In March, the pro-life student group Voice For Live was denied the status of official student club by the Student Government Association at Johns Hopkins University. And even as VFL was compared to white supremacists, racists, and deemed undesirable, the SGA approved a new group called Students for Justice in Palestine despite that the latter group has a history of anti-Semitism and campus disruption.
The SGA (SGA) voted on March 12 to deny Voice For Life (VFL )the right to become an officially sanctioned club. The vote against VFL was later upheld by the SGA senate.
To explain its decision, the SGA claimed that the pro-life group’s national website is “offensive” because one of its links takes visitors to the website for Bio-Ethical Reform. The SGA also claimed that because the pro-life group engages in sidewalk counseling at a Baltimore abortion facility, that “clearly violates the JHU Harassment and Code of Conduct policies.”
President of Students for Life of America Kristen Hawkins told Fox News that they were shocked to be denied club status.
“We were pretty shocked when the students showed their bias toward the pro-life students,” Hawkins said.

Once again I am attending the Conservative Political Action Conference here in Washington D.C.–well, not D.C. exactly but outside the city in National Harbor, Maryland, a 20 minute drive from downtown.
The morning started off with Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, U.S. Representative Allen West, and Senator Pat Toomey and a few others.
CPAC’s early group discussion on Thursday was all about cultural diversity with a panel titled “Respecting families and the rule of law: a lasting immigration policy.” This panel addressed the thorny issue of the conservative position on the current problems over immigration, illegal or otherwise.

The wide ranging gun ban bill introduced by Senator Diane Feinstein (D, CA) could be voted out of committee and passed on to the full Senate as early as Thursday.
A schedule posted for the upcoming February 28 executive business meeting shows the Senate Judiciary Committee intends to discuss Feinstein’s and three other gun control bills, though the eight Republican members of the committee have the option to push the meeting off for another week.
The Feinstein bill bans up to 160 specifically named firearms but might have an uphill battle in the Senate as even some Democrat Senators have said it goes too far by banning too many firearms.
Less than a month ago Senate Democrat majority leader Harry Reid (D, NV) shied from supporting Feinstein’s bill directly, though he praised her “enthusiasm” for her gun banning bill.

Rapper Lupe Fiasco lived down to his name at a recent corporate-sponsored inauguration party in Washington D.C. when he was thrown off the stage by the hosts for going on a tirade against President Obama, Rush Limbaugh, and Glenn Beck, audience members said.
During one of his “songs” the rapper informed the audience that he didn’t vote for President Obama and told them why, saying, “…and these same people supposedly telling us the truth. Limbaugh is a racist, Glenn Beck is a racist, Gaza strip was getting bombed. Obama didn’t say sh*t. That’s why I ain’t vote for him, next one either. I’m part of the problem, my problem is I’m peaceful.”
It wasn’t long before black-suited security guards mounted the stage and swept the rapper off, shutting down the concert.
Josh Rogin, a writer for Foreign Policy magazine, was in the audience and tweeted as the incident played out. In one Tweet, Rogin reported, “Lupe refused to move to the next song so a team of security guards came on stage and told him to go.”

Nancy Pelosi, the Democrat leader of the House of Representatives and former Speaker of the House, is defending a faked photograph released on Thursday showing the “diversity” of the Female members of the Democrat delegation to Congress.
The photo featuring “all” the Democrat women of the House standing on the steps outside the Capital building was released by the California Democrat on her Flikr account on January 3.
But oddly, the four Democrats shown at the top steps in the back of the group are not really in the photo. The images of the four were photoshopped into the picture and weren’t present when the group photo was taken. The missing four were added later by Pelosi’s computer-wielding staffers. You can see both the original photo and the photoshopped results at Poynter. Or see below.

U.S. Already Hitting Debt Ceiling on Monday?

U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner is warning Congress that the U.S. is on the cusp of hitting the debt ceiling yet again, maybe as soon as Monday.
Geithner said that the Treasury Dept. will be taking some “extraordinary measures” to prevent borrowing from exceeding the previous debt ceiling limit, measures such as a temporary halt of the reinvestment of federal workers’ retirement account contributions.
This, along with other measures might save the government $200 billion as the debt limit approaches to just under $95 billion below the $16.394 trillion debt ceiling limit.
A major problem with these “extraordinary measures” is that no one knows what effects the fiscal cliff may have on them. The biggest unknown is what effect new tax rules will have on the situation.

The story of David Gregory’s Meet the Press rifle magazine stunt is getting a bit more complicated. A new report says that NBC was actually told that waiving the 30-round magazine on TV would not be against the law.
The report says that law enforcement officials at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (BATF) were contacted by staffers from Meet the Press asking whether or not using the 30-round rifle magazine on the air, in the Washington D.C. studios, would be a violation of the law.
After the inquiry by NBC, the ATF contacted the D.C. police and report that the police told them that as long as the rifle magazine was empty, it would not be a violation of the city’s strict gun-ban laws.
D.C. police, however, are now saying quite then opposite.

Washington D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier has affirmed that the department is looking into allegations that NBC’s David Gregory violated D.C.’s gun banning laws during a recent taping of Meet the Press.
In a discussion about gun control on the December 23 broadcast of the NBC Sunday morning political talk show, host David Gregory brandished a 30-round magazine purportedly for an AR-15 or similar “assault rifle.”

Washington D.C.’s gun laws, however, state that even possessing such a device is a violation. Meet the Press is filmed at NBC’s D.C. studios.

While attacking National Rifle Association President Wayne La Pierre on NBC’s Meet the Press this weekend, host David Gregory actually violated gun laws in the city where he broadcasts.
During the show, Gregory waved around a 30-round magazine for what he claimed is an AR-15 rifle. But since Meet the Press is taped in NBC’s Washington D.C. studios this is actually a violation of the city’s strict gun laws.
Washington D.C. specifically bans the very ammunition magazine that Gregory bandied about during his discussion.

DC High Capacity Ammunition Magazines – D.C. Official Code 7-2506.01 (my bold)
(b) No person in the District shall possess, sell, or transfer any large capacity ammunition feeding device regardless of whether the device is attached to a firearm. For the purposes of this subsection, the term large capacity ammunition feeding device means a magazine, belt, drum, feed strip, or similar device that has a capacity of, or that can be readily restored or converted to accept, more than 10 rounds of ammunition. The term large capacity ammunition feeding device shall not include an attached tubular device designed to accept, and capable of operating only with, .22 caliber rimfire ammunition.
Penalties include “a maximum fine of $1000 and/or up to a year imprisonment.”
Will D.C. officials prosecute Mr. Gregory? They would anyone else, wouldn’t they?

Amid turmoil within its own ranks over its new CEO, The New York Times found itself looking from without and scolding the leadership of another major newspaper characterizing that paper’s chief as incompetent and claiming that she had “faltered anew.”
On November 18, NYT media critic David Carr went after Katharine Weymouth, The Washington Post’s publisher, for a meeting announcing a change in her Paper’s executive editor in what was, perhaps, a bit of an ungracious manner.
Weymouth’s meeting was called to announce that Post executive editor Marcus Brauchli was leaving and being replaced by Marty Barton, recently the editor of The Boston Globe.
There has been some intrigue between Brauchli and Weymouth, granted, and Weymouth has been at the center of some aborted attempts to grow her paper. But for the media critic of one paper to attack the leadership of another paper is reminiscent of the old days of newspaper wars, something not seen in modern times.
Mr. Carr thought the change in editors signaled “an inopportune time for The Post to stumble.”

NY Times: Family Research. Council Shooting POSSIBLY Driven by Politics?

The New York Times finally deigned to consider the motive of the domestic terrorist that shot up the Family Research Council earlier this week and in its wisdom it has decided that maybe, just maybe, there is a long shot, outside chance that the shooter could “possibly” have been motivated by “politics” with his murderous rage. Yes, they actually said “possibly.”
The Times’ headline reads, “Family Research Council Shooting Possibly Driven by Politics,” and the first paragraph immediately makes the lie to that less than ironic take on the facts.
A Virginia man charged with shooting a security guard at the headquarters of a prominent conservative organization told the guard “words to the effect of ‘I don’t like your politics,’” according to an affidavit filed in the case on Thursday.
How is it that a headline can cast a doubtful “possibly” while the first paragraph states directly that the shooter didn’t like the FRC’s politics is a conundrum for the ages, indeed.

This week I am in Washington D.C. at the Defending the American Dream Summit, an annual event hosted by Americans For Prosperity. This is always a great event held in the nation’s capitol with lots of great speakers and breakout panels, mostly for the edification of members of AFP.
The breakout panel I chose this morning was one titled Progressive Practices: Exposing and Combating the Left’s Tactics. The panelists were three of the best people you can put on such a panel. Wall Street Journal writer John Fund, famous for his knowledge and reportage on vote fraud. Anita MonCrief, famous for once being a member of the notorious group ACORN and later a whistleblower on its fraud, and videographer and investigative journalist (or guerilla journalist as some may say) James O’Keefe, famous for really being a pain in the left’s reared.

Videographer James O’Keefe and Author and Journalist John Fund
The intention of the panel was to help members of Americans For Prosperity to come to better understand the tactics of the left so that they know how to fight them back home, but the focus was most especially about vote fraud since each of the three panel members specialized in that area.

In a shocking new video, James O’Keefe’s Project Veritas demonstrates to the Attorney General of the United States, Eric Holder, just why he should be concerned about a lack of voter ID laws by walking into Holder’s Washington D.C. voting precinct and showing the world that anyone can obtain Holder’s own voting ballot by simply asking for it.
The video’s about section reads:
You need ID to cash a check, drive a car, get into a court house, pass a check , etc etc etc. But not to vote, wonder who’s profiting from that? Could it be the very people that are against voter ID? Those of you that use the BS excuse that it disenfranchises minorities, are so full of it. The only minority being shut out with voter ID laws are the ones that shouldn’t be there in the 1st place. True it does cut into the Democrat base, guess that’s why you are using that lame excuse.
If it is this easy for an investigative reporter to go into a voting place and misrepresent himself to take someone else’s ballot, how often does it happen to people that have passed away or to registered voters in any other situation? How often are votes cast by people misrepresenting themselves? And why is it that easy to do?

DC Deputy Mayor: Dear Victims of Crime, Better You Are Beaten, Raped, Stolen From Than You Protect Yourself

Washington D.C.’s Deputy Mayor for Public Safety and Justice wants you all to just stop whining about the rising crime in his fair city. He wants you to continue being a victim and like it. Not only that, but he thinks it’s a good thing that you should become a victim. Better that than protecting yourself, don’t you know?
That is what Dept. Mayor Paul Quander told victims of crime in Washington D.C. last week during a Third Ward public safety meeting. You don’t have any right to protect yourself, Washingtonians. You have only one response available to you: allow evil to prevail.
Unlike other big American cities, crime in D.C. is up 40% in the first two months of 2012. But Quander thinks it’s no big deal. Cowering is his motto.
A young citizen attending the meeting came to the open microphone to ask Dep. Mayor Quander what crime victims are supposed to do when confronted with violent criminals bent on mayhem.
“The choice that you have to make,” Quander rambled, “is to give them what they want. You walk away and you live and you survive.”
But the young man was incredulous and for good reason. “But how do you know that you are going to live and survive, you are completely at their mercy,” the young man asked.

I have long thought that the world is nuts, especially the world of Washington, D.C. Now I am sure. It seems Washington, D.C. has a rat problem. No, not that kind, the four-legged kind. Some of the rats are big as cats, so big that some homeowners are fearful of permitting their cats to confront the rats after dark.
Traditionally, rats have always been fearful of cats, but not these super rats!
Rats have infested some half-million-dollar homes and have been seen robbing bird feeders in daylight. Other homeowners have had rats come up in the commode from the sewer system. One family had that experience three times! That could mean a new experience when one goes to the potty, especially at night. While you dribble, dribble, dribble the rats can nibble, nibble, nibble.

Bankrupting America has started a new billboard campaign in both New York City and Washington DC urging the so-called “Super Committee” to cut $1.5 trillion from the federal budget this November.
As the supercommittee continues to meet behind closed doors, it’s important they remember what is at stake. Millions of Americans sit out of work, cost of living is rising, and uncertainty continues to hamstring a recovery. They must keep in mind that they’re not working in a vacuum. The policies enacted within the halls of Congress send ripples throughout the country and the world.
So we decided to place some high-profile reminders for the the members of the supercommittee – that Americans are still watching. We placed billboards in Times Square in New York City and in Washington D.C. telling the supercommittee we remember your promises of fiscal responsibility and commitment to place the federal government’s spending back on a sustainable path.
Keep your promise. Check out the billboards below.

Back on August first the whole country was waiting for the House of Representatives to raise the debt ceiling and offer a continuing resolution to prevent a feared government shutdown. That was done with the support of 95 Democrats who claimed they were desperate to prevent that shut down. (Relevant amendment)
However, in a follow up vote on Sept. 21 on another bill (H R 2608), 89 of those same Democrats reversed their vote and have essentially voted in favor of a government shut down by voting “no” on the latest continuing resolution to keep the government’s doors open.
Of course, Democrats voted against this bill because increases in budgets (such as that for FEMA) were offset with cuts in other areas. Democrats simply want to increase spending without the fiscally responsible act of cutting spending elsewhere.

Ron Paul certainly distanced himself from the other GOP candidates at the debate on the issue of foreign policy, didn’t he? He made himself seem like a head-in-the-sand, isolationist and his historical ignorance was amazing. Not only that but his simpleton approach to foreign policy was nothing short of breath taking. Well, Rep. Allen West similarly thought that Paul’s gabled ideas were dangerous and stated directly that Pau is “not the kind of guy you need to be sitting at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.”
Florida Representative Allen West, a former Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Army who served in Iraq, was attending a Tea Party event in Fort Lauderdale, Florida late last week and made a few comments about Paul’s rambling at the Ames debate.
West told attendees that the threats to the USA are far more dangerous than Ron Paul’s simple minded claims tended to make them seem…

The folks who have resisted real education reform will attempt to sell their broken ideas, tax-the-rich schemes and radical socialism in D.C. next month.
Sorry to be the bearer of unpleasant news, but the SOS (Save Our Schools) March on Washington — an attempt to con the public by diverting the debate away from real education reform issues like failing schools, irresponsible spending, retaining bad teachers, etc. – will be setting up their Big Top in Washington D.C. from July 28th to July 31st.
The annoying whiny voice in the SOS promotional video is probably an indication as to what the tone of the event will be. Its endorsers are the usual motley collection of progressive educators, socialist organizations and teachers unions that one would expect – Diane Ravitch, Jonathan Kozol, Students for a Democratic Society, the Freedom Socialist Party and the National Educational Association are just a few of the individuals and organizations lending their name to this circus. I will be reporting more on the event in the weeks to come.

With one regulatory decision after anther, Obama’s National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) has repeatedly abused its position and lent its powers to come to the material aid of Big Labor. This week we see the NLRB coming to the aid of unions yet again by changing rules to fast track union votes in businesses not yet suffering under union control.
The NLRB has ruled that unions trying to strong arm their way into businesses will now be afforded a sort of fast tracked voting process meant to give both businesses and employees far, far less time to learn about and understand the issues surrounding a vote in favor of unionization.
Currently when a union wants to get itself certified in a new company the NLRB takes between five and six weeks to conduct the elections. Under the NLRB’s new rules that time period will be shorted to a scant 10 to 21 days.

Barack Obama’s interference in the business operations of Boeing new Dreamliner manufacturing project will likely cause thousands of workers in South Carolina to lose their jobs. Because of this, one Palmetto State worker is suing the federal government for its part in his probable future job loss.
This is a story about Obama’s status as the top bought-and-paid-for union hack in the country and how he is attempting to use his powers to wield regulations as a tool to punish an American business for wanting to open a new manufacturing plant in South Carolina all because the president feels that a union will be hurt in the process of the creation of thousands of new jobs.
As it happens, airplane manufacturer Boeing wants to open a new manufacturing plant in South Carolina for its new Dreamliner plane because the manufacturer had been having so many union-caused troubles in its Washington State plant.

Obama and his Democrat pals have been lying to you, America. They do not want to find a cure for America’s obviously ailing healthcare system. They want to erect its headstone. Democrats want to destroy every aspect of our healthcare system. They have to, you see, because if they don’t they cannot rebuild it to operate under a socialist model. More proof of that was highlighted by Conn Carroll earlier in the week at the Washington Examiner.
Carroll rightly points out that Obamacare is purposefully designed to collapse Medicare and to run 25% of all hospitals out of business. Sure this will hurt — even kill — thousands of America’s most vulnerable citizens, but, heck, you have to break a few citizen eggs to create the ideal, socialist omelet, don’t you know?

The National Park Service (NPS) spent $90,825 in stimulus funds to upgrade Marion Park, a popular dog destination on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. The money went to repainting the existing fence, sidewalk repair, and purchasing new benches and trash cans for the park.

Here is the waste and fraud that your tax dollars are put to, America. Senator Tom Coburn has alerted the nation to a 30-year-old man in California named Stanley Thornton, Jr., who is paid by Social Security to lay about his house and pretend he is a baby replete with diapers, baby bottles for nourishment and a 300 pound “nurse” to take care of him.
No kidding. This guy pretends to be a baby and we, the people, send him Supplemental Security Income benefits to do it.
Of course, this California nut claims that he is mentally unable to cope with life and that his SSI benefits are needed because he is “disabled” by his mental state of thinking he is a baby. But Coburn thinks this guy is just scamming the government.
