve Senate Democrat Majority Leader Harry Reid and the Democrats right if they found Reid hounded from the Democrat leadership or even from office over his racist comments made about President Obama back during the presidential campaign. After all the faux charges of racism that the left has used to hound Republicans from office, it would be sweet revenge to turn it on Harry Reid. But as a conservative, I do not want to see Reid hounded from his Democrat leadership position and I most especially don’t want him to leave office before the 2010 elections.
Does that sound hard to understand? You might ask why a conservative woud want to protect Harry Reid? Well, it’s all about politics, my friend.
