So my youngest son Cody, who is a Senior at Moses Lake High School, is a budding Chef. He joined the afterschool Culinary Team through SkillsUSA last January, and right off the bat won an alternate spot in the Washington State competition. He has been winning ever since. (Take THAT Charlie Sheen.)
This past summer he helped set up and work at the new Chief Academy Cafe, an off-campus student-run cafe (the only one in the nation) where kids learn how to set up a business, deal with local codes and sanitation, order supplies, wait on customers, cook the food and try recipes, etc. It is a fantastic experience, especially for a young man who has chosen that career path. On top of that, the Cafe makes a tidy profit for the district. Yup, it’s a bastion of Free Enterprise at work. Other districts should take note!
The teacher, whom I’ll call Mr. F, runs the cafe and teaches the students what they need to know in the restaurant business and the best ways to cook and bake. Cody loved it so much he signed up for the Cafe for his second hour of class as preparation for his final year on the Culinary Team next semester. He’s even creating a dish with the help of Mr. F for his big Senior Project.
Union Members Take Hostages, Destroy Property: But Remember, Tea Party is ‘Dangerous’

After months of accusations that it is the Tea Party movement that is somehow “dangerous” to America, much of such rhetoric coming from union members and their supporters, we get union members of the Longshoremen storming the Port of Longview, Washington taking hostages, destroying property, and generally acting like lawless thugs.
Imagine what the news would have been if it were people identifying themselves as Tea Partiers that attacked a place, took hostages, and went on a protracted campaign of property destruction. There would have been congressional resolutions denouncing the Tea Party, there would be wall-to-wall coverage and ultimately multiple investigations from every corner.
Yet, since it was union members involved, we get a few passing reports in the media and we all move on to the debut of the new NFL season.

Barack Obama’s interference in the business operations of Boeing new Dreamliner manufacturing project will likely cause thousands of workers in South Carolina to lose their jobs. Because of this, one Palmetto State worker is suing the federal government for its part in his probable future job loss.
This is a story about Obama’s status as the top bought-and-paid-for union hack in the country and how he is attempting to use his powers to wield regulations as a tool to punish an American business for wanting to open a new manufacturing plant in South Carolina all because the president feels that a union will be hurt in the process of the creation of thousands of new jobs.
As it happens, airplane manufacturer Boeing wants to open a new manufacturing plant in South Carolina for its new Dreamliner plane because the manufacturer had been having so many union-caused troubles in its Washington State plant.

Weiner’s Weiner: Dem. Rep’s ‘Hacking’ Story Falls Apart

Over the last few days New York Congressman Anthony Weiner, a Democrat, claimed that his Twitter account had been hacked when it was revealed that “someone” sent a sexually graphic picture to a young woman in Washington State from his account.
The photo, a picture of a briefs-clad man sporting an erection, was sent to a young college student named Gennette Nicole Cordova who is a student at Whatcom Community College, Bellingham, Washington. This young woman once Tweeted that Wiener was her “boyfriend.” No one is sure what sort of relationship Weiner has with Cordova if any. But there seems to be some links.
For his part, Rep. Weiner claims his Twitter account was hacked. This does not ring true. Why would a hacker hack Weiner’s Twitter account to send only one photo to some girl in Washington State (who claimed to be his girlfriend) and then just leave without doing other things?

Hypocrisy: Obama’s Stock And Trade

Obama’s National Labor Relations Board made itself infamous not long ago by attempting to tell Boeing in what state it was allowed to build a new manufacturing plant. Indulging his penchant toward anti-business, anti-capitalist sentiment Obama decided that he was the final arbiter on where companies were allowed to move and set up shop. Boeing was evil, you see because they wanted to get out from under the business-destroying grip of unions.
The monsters at Boeing were “retaliating” against the unions said Obama and his NLRB. Boeing was moving its plant from Washington State to North Carolina because in NC the unions have less power. So, it’s the unionista in chief to the rescue of the jobs-killing unions. Boeing needs to be slapped down for it’s evilness, don’t you know?
But, here is where Obama’s ever present hypocrisy rears its ugly head once again.

Paradox: Green-Loving Washington State About to Penalize Electric Car Owners

Some people think that marriage is the most absurd institution ever invented by man. But those that think so are ignoring what is truly the most idiotic, paradoxically absurd practice in all of human history: government. Yeah, yeah, necessary evil and all, but still there is nothing that exemplifies human folly better than politics and Washington State has uncorked a doozie for us today.
From coast to coast and all over the world liberals are mindlessly going gaga for green. Anything that smacks of greenism is, with religious fervor, promoted and revered. The electric automobile, for instance, is one of the left’s dream modes of transportation. Pursuant to that dreamy green dream, liberals have made sure that all sort of tax breaks are lavished upon those citizens who dutifully jump up to their necks into the unprofitable and technologically untested world of electric cars. Washington State is no exception to this mania.
… and hilarity ensues.

The Associated Press is even a bit snarky about the whole mess.

Truth in Accounting Issues: Washington’s ‘Financial State of the State’ – True Tax Burden $31.7 Billion

From the Institute for Truth in Accounting…
Chicago (November 29, 2010) Today, the Institute for Truth in Accounting released Washington’s “Financial State of the State.” After an intensive review of the State’s 2010 audited financial report the Institute determined the State is in a precarious financial position because it does not have the funds available to pay $31.7 billion of the State’s commitments as they come due. Each taxpayer’s share of this financial burden equals $13,800.
Washington state law requires a balanced budget. “If governors and legislatures had truly balanced the state’s budget, no taxpayer’s financial burden would exist,” said Sheila Weinberg, founder and CEO of the Institute for Truth in Accounting (IFTA). She continued, “A state budget is not balanced if past costs, including those for employees’ retirement benefits, are pushed into the future.”

An illegal army. That’s what’s going on in the state named for the Father of our Nation. But what can you expect in a state where I actually coined the following bumper sticker after the 2004 Governor’s election: WASHINGTON—The Only State where winning 2 out of 3 vote counts means you lose!
I know you’ve all heard about it. Patty Murray, that liberal icon who supported Obama’s horrifying healthcare bill (in spite of how her state felt!), who demanded the people pay for her parenting class anyway in spite of no one wanting to take it, and who repeatedly elites, manipulates, and forces her will on a state that is getting fed up with her Islammunist ways, now has an army.
Not a legitimate institutionalized one, not even one made up of actual citizens of the state she wishes to represent. Nope, for she is above such things.
Washington State’s SEIU Bought Republican

On February 24, Moe Lane posted a short piece alerting one and all to the fact that one of the Republican candidates for Washington State’s 3rd Congressional District is a favorite of the hard-core lefties in the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) — one of Obama’s favorite Big Labors cohorts. Mr. Lane, though, was sure that Jaime Herrera “regrets that endorsement now.” Unfortunately, I am not so sanguine because Herrera has been far more compliant with Big Labor’s goals than is evident from what Lane might have thought was a mere wayward endorsement.
There is a reason, it appears, that the SEIU endorsed Herrera. As a Republican she seems to be far more one of them than one of us at least as far as Big Labor’s needs go!
Moe Lane cited the Clark County Politics blog on the SEIU’s endorsement, but if you don’t want to believe the CCPblog — admittedly a right leaning site — here is a Progressive Voters Guide for Washington and here is the Voters Guide for Equal Rights Washington, both left-wing groups that show SEIU support for Herrera. On top of that here is SEIU Local 1199 NW’s endorsement page which also announces its endorsement of Herrera.
But, let’s address that possible “regret” that Mr. Lane so casually extends to Ms Harrera. Could Lane be right, could it be that Herrera was just by happenstance on the receiving end of an SEIU endorsement and now wishes it never happened? Was it all just an unfortunate incident? I have to say that after looking up some of her votes over the last few years, I must conclude that Herrera was given the thumbs up by the SEIU for a reason. Jaime Herrera was quite a friend to Big Labor.
